Healthier Living Support Thread: PART TWO!

Nurses Stress 101

Published

Ok folks, time has come to Start anew.......over 1000 posts means LOTS of bandwidth use here at allnurses.com. So I have been asked to remedy the situation.....

Anyhow, I have enjoyed so much your sharing, help and support here on the Healthier Living Thread....let's keep it up!!!!!:)

QOD: What is your favorite "old" or "new" healthy food/recipe? Care to share?

I have "rediscovered" oatmeal. Yep old fashioned good ole Quaker Oats-----the slow cooked kind.....with raisins, a bit of cinnamon and some Splenda.....YUMMY. Eating this as my dh's cholesterol and lipid counts were very high---trying to clean up my own dietary practices to help him with his....anyhow.....

Anyone else? As you change/grow/develop new tastes, what are your "old" or "new" healthier-choice favorites??? Care to share????

I was trying to put this image in my sig, but didn't work. I doubt pics are allowed.

The breadsticks and alfredo dipping sauce :uhoh3: Hard to resist and my #2 son ALWAYS orders that.

There are low fat options and they are actually good. Just order that big salad bowl and stay away from cream sauces and breadsticks.

Yeah, avoid them while everybody else is eating them. *sigh* Ah well, I'll do my best with it and see what happens on weigh in tomorrow.

I like those ticker thingies.

I think as far as weight goals, I'm going to shoot for 10% of my weight off at a time. I have about 45-50 lbs to lose altogether. Sheesh, how did that happen?

Well guys, I was checking my BMI at http://www.consumer.gov/weightloss/bmi.htm and was very happy to find that I have gone down two categories from being in the upper "obese" (right before extremely obese) category down to one point under the "overweight" category - WooHoo!!! Nice to look at it that way. So I guess my next goal will be 33 lbs, which would put me at the high-end (but at least in) the normal range. :) Ok, now I feel better. ;)

Thanks Jess! And to you as well. ;) You have done so incredible, I only hope that I can do as well and keep with it!!! Is your class going any better yet? What are you guys having to do in this class? I am so curious. :D

I have that class Wednesday, praying it will be better. I had lab Saturday and she seemed a bit different. We are preparing bacteria cultures and slides. :)

You?

By the way, after having lost 50lbs (like you).......I noticed a tremendous change. I even looked younger and started wearing make-up again......lol

Focus on the positive you will do fine.

I feel like such a loser at times because it was much easier to lose all that weight before than it is to lose the last 19 I want. Dh isn't too happy about my diet. He says to lose no more than 10 or else.....hehe

Grats! Two categories down. That's great. :)

Kat - I never said I was able to always avoid those darn breadsticks and sauce. :sofahider

:rotfl:Cut yourself some slack. One lunchtime meal isn't going to make or break you.

Kat and Jess - thanks for the encouragement.

Steph - you are right about the one meal thing, every once in a while, we have to splurge on ourselves. ;)

Jess - I am like you, those 50 lbs. really weren't that hard to lose. I didn't feel like I was really depriving myself or working hard to get rid of them, but now it is getting harder. I can sympathize with your feelings because that's where I'm at too. You have done so well though, you will be able to lose those last stubborn pounds in no time! ;)

My classes don't start until the 23rd, so I have one week of R&R left. I have to go take the NET on Wednesday though and I am a completely, manical mess right now! Plus, going to get that spot on my leg looked at right before that test, I am going to be a blubbering idiot until those are both over with and off my mind! I am really worried about not passing that test, I hope I can pull it off. That and totally freaked out about what my Dr. will say about that stupid spot.

I am bummed today, so forgive me for hogging this thread, but I am really needing it today. I feel depressed, which is not like me, but I think I could easily go off in a corner and sob for the whole day. Thanks to all of you who understand. :)

WAY TO GO Sarah!!

Hello everyone. Seems we have a really lively board going on here. GREAT!

(((((((sarah))))))) go to a corner, curl up in a warm blanket, sob your eyes out for one minute (set the timer), then get up and move forward with your life. :kiss

[color=#483d8b]i've had to learn the hard way to not spend much time moping, crying, and dwelling on things that i can't change in and of my own power. so...call spilt milk what it is, dry it up, and begin again. everytime you get knocked down, get up and begin anew...forgetting the painful times, but n[color=#483d8b]ot forgetting the lessons learned from those painful times. :flowersfo:icon_hug:

stevielyn...i luv olive garden, too! i like their lasagna and salads the best. haven't eaten at an olive garden in quite some time now though. no money to eat out right now. that alone helps me to drop the pounds. :rotfl:

jess...perhaps that instructor was nervous about something else that had nothing to do with the students. time will tell. you just keep being you. :icon_hug:

kat...i want to lose at least 70 pounds myself. i don't weigh myself though. it's bad enough going to the doctor every two months and getting weighed by those skinny healthcare techs on staff. :lol2: i like to go by how i look in the mirror (from head to toe in my birthday suit). that alone skeers the heck out of me, and is my strongest encourager to lose weight. :rotfl:

ate cheerios for breakfast. pb&j on whole wheat bread with applesauce for lunch. plan to fix sphaghetti for dinner again due to lack of choices in the kitchen cupboards right now. :uhoh3:

talked to dd#3 re: rice diet. she will email me the food choices sometime today. as soon as i get them, i will post them here for you all to see. patience children! :rotfl:

Sarah you are strong. Despite your difficulties, you always prevail. That is why I say "way to go"

Thanks Renee & Deb, I do feel better now. Think maybe after the kiddos go to bed tonight, I will do a little crying just to get it out of my system. I really do feel better though - don't know what I ever did before this thread came along, you all are so supportive - thanks!!! :)

Renee - our cupboards were looking like old mother hubbards the other day too. I couldn't take it any more and broke down and got some groceries on the credit card - I HATE to do that, but sometimes you just have to. My hubby sure was happy. :D

The support you're giving each other is wonderful.

Guess my post was invisible.

But that's o.k. I don't need your support to validate anything. I lost four pounds this week and ignore me if you will. humph....
