Healthier Living Support Thread: PART TWO!

Published

Ok folks, time has come to Start anew.......over 1000 posts means LOTS of bandwidth use here at allnurses.com. So I have been asked to remedy the situation.....

Anyhow, I have enjoyed so much your sharing, help and support here on the Healthier Living Thread....let's keep it up!!!!!:)

QOD: What is your favorite "old" or "new" healthy food/recipe? Care to share?

I have "rediscovered" oatmeal. Yep old fashioned good ole Quaker Oats-----the slow cooked kind.....with raisins, a bit of cinnamon and some Splenda.....YUMMY. Eating this as my dh's cholesterol and lipid counts were very high---trying to clean up my own dietary practices to help him with his....anyhow.....

Anyone else? As you change/grow/develop new tastes, what are your "old" or "new" healthier-choice favorites??? Care to share????

hi tweety - you're welcome (for the brkfst)! :clown:

i remember seeing parts of dr. phil's show with the thousand pound man, and my heart went out to him. i sure hope he will be able to lose the necessary weight, and bring his health up to par before he loses his life to ill-health. :(

i am concerned about my dgs and him weighing 105 lbs. :( his eating habits are just awful. i've already spoken to dd about his health. she gets defensive about just buying healthy foods and cutting down the amount of junk this child consumes, so once again...........all this mom and gramma can do is pray and let god handle it. when i cook or offer him food, i suggest healthy snacks. at least he is going to learn what is healthy and what is not while i am here without putting pressure on him. he has a little friend who is eight years old that tells him what is unhealthy to eat in the kitchen. :chuckle god love him. i just pray this child will influence dgs in that respect. the little boy does eat candy, and is allowed a soda on a "non school night" if he wants one, but for the most part his parents teach him the importance of healthy foods in his diet. so perhaps the two of us together will leave a "healthy" impression on dgs.

heck, it's already lunch time and i just finished cleaning up the kitchen from breakfast dishes. :uhoh3: sorry...not going to eat lunch for awhile yet, but i don't mind feeding my friends here, so enjoy the lunch prepared for you. :clown:

Hi everyone...

Angie, you are doing so well! You know, I think that understanding our emotions and our triggers gives us greater power over them. I wish you much continued success!

Renee, so sorry to hear about your grandson. I can only imagine how difficult it must be for you to see him at that size. I have a feeling that there are deeper reasons for allowing him to eat that way, especially considering that she tries to keep fit herself. Keep talking to her, sweetie. Try not to be judgemental of her choices, but try to get her to open up about her feelings. It seems like she has a lot going on and a lot to straighten out right now. She's very lucky to have a mom like you to support her. Keep your chin up.

Hi Tweety, I hope all is going well with you!

Not much new here... I am down two pounds, so that's good news. I've been eating fairly light meals lately. Just haven't been as hungry for one thing. And the healthier foods have been appealing to me. Two nights ago we had sushi (I stuck to the veggie rolls) and strawberries for dinner, last night it was popcorn and smoothies. Hoping to keep it up!

Hi Arcie! Thanks for that great advice. It encourages me, and I will take it to heart. :icon_hug:

DD has been through a lot in her young life. It saddens me when I think about it all. :( The good thing is she knows how very much I love her, and likewise. I know she is going to be okay, and that dgs will be okay, too. As long as I'm alive, I will always let my children and grandchildren know how much I love them, and that I am here for them.

arciedee, I just saw you and you man's pic in your gallery. You look fabulous. (The man is handsome and has a nice smile too.). There doesn't look to be much more weight to loose. Kudos!

hi deb...just caught your post. it's half past midnight here, and i'm on my way to bed. tired with a capital "t" i am.

went to church tonight, then stayed afterwards for singles group. had a great time as always. learned about giving up control, and dumping those who try to control me. :clown: that was a sermon fit for me ears. so...gotta let go of dd to let her learn how to cope with life as it hits her. i'll always remain the praying mom that i am, and lean on god even more for his guidance and direction in my life, and with the lives of my daughters. it's hard...really hard to let go of our children...even after they are grown up in body, yet still seem like "children" who still need mothering. :scrying: :scrying:

other than that....i know i'm going to be back on my feet and giving back to the community as i love doing in god's perfect timing! patience takes "patience" to master. :rotfl:

Hello everyone, I've been lurking on this thread for a while, but its time I finally did something to get myself a little healthier. I need to get cracking...so, if you don't mind, I'd like to go from lurker to poster cause I have a feeling I'm going to need a little support! I need to start a healthy eating and exercise program, and I'm hoping to start today, so I will be checking in regularly.

S&T, welcome and best of luck! When you have time, let us know your goals and what you're going to do.

I ate a bunch of girl scout cookie. Too many. But I've been so good lately I feel entitled. :)

Thanks, guys. I have to do something. I AM always tired even though it seems I am getting adequate sleep. But my dietary habits leave a lot to be desired and I get zero excercise. I am the proverbial mouse potato, and sometimes couch potato.

Since I changed to a day job last summer, I thought I would feel better, but truly I am feeling worse. My dh has been nagging me to start some kind of excercise program, I always pooh-poohed him, but I'm beginning to think he is right.

So, I am going to try to eat healthier. I was quite heavy when I was younger, but lost it and my weight has been fairly stable over the years. Then dh and dd started the Southbeach diet right after New Years, and wouldn't you know it, I gained weight!

So, I am done with all that protein (not a big meat eater) but bread and pasta is my downfall. Today I took vitamins (my body nearly went into shock), ate a 'good' breakfast and lunch, and will try and get a walk in this afternoon! For sure I need to take off this nearly 10 lbs I gained, so I will keep you posted.

welcome to the "healthy living support thread" sandt! i like the name deb would like to see you have -- "healthy and strong" -- instead of "sick and tired".:coollook:

my pastor says what we speak is what we become, so perhaps you should ask the mods to change your name to a more positive title for you to begin speaking aloud.........that way, before you know it...wahlah! you are "healthy and strong". :clown: we're here to support you. don't focus on the pounds, but on becoming healthy. i avoid the scale at all cost. it is depressing to stand on a metal scale just to have it flash numbers at me that i don't like. :chuckle instead, when i look into the mirror and am not happy with what my eyes behold, that alone makes me wanna puke and get healthy. :chuckle so...........what say you? new name for yourself? we are here to encourage you to see yourself in a better light. and i promise to feed you real "heth-ee" food, too -- starting now.:nurse:

one of my all time favorite meals is 23247383.jpg salmon and tossed salad

another favorite of mine - 23038080.jpg

i don't do much red meat, but when i do - 23037642.jpg

steak salad for redmeat lovers - 23035930.jpg

lemonade to wash it all down with - 23045215.jpg

Looks delicious, Cheer! I agree I do need a new name, but the only one that comes to mind right now is "really exhausted"! But I am certainly open to any suggestions you have! Maybe a positive sounding name will get me feeling better too!
