Ok folks, time has come to Start anew.......over 1000 posts means LOTS of bandwidth use here at allnurses.com. So I have been asked to remedy the situation.....
Anyhow, I have enjoyed so much your sharing, help and support here on the Healthier Living Thread....let's keep it up!!!!!:)
QOD: What is your favorite "old" or "new" healthy food/recipe? Care to share?
I have "rediscovered" oatmeal. Yep old fashioned good ole Quaker Oats-----the slow cooked kind.....with raisins, a bit of cinnamon and some Splenda.....YUMMY. Eating this as my dh's cholesterol and lipid counts were very high---trying to clean up my own dietary practices to help him with his....anyhow.....
Anyone else? As you change/grow/develop new tastes, what are your "old" or "new" healthier-choice favorites??? Care to share????
S&T, I would definately try the diet and exercise for a while. But if there's no improvement maybe a visit to the doc for some bloodwork, thyroid check, anema, blood glucose, etc. all those things that can cause fatigue should be checked out. Good luck. Please keep in touch.
I was on my way to the gym and my neighbor stopped me to say the girl dog has an escape route and almost got ran over the other day. I found it and went to home depot to put up some fencing to keep her inside, so I skipped the gym because there's only so many hours in the day.
I'm having a salad, green beans, and vegetarian tacos for supper tonight.
I'm making lots of changes in my life, so I need to change my eating and exercise habits too! I know I've talked about this a few times before too and I ended up doing nothing about it
A lot has happened though and I feel a lot more relieved .... maybe now I will have the motivation to go do something. I think I'm going to go join Curves. There is one just a couple of blocks from my house ..... I think I'll go do that this week. I HAVE to do this for myself!!
Tweety - glad your girl dog wasn't injured in anyway when she escaped. It's good that you patched up the area where she was escaping. I know you wouldn't want to come home and find her injured or worse. One of my dd's neighbors has a lab almost two years old. He gets loose all the time. He digs himself out of their fenced yard into our yard. I've kept the dog for a full day TWICE already until the owners get home. He is always lost, but people in this neighborhood are very pet friendly. They will keep him, post a message on the neighborhood website, and that's how the neighbors get their dog back. I read lots of "lost dog" ads on that site. Pets and children...so much alike, right?
Rain - glad to have you join us here at "Healthier Living"! Positive support is a blessing! You'll get lots of that here. What shift will you be working on your new job?
I'm not up to anything special. Had a few days alone to think in solitude this weekend which I truly needed.
arciedee, I just saw you and you man's pic in your gallery. You look fabulous. (The man is handsome and has a nice smile too.). There doesn't look to be much more weight to loose. Kudos!
Heya Tweety, thanks! I look kinda funny in that picture... I'm not very good at having pictures taken so I tend to not look totally... myself! But hey, beggars can't be choosers. That's the only picture of the two of us I have! I was tempted to get engagement pictures done for that reason alone! But I'm too cheap. No, not much weight to lose. I am in a perfectly reasonable range for my height. But I had put on some weight since the summer and I wanted to get it under control... thinking not just about the wedding dress, but creating healthy habits for the future.
So, good news, I'm down a couple more pounds. My clothes aren't feeling quite as snug as before. I did get in a workout yesterday, but mostly it's just been smaller portions and conscious eating (i.e. thinking "do I really want this or am I eating it because A) the clock says 'time to eat' or B) it's in front of me so I'm eating it because it's there). I'm not an emotional eater so much as an "I'm bored" eater.
s and t, so glad you joined us!
And rain, glad to see you back, too! Sounds like things are looking up for you.
Hi everybody! I'm so sorry I have been MIA - but life has been chaotic! My baby girl contracted both RSV and influenza A at the same time and I missed a lot of work and e-mails as well. I am trying to catch up on everything since I have not been online since around the 1st (except to do homework). Anyway, I couldn't even begin to go back through and read all the posts, so I am sorry. On top of that, A&P II and Micro. are keeping me very busy, so I barely have time to breathe right now.
To everybody who is doing well with the healthy living: congrats & keep up the good work. To those who are struggling: keep a positive attitude and keep after it, you can do it!
I will try to be back a little more regular now. Hope everybody is doing wonderfully - take care!
Sarah, so good to see you back here. I was just going to post today to see if anyone had heard from you. So sorry about your little girl, though sounds like she's doing better now? Also, not to pry, but how did your biopsy go? Good luck with getting caught up on everything. Micro is sucking my precious Saturdays...
Hey everyone!
Nothing interesting in my life. School is kicking my behind........lol
Proud to anounce I made a 100 in my last lab practical and have been able to bump my grade to an A thus far in microbiology. I am sooooooooo thankful to the man up above for being good to me and allowing me to not give up.
Made a 100 on my nutrition.........and nursing lecture is just okay. Clinicals are interesting too.
I am still eating my healthy foods and waiting for the snow to melt, the Spring to arrive so that I can actually go out for nice long walks!
Back to my books,
Jess
Hi Tweety, SandT, Rain, Deb, Sarah, Arcie, and Jessica!
Sounds like everyone is on target today!
Congrats Jessica on acing those test! Stay encouraged now! :icon_hug:
Sarah - welcome back. I'm so sorry your little one has been so ill. Poor baby. How is she doing now?
Early this morning, dd, neighbor, and I went for an HOUR walk! I'm so proud of myself for doing that! Normally, I only walk for thirty minutes. This was my first hour in weeks.
Well...BBL. Have a great day everyone! :icon_hug:

Hi Tweety, I'm glad you made that suggestion, and I did exactly that last week. Just returned from my drs. office, everything has come back normal, all bloodwork, xrays, ultrasounds, been tested 9 ways to Sunday, and its all normal! So on to plan B....diet and exercise!
Over the last couple of days have made a concerted effort to watch what I eat, take vits, cut down on coffee and diet coke consumption, but I didn't realize how difficult it is to change everything all at once. So rather that try to make multiple changes, I am going to start with diet, and then progress from there.....wish me luck!

well, there's deb's suggestion "healthy and strong" --- "handt"?
or, one of my favorite sayings is "2blst2bstrsd" [stands for too blessed to be stressed]?
