Healthier Living Support Thread: PART TWO!

Published

Ok folks, time has come to Start anew.......over 1000 posts means LOTS of bandwidth use here at allnurses.com. So I have been asked to remedy the situation.....

Anyhow, I have enjoyed so much your sharing, help and support here on the Healthier Living Thread....let's keep it up!!!!!:)

QOD: What is your favorite "old" or "new" healthy food/recipe? Care to share?

I have "rediscovered" oatmeal. Yep old fashioned good ole Quaker Oats-----the slow cooked kind.....with raisins, a bit of cinnamon and some Splenda.....YUMMY. Eating this as my dh's cholesterol and lipid counts were very high---trying to clean up my own dietary practices to help him with his....anyhow.....

Anyone else? As you change/grow/develop new tastes, what are your "old" or "new" healthier-choice favorites??? Care to share????

Hello healthier living buds! Scale has crept up a bit in the past few days :angryfire But on the up side, I did get another workout in yesterday, and I have to say that it felt good... This technique includes lots of stretching DURING the exercises, so I was able to calm the aching muscles a bit. An hour or two after I was done I wanted to do more! So that's a good sign. Another good thing... FH is cancelling his gym membership for one cheaper and closer to our place, so when he joins up there I'll probably join, too. Not big on gyms, but would be nice to have a treadmill for this time of year when I can't get out to walk as much.

Sarah, my class is a traditional one, not online. Sounds like you'll have a lot on your plate between A&P II and micro! But I found A&P II to be more interesting than A&P I, so I think you'll enjoy it. I look forward to sharing our experiences!

Lori, great job on balancing school and healthy living! You're off to a good start!

Angie, how's the biking going? Glad the portion control is working for you. I try to avoid "diets" per se, and rather indulge when I really want something, just try to enjoy a smaller amount! Not sure what to say about the emotional eating... my problem is usually eating because I'm bored. But it sounds like some others here have good advice and strategies. Keep us posted, sounds like you're doing a great job!

Hi Marylou and Tweety!

Cheer, stretching is VERY important. Of course, don't overdo it, as you've probably learned the hard way. But stretching will keep you limber and protect you from injury. Perhaps you can get a good DVD or video to guide your stretch workout. Yoga can help, too. Great job!

Jess, sorry you're not enjoying micro. Will let you know how it goes with mine. You, Sarah, and I can all try to keep each other sane :)

Thanks for your kind words,

I am in the nursing program already, but I can't fail this class. Monday is a holiday so will use my time wisely to study and study. :)

Jess - you're such a smart person - just look at how far you've come already. I'm sure you won't fail. What is the class you are taking - what's it like? I know if you give it your best, you'll succeed. Don't panic and remember, you made it through all the pre-reqs with flying colors - I'm sure this is far more of a challenging, but YOU CAN DO IT!!! I have complete faith in you!!! :)

Thanks arciedee, I expect a challenge with Micro and A&P II, but I LOVE the sciences, so I think I will actually enjoy it - even if I go a little nutty in-between. :rotfl: I agree, we all need to be a support system for each other, that will help a lot!

Good morning everybody!!!

HI everyone. Been off a bit due to the stomach bug thing......Hope all is well. Going to go catch up on you now....

JESS don't sweat, you will pass!!!

Deb - sorry to hear about that bug, those are miserable! Both my munchkins are sick - one getting over it and the other right about midway through it - I'm sure I'm next, but I feel so bad for them. Hope you recouperate well!

I used to have a handful of workout tapes, but gave them away recently because I was bored with the routines on them. I joined a Yoga class in 1997 out in California that I thought I'd come to master. My problem is "lack of coordination". The Yoga Instructor would just fix her eyes on me a LOT probably wondering how I got to be so uncoordinated. :lol2: I can trip over AIR if it were possible. :rotfl: Coordination is definitely NOT one of my greatest assets. :uhoh3:

I love the stretching part though. I stretch standing, then sitting or lying on the floor. It feels sooooo good to stretch. :D

Breakfast was three frozen waffles. Getting ready to eat lunch -- leftovers from yesterday's dinner -- chicken fettuchini and some left over broccoli. Then, I'll wait thirty minutes before doing the treadmill.

I'm also going to take an hour to read Joel Osteen's book that I've had long enough to have read ten times. It's called "Your Best Life Now". Has anyone ever read that book? It's wayyyyyyy past time for me to delve into it, so....what better time than today. :D

Hope everyone's day is going great so far! Deb, glad to see you are feeling somewhat better today. Jess and other micro students....take it slow, don't overthink the subject matter, and don't let sourpuss instructors keep you from attaining your goal of becoming the best nurse you know that you can be. We believe in you, so chins up! :kiss

Sarah....prayers said for the munchkins to get through that ol' bug quickly, and return to their active happy selves again. :kiss

Thanks Cheerful - my kids are pretty resiliant, but I still feel bad for them when they are sick. :( I always wish I could take it for them.

Enjoy the book - I love to read - brain candy is a wonderful thing!!! :)

WHAAAA? No posting in FIVE HOURS??? Where is everyone today? Yoo hoo...where are youuuuuu??? :uhoh21: This would NOT be happening if our dear sweet Jnette were here. :nono: Noooooo buddy...she would NOT stand for this at all! :rotfl: Now GIT in here fer I write ya'll up for lack of interests or something. :D

Nuttin' happening in my neck of the woods. Waiting on the pizza to be delivered. It's Friday, and dd says on Fridays we eat pizza, so pizza it is....like it or not....and that's that...so what choice do I have but to eat pizza. :rotfl:

Read the first chapter of Joel Osteen's book "Your Best Life Now" and LOVED IT! I feel newly motivated, energized, and ready to make true my dreams!

Renee, enjoy the pizza.

Jess, good luck with Micro. Sorry that you're not enjoying it.

Arciedee, you might find you like the gym. John got me a gym membership and I've been going for a long time now, I used to hate it. The trick for me is to bring music, so I'm not too bored.

Deb, hope you're feeling better.

Sarah, sorry to hear the munckins are sick.

I am dead dog tired from work, and just had a sandwich, using low fat meet and cheese and whole wheat bread. Not in the mood to cook.

Hmmm, low fat meet. Yum. :D

Well, I was bad today - we had a going away party for a nurse and we had pizza (I had one piece of veggie), layered bean dip (I had 3 helpings), and chocolate cheesecake (I had one slice).

Not eating dinner. Well, except I had a bit of trail mix . .you know, fiber. :D

I'm off tomorrow - gonna try to get in a workout.

Jess - sorry about Micro - I loved it and had a hard but great teacher. Why do teachers behave so badly sometimes? Why bring people down instead of helping them UP?

Nighty night all! Time for me shower, then going to crawl into my comfy warm bed and read some more of Joel Osteen's book before I fall asleep. Have a great night all! :) :kiss

Hope you all had a lovely night's rest. I am off to school today. I made a huge pot of pozole (mexican hominy stew) for dh to take to work today and share with co-workers.

Have a wonderful day everyone!
