Ok folks, time has come to Start anew.......over 1000 posts means LOTS of bandwidth use here at allnurses.com. So I have been asked to remedy the situation.....
Anyhow, I have enjoyed so much your sharing, help and support here on the Healthier Living Thread....let's keep it up!!!!!:)
QOD: What is your favorite "old" or "new" healthy food/recipe? Care to share?
I have "rediscovered" oatmeal. Yep old fashioned good ole Quaker Oats-----the slow cooked kind.....with raisins, a bit of cinnamon and some Splenda.....YUMMY. Eating this as my dh's cholesterol and lipid counts were very high---trying to clean up my own dietary practices to help him with his....anyhow.....
Anyone else? As you change/grow/develop new tastes, what are your "old" or "new" healthier-choice favorites??? Care to share????
Tacoma is about 35 miles south of Seattle, WA. Snow here is a biiiig deal-----unlike elsewhere like the Midwest and Northeast. Can you believe it???? 4inches was enough to shut down our schools today and the kids are all NUTS!By the way, Welcome to the Healthier Living Thread, KRISSY!!!!![/quote
Thanks for welcoming me Deb. After a big storm in my life, I am trying to look to the healthy side physically, spiritually, mentally and emotionally. My dh and I eat very healthy. I have to work on the other things I mentioned. This is a great place to start-with people I really enjoy chatting with. Thank you for starting this thread. The snow in your area and you with your Golden Retriever made me feel peaceful. lol We also have a Golden, and he gives me a lot of healty happiness. Krisssy
Yes, that sounds great. I never heard of putting plantainsin beans?????? Or even olives for that matter. Hmmmm...........
That is what gives it the zing. Try it, I am sure you will like it. :)
We put plantains or "pasteles" in the rice too. Before you cover it you put banana leaves on top and it will cook your rice better and give it an awesome taste too.
So today I have an "off day" Went out to eat Italian and made a pig out of myself and was miserable. I had appetizer, meal (American size) and dessert. Afterwards I felt like I'd been on a drinking binge. One of these days I'm going to learn restraint. :)
I've done the same thing . . ..knowing full well ahead of time that I'm going to feel very bad physically after I do the same thing . . . we never really learn. :)
Must be in a very tiny way what drug addicts or alcoholics feel. They know they are going to feel awful in the end but they do it anyway for the "high" or whatever IT is.
Food just tastes so good - it is hard to say no.
But, I have to say that we are getting better. Never will be perfect. Just better.
Counter-balance a bad day with a good long walk or a butt-kicking yoga class . . I'd love to go to that class with you Tweety.
Enough philosophy for today . . . . gotta get my CHRISTMAS TREE up.

Hi everyone...I've been away too long had pages and pages to go thru! Welcome Krissy!
I too cheated yesterday...Went to Red Lobster with my cousin and ordered a steak and some fried shrimp. And let me just say I enjoyed every bite including the leftovers I ate for lunch today. But it's back to the grind tomorrow.
Can you all believe I lost 17 pounds?! And my dh lost 33. I don't see it in the mirror but everyone else does. I do see my clothes are baggy which is awesome!
Sorry I've been gone so long. I love this thread! Thanx Deb...Hope all is well with everyone.

I went to UNO pizza...........need I say more :imbar .
Today, I will be good. Tomorrow I KNOW I won't as it is my B-day and I know I will be eating dessert :)
