Ok folks, time has come to Start anew.......over 1000 posts means LOTS of bandwidth use here at allnurses.com. So I have been asked to remedy the situation.....
Anyhow, I have enjoyed so much your sharing, help and support here on the Healthier Living Thread....let's keep it up!!!!!:)
QOD: What is your favorite "old" or "new" healthy food/recipe? Care to share?
I have "rediscovered" oatmeal. Yep old fashioned good ole Quaker Oats-----the slow cooked kind.....with raisins, a bit of cinnamon and some Splenda.....YUMMY. Eating this as my dh's cholesterol and lipid counts were very high---trying to clean up my own dietary practices to help him with his....anyhow.....
Anyone else? As you change/grow/develop new tastes, what are your "old" or "new" healthier-choice favorites??? Care to share????
I feel great now and didn't take any motrin. Both times the backache occurred upon waking up. I took a nap this afternoon. Maybe it's my bed, pillow or the fact I have to accommodate two Italian Greyhounds who insist on snuggling close causing me to contort to strange positions to accommodate them. :)If it keeps up Jess, I'll look for a mattress topper. :)
How old is your mattress? I've been waking up with backaches lately, and I'm wondering if it's that. Nothing else has changed, but the mattress is getting up there, though it doesn't sag. Maybe I need to turn and flip it.
Had my morning bowl of oatmeal. I made it a bit too thick though. Still eating pretty well since I've been on WW, but yesterday I fell off the wagon and ate a whole lot of pretzels and tortilla chips. Not sure why. I haven't deprived myself of anything.
Going to Olive Garden tonight which should be a real challenge. Weigh in is tomorrow at noon, so we'll see if this has been doing any good.
Oh yeah. Doing yoga is kind of hard when your cat thinks you're playing with him.
Kat - LOL about the yoga/cat thing. I have that problem with my dogs. My chihuahua always thinks that the second I get down on the floor to do sit-ups or something would be a good time to come curl up on my stomache. My great dane simply thinks that I'm getting down there so that she has somebody to roughouse with. Hmm - maybe that's part of why I procrastinate so much when it comes to exercising - LOL!
Kat the mattress is only about five years old, but it may need to be turned. I know what you mean about the cats, my dogs get in my face when I do yoga or meditate. Oh well, I've heard petting your dog is good for the bp.
Jess good luck with the diet. What took you so long to start? I though you were starting with me? LOL j/k you'll do great.
Today was weigh in day and I'm down 4 more pounds!!!! I was shocked it was so much as I was aiming for 2. That's 11 pounds in three weeks! I'm finally feeling trim and not like the Pillsbury Doughboy. I'm one pound from my original goal, which unfortunately was set too high and I'm going to revise it five pounds lower, but am rejoicing I'm nearly at my first goal. Woot!

Oh Tweety believe me when I say you will be sleeping on a cloud and looking forward to betime :)
Good morning everyone!Tweety - sorry to hear about the bachaches, that is miserable.
Hopefully something works - that memory foam that Jess mentioned is wonderful stuff, definitely worth a try!
Cheerful - sorry, I was definitely not being healthy this weekend - oops. Oh well, I've decided that I'm going to let myself splurge on the weekends and be really good during the week because I was starting to feel deprived, hopefully that will help with that. I did go riding on Saturday - it was wonderful! My hubby wouldn't let me ride bareback yet - he said, "You are uncoordinated enough with a saddle - I don't need to be taking you to the ER because you fell off your horse." LOL - he is right - LOL! Oh well, I will get in some more "saddle" practice before I attempt bareback.
Jess - I seem to be procrastinating with the healthy eating too at the moment, so maybe we can both get back on track now that the weekend is over.
I am really nervous - I found a weird spot on my leg, so I'm going to call my Dr. this morning and see if I can get an appointment. I think I have been studying too much and am becoming a hypochondriac because I would swear it has all of the characteristics of skin cancer (somebody please tell me I am wrong) - of course, it doesn't help that it runs in my family. It has grown, changed from a purpley-reddish color to pitch black, has a jagged boarder, and the skin around it is red as though it's infected, but it's not a scratch, it was a mole.
It's in a weird spot that I don't normally see, so I haven't paid much attention to it until I noticed it the other night (the joy of weight loss - I found a spot on my body I couldn't see before - LOL!). Anyway - freaked out about that one. Perhaps I should stay away from the books for a while, huh?
Ok, enough ramblings from me now, have a good day everybody!
Sarah, sounds good to me. I started today and will be recording my progress........and update you of course. :)

LOL Tweety! I was gathering up some motivation
I DID start it but lasted one day because I got sick with the flu remember? So basically I wasn't eating, then when the hunger hit me I over ate.....
Anyhow, will try Renees Rice diet for a couple days and then doing what I did before to lose my weight. The thing is that I can't seem to crave or want salads this time of year when it's subzero temperature outside.
Awesome Jess - that is so cool! I really don't know how much more I need to lose, I just am going by how I feel and clothing size. My first goal was 50 lbs. and I am slowly inching towards that. Had been at 45 for quite a while, but have lost a couple more - think by this weekend, I will be able to maintain at 50 rather than bouncing up and down. Yeay!!! Another 50 would thrill me to pieces, but I will be happy with smaller goals of 20 or 25 at a time until I reach a good weight.
Well - I got an appointment set with my Dr. for Wed. morning, so hopefully I can quit worrying between now and then . . . otherwise I will be a basket case.

.
The breadsticks and alfredo dipping sauce Hard to resist and my #2 son ALWAYS orders that.
There are low fat options and they are actually good. Just order that big salad bowl and stay away from cream sauces and breadsticks.

That is the way to do it. When I was 275 lbs and decided to change my eating habits......I made a mini goal of 10 lbs. When I reached that goal I kept setting more. Time flew by and before I knew it I had lost 140 lbs. The biggest challenge is to keep it off. I have kept it off for over 2 years now and am so happy. I only gained about 15 lbs and I truly believe it had to do with getting married, cooking 2 meals a day everyday and the birth control pill. I decided to stop it and I have noticed I lost a few lbs and am much better. I don't feel bloated like I did on it.
Good luck to you!
