Hi there! I was just accepted into nursing school and will begin my clinical studies in August. I am in the market for the most comfortable pair of shoes that I can find. I have reflux in my lef leg and need support as well as comfort. Nurses, please help narrow my search and give me any advice on maintaining while working long shifts and constantly on my feet.

Whatever you do, don't get Nursemates. I thought I was buying some good shoes initially but then I had to buy new soles just so I could wear them. They're terribly uncomfortable and over-priced. I hear Dankso shoes are the best but don't buy them without trying them on. They're expensive! If you buy them new, they're around $125 but you might want to try http://www.danskooutlet.com/ where they're $75. The shoes that they sell in the "outlet" have little defects like scuffs. The sizing is a little wierd and they have some serious arch support which may or may not fall in the right place in relation to your foot. Good luck to you. I still haven't found a good shoe and I'm not in the market for Dansko's yet.

Hello,
I just found my perfect shoes from Rockport, they're called MOTIVATION 11. They're sooooo comfortable and it has an added support inside. I too have leg problems ( varicose veins on my ankle) and I can't walk and stand for a long period of time. I got them for $49.95 (on sale...used to be $85.00).

i hear that gators are great. but i still love my z-coils. I tell everyone about them, but for some reason people are skeptical. don't let the appearance fool you!

I agree. Z coil are the best. they are very expensive but it is the first time my feet haven't hurt. They are supposed to be excellent for back problems, knee problems, leg problems, etc. They are custom fitted and adjusted to fit. Some stores let you try them out for a week before you commit and the coils are replaceable. Give it a shot.

I like cherokee's Rockers. They have good arch support for myselft (I have a high arch) and lightweight however they don't have a lot of friction like sport sneakers and almost fell several times but I'm a klutz and probably would trip and eventually fall with reg sneaks. I have not fallen yet on my face but I don't know when i'm busy and flustered like it's been the last several months I've almost fallen face forward over 7 times or more the last week. I think my coworkers think i have a problem! I HATED nurse mates as well. I think the problem was mine had a little bit of a high heel and was a clog one. The high heel made me put more pressure on my thigh and knee just to walk in the darn things. The looked awesome but by the end of the shift my thighs were killing me and my arches b/c there was not much arch supports. The rocker i have is rosemary that's one of it's shoes it's called and there i believe are clogs but the one if have and look into has to be flat. Too bad I can't return my mrsa infested nurse mates

I have a pair of Croc's and Birkenstocks. I've also tried Dansko's, Nursemates, New Balance, Reebok....
By far and away the best for me are the Birkenstocks. The Croc's are very very comfortable but that comfort only lasts about 10 hours or so. The Birkenstocks keep me going for all 12.5 - 14.5 hours and I no longer have heel spur pain nor do my legs ache by the end of my shift.

I like the Birkenstocks. The are expensive but last forever. I have not been wearing the Birks consistently for the last month and now my feet and legs hurt. I also fell in the regular shoes. I have never slipped or fallen in the Birks. So, I am again a faithful Birkenstock wearer.

Birkenstocks work best for me. They look like old fashioned doll shoes, but they're the most comfortable for me. I'm very heavy and they're the only ones I've found that can get me through a 12 hour shift without pain.
