Healthier Living Support Thread: PART TWO!

Nurses Stress 101

Published

Ok folks, time has come to Start anew.......over 1000 posts means LOTS of bandwidth use here at allnurses.com. So I have been asked to remedy the situation.....

Anyhow, I have enjoyed so much your sharing, help and support here on the Healthier Living Thread....let's keep it up!!!!!:)

QOD: What is your favorite "old" or "new" healthy food/recipe? Care to share?

I have "rediscovered" oatmeal. Yep old fashioned good ole Quaker Oats-----the slow cooked kind.....with raisins, a bit of cinnamon and some Splenda.....YUMMY. Eating this as my dh's cholesterol and lipid counts were very high---trying to clean up my own dietary practices to help him with his....anyhow.....

Anyone else? As you change/grow/develop new tastes, what are your "old" or "new" healthier-choice favorites??? Care to share????

I've been really good over the holidays so far but right now I'm eating pizza and loving every bite! I still need to go out and get a few more gifts. This week is supposed to be slow for agency but I have worked every day since Saturday. No one is talking me into working tonight! I am so done....last night I had a 90 year old woman nearly kick my butt. This lady was strong...none of us could believe it. It took 4 of us to restrain her and then I felt bad with this poor little old lady in 4pts. This morning my chiropractor kept poking around saying what did you do there and what the heck is this. I couldn't help but smile.

Well have a great holiday everyone! Try to resist the temptations but if you fall of the wagon don't worry. Pick yourself up and start again after the 1st. At least we have each other.

OMG the whole unit was full of chocolate, cookies, candy, cakes, you name it. Boxes, baskets, tins, bags of it. And I mean TONS. You could open up a shop w/what we had there yesterday when I worked.....

HORRIBLE.

Thank God it was a totally nutso shift w/o time for a real break. NO time to eat that junk. I sure hope some nurses took that stuff home to their kids or something. I just am SO SICK OF IT ALL ALREADY and the BIG day is not even HERE yet...how sad is that???? I am back to work tomorrow. I hope that stuff is gone by then.

Debbie AMEN and AMEN. I just got back from a party, and I thought, if I never see another Christmas treat it will be too soon. Same thing at work, goodies at every turn. I'm so looking forward to it ending.

Morning healthy living folk ----- at least we are sometimes anyway. :rotfl:

Been up since before the crack of dawn...yawning still...just couldn't sleep. Guess I should mozy on into the kitchen and fix myself breakfast. Think I'll have an omelette, whole grain toast, and juice. What are you all having this Christmas Eve morning?

Gosh - I was doing so well last night at our Chrismas Eve clam chowder dinner . . .I had the tomato based soup not the creamy one, didn't eat the sandwiches, had only coffee. But THEN those darn little moist, nutty, maple-flavored muffins came by . . they are only about 1/8 the size of a normal muffin but very dense in flavor and moistness. And I ate 6!!!!:bluecry1:

Oh man . . one more day to get through and then yes, you are right. Diet starts tomorrow.

I'm afraid to step on the scale.

Me too Steph. I'm afraid to step on the scale. I weighed last Monday and was so disappointed is why I decided to do a structured diet, as opposed to just doing what I want to do.

Bet those muffins were good though. :)

All that food around me.... Few Doctors bought sandwich trays and cookie trays for our unit. And some nurses made pies and pumpkin breads. It was just too much. I did not take a lunch during my shift, so I would not be tempted. I did try the pumpkin bread (and did not regret it) and I ate one sandwich. I weight myself this week (after weighing a new admit :D ), and I have lost 12 ponds total since Dec. 4th. But nobody seems to notice it :sniff: . All those Before and After pictures from Future_RN_Jess are a real inspiration. I just look at them when I get hungry for chocolate.

Good morning.

So the diet starts today. I mentioned I'm using e-diets as a menu and motivation resource, so I'm going to print out my shopping list today. I even got one of those little scales so I can learn what a portion truly is and stay within the calorie requirements for me to loose at least 10 pounds.

Kiyatylese congrats on the weight loss! Yes, Jess is indeed an inspiration. :)
