I really really need a cheap Microbiology course online with lab HELP PLEASE !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:crying2:
I don't see how virtual labs are at all equivalent to an in-person lab.. Getting a full lab kit at home is a little different, if you're doing exactly what you would in person- but even micro I don't see how that is fully possible without the proper incubators and such to grow your cultures. I think for theroy online is just fine, but for science/lab courses, I think at the very least labs should be done in class.
Having said that, it's insane to me that there are waiting lists to take basic science courses-- we have tons of community colleges and there are always spots for general science/ed courses. You may not get the teacher/hours of your choice if you wait too long to register, but you can always get a spot in a class.

I realize this was posted months ago, but in reply, not only did I have a properly functioning incubator, but I had to build it myself. I grew all sorts of nasties and had a very thorough understanding of what it took to make them grow, because I had to build the darn thing myself.
was he class difficult? How were the test, quizzes and labs? Did you take the 8 week or 14 week class with *******? I have too little ones, trying to make sure I get in a class with a good teacher
I doubt you'll receive a receive a response as this is a nearly 4 year old thread many members involved are long gone from AN. Try ratemyprofessor?
I did take him. It was an 8 week sessions. Very intense and time consuming. I had labs every week that contained several steps to complete, sometimes I had to repeat the steps just to make sure I figured out the right pathogen, such as gram positive or negative, streptococcus, staphylococcus, etc., what type of infection the person had, that sort of thing but much more in depth. There was a huge amount of discussions every week. You have to post if I remember correctly 3 posts. One must be referenced, others are responses to your peers. There are quizzes I think at least 10 if I remember correctly. The class is doable just time consuming and sometimes frustrating during lab, but the software is excellent. You will never ever forget to flame the loop and test tube to prevent contamination. Relax, breath, don't get discouraged and you will do great. It came all the way down to the final for me. I was barely holding on to an A with a 91%. I aced the final !!!!

Paul D Camp CC in Virginia offers an online micro course. 4 credit hours. I learned a lot in the content area of the course. There is no lab kit to buy so I imagine I didn't learn as much doing virtual labs as other students in a real lab, but it was worth it.
