Nurses Stress 101

Published

Ok folks, time has come to Start anew.......over 1000 posts means LOTS of bandwidth use here at allnurses.com. So I have been asked to remedy the situation.....

Anyhow, I have enjoyed so much your sharing, help and support here on the Healthier Living Thread....let's keep it up!!!!!:)

QOD: What is your favorite "old" or "new" healthy food/recipe? Care to share?

I have "rediscovered" oatmeal. Yep old fashioned good ole Quaker Oats-----the slow cooked kind.....with raisins, a bit of cinnamon and some Splenda.....YUMMY. Eating this as my dh's cholesterol and lipid counts were very high---trying to clean up my own dietary practices to help him with his....anyhow.....

Anyone else? As you change/grow/develop new tastes, what are your "old" or "new" healthier-choice favorites??? Care to share????

Tweety, you are right;beans are good for ya. Got a 15 bean mix soaking for soup for tomorrow. Trying to incorporate more of these into my diet w/o gassing out the house. MY poor lil digestive system is shocked rofl.

I'm Puerto Rican my dh is Mexican, what more can I say.........We love beans! and rice for that matter :rotfl:

If you open my pantry you will find a wide variety of them. Yummy!

Luckily, my digestive system tolerates them just fine :coollook:

Jess, you should share some PR bean recipes. I usually just add some sofrito or racaito, sazon, and diced tomatoes to the beans, it's good, but I kind of just made it up because I like the combo.

Deb, here's the defintion from the yoga studio I go to about power yoga " POWER YOGA - Be prepared to sweat, as you are guided through a flowing sequence of postures designed to build strength, increase flexibility and relax your mind! You will leave feeling vibrant and centered!".

Power yoga is an American invention. I enjoyed it, but it kicked my butt.

Today I went to the gym and had another good workout with 40 minutes of aerobics. I'm having a mish mash of a lunch, some Indian seasoned chick peas, the rest of my salmon salad, some cottage cheese, some Kiefer, and some broccoli and asparagus drizzled with olive oil of course. Tonight we're having red meat, I'm cooking steak, beans (it's true your body gets used to it over time), and veggies.

Okiddoky Tweety:

If it's for just you and the spouse:

A little bit of olive oil in a pot (not pan). When it is hot, add 2 tablespoons of sofrito. A 1/4 teaspoon of cumin, a teaspoon of dried oregano, stuffed pimento olives, 1 knorr or Goya chicken boullion, 1 packet of Sazón (with coriander and annatto) and cook it up.

Then add the beans (preferably kidney beans) 1 can or you can cook your own. Add one green cooking banana or plantain. You also add about a cup or 2 of water (use your judgment). Cook them for about 10 minutes on low to medium heat. I add butternut squash to my beans 5 minutes before I remove them from the heat.

Chop some fresh cilantro and add it last. Cover and let them stand for 10 minutes so that the cilantro softens up a little but not too much.

Of course, if you really want to spice it up, you can add cubed pork chops or bacon (previously browned).

I serve my beans with brown or white rice. Accompany with your favorite meat and enjoy!

Thanks Deb! :)

I made 15 bean soup but spiced it up with tomatoes, peppers, cilantro, cumin, onions . . . . Lord help me I ate 3 bowls. Yummmmy.

Tweety is right - the more you incorporate gassy foods into your diet, the more your body adjusts. It darn well better after 3 bowls.

The Tacoma area looks like my avatar today! We got about 3-4 inches of very wet beautiful snow. When it's a bit lighter out, I am gonna go take some pics. The downside is, no one can function in snow here. All the schools are shut down and everything is slowed to a near halt. I guess I will not be going to Curves this morning. People simply can't drive on the stuff and the side streets are icy. Sigh....maybe I will take a walk in the snow w/my golden retriever---she simply ADORES snow.

Have a good day everyone----weekend is here!

Sounds nice, where is the Tacoma area?

Deb - I just walked into my pantry and started taking down cans . . . opened the fridge and took out onion and cilantro. There is no recipe.

I usually make soup this way - with whatever is handy.

I love tomato based soups though so thought I'd change the ham and beans to something spicier.
