There's a petition on a website to have nurse Kaci Hickox's license revoked for refusing quarantine after working directly with Ebola patients in West africa.

Above study was done on Pigs with the lesser hemorrhagic strain.

Well I stand by that statement, I really believe it. We have always known there were, shall we say, weaker nurses among us, but to see that the ignorance permeates 50% of my profession makes me ashamed, for the first time in 30 years, to be a nurse.

It has also occurred to me that all of these people are undoubtedly getting their flu shot, and will be among the very first to get their Ebola vaccine as well.

Why aren't the troops complaining? What makes her so special that she feels like she can do whatever she pleases after leaving a hot zone, and our troops are doing it in a Luke warm zone.

The troops aren't complaining because the troops don't get to complain -- they follow orders and don't have any choice. She does.

Not to mention they are spending 30 days on their base in Italy, which was always the plan. It isn't some new or noble effort to protect the public, lol. It is a straw man argument anyway, and has no bearing on what is required of or recommended for, civilians.

It's not the COBs who are advocating for Kaci to be quarantined. A lot of those posts are being made by nurses with less experience. We were the ones who were out there on the floors when AIDS hysteria was at its peak, so we've learned from history.

And so the fearful extrapolate that into something entirely different which means that we should quarantine asymptomatic people while the fearful IGNORE the VERY EFFECTIVE protocols for preventing transmission that have been tried, tested, and proven over and over again.

It's not the COBs who are advocating for Kaci to be quarantined. A lot of those posts are being made by nurses with less experience. We were the ones who were out there on the floors when AIDS hysteria was at its peak, so we've learned from history.

I was being silly and not at all commenting on the subject of the thread, I promise! The quote was reminiscent of the occasional "why won't the old people retire so new nurses can get a job?????" threads.

Proof of what exactly?

Proof that it has never been documented to be transmitted by asymptomatic people or that there are no known cases of airborne transmission (of this strain) to humans or that people isolated for days in the same small apartment as linens and objects heavily soiled with body fluids which were ripe with virus didn't just contract the disease in TX?

Are you seriously saying that in all of your research you have not run across the information (which represents the bulk of the literature) which allays the fears that you are promoting?

You may be as fearful of this virus in America as you choose to be. It is NOT required, however, as we have been demonstrating for quite some time that health professionals returning from their work with ebola patients represent no risk to their families or to the general population.

If you're going to argue a point, all I ask is for evidence to support your claim. It's simple. I truly believe that she is not infectious while asymptomatic. I have never argued against that THEORY. My stance has always been, why risk being out and about and subsequently developing symptoms, at which point you will become infectious. Then it will become a situation of let's find all your contacts, scare them half to death, decontaminate everything you touched, spend more taxpayers dollars to monitor the contacts of your contacts WHEN YOU CAN JUST STAY AT HOME FOR 3 DAG NABBIT WEEKS.

It's amazing that the CDC recommends HOME monitoring of contacts for smallpox (something we have a vaccination for), but everyone is getting up in arms about Ebola.

Don't get me wrong, there a couple of instances that I've heard were people were behaving very irrationally. As was in the case of the Nigerian girl told to remain home from school and the two brothers that were picked on in school. Nigeria has been considered Ebola free for over a month now, so I don't see the school's reasoning for making her stay home. The parent also stated that they would get tested, but the school refused that too. That, IMO, is irrational and overkill. And with the brothers who were picked on, I never condone violence so I find those children involved appalling. However, Kaci has been in DIRECT contact with patients who are at their most infectious. I have also heard from sources that her roommate had contracted the virus. She, IMO, should be monitored at HOME with restrictions just as the CDC (of whom she works for) suggests for these level 3 and 4 infectious diseases. What is so difficult about that. She is no hero to me, I'm sorry. If you want to fight a cause, fight one that actually BENEFITS others aside from yourself.
