head nurse interview

Nurses General Nursing

I wanted to see what you all thought of this. I have had three interviews already for this position. I have two more interviews on Tuesday with another 30 people. Then I have another one with the docs. I think interviewing with almost 50 people by the time I am done is excessive. Has anyone ever seen a person have to jump hoops like that?????

He there Ren

Good luck - I must admit l beleive that it seems very excessive to me - However everything crossed for you - Do you think that when your there a year we can find a conference out this way for you to go to (Paid of course) for you to visit - Particularly up Coffs Harbour -

BTW - Did you know that Russell and Dannielle are having baby in Jan - Also his band is currently touring - coming to my town - No l am sorry - didnt get tickets (Saying cery quietly wasnt really interested)

Anyway Ren - GOOD LUCK

I'm not surprised. When I applied for a Nurse Manager job, I first interviewed with one of the NM, then the Director of Nursing, then a group of staff nurses, who asked lots of various questions. I did not get to the level of meeting with the docs. (I don't think they had that level.) Like was said, it is, "let's make a consensus on this because we're going to have to all live with this decision." Sounds good! Good luck! Audrey

THanks Audrey and Tookie! Tookie the Grunts are coming to Chicago in August I believe. I tried to get hubby to go with me but DANG he won't. Yes I heard RC is expecting. Wow that was fast LOL.

Thanks everyone for your thoughts on the issue of the huge, LOL, interviews!

Hope things go well for you. I also had three interviews before being hired as manager---no docs in homecare...nurses rule here, LOL.

Good Luck keeping fingers crossed.

Sounds like you have a decent chance, Ren. I wish you only the best.

It will be great having someone on their team who REALLY understands the job and who will be an advocate for the staff.

Yikes, three interviews! Fingers and toes crossed with prayers give you peace and empowerment.

Thanks Karen and nightngale! I do love being a manager. I also do not let people drown on the floor. I remember our nurse manager would not come out of her office unless there was a code going on.

Honey, with those qualifications you are gold --- if they don't see that consider sunny Texas.

Good luck. If, after you have interviewed with everyone, you still think the position is a good fit for you, I hope you get it.

While the total number of people (50) involved in the interviews is more than I have experienced, the number of interviews and groups you must talk with is not. It's quite common for people applying for leadership positions to interview with representatives from all the different groups who have a stake in who's hired. For out-of-town candidates, a set of 6 or7 interviews that take all day is commonplace.

The longest set of interviews I ever did was 12 hours in one day, with multiple people and groups. However, I was once scheduled for a 2-day set of interviews that included both a dinner meeting in-between the two days and the need to give an educational presentation for their hospital. I decided not to interview there because my 1st choice offered me a job before I actually went for that interview.

Good luck with it. Does sound excessive with that many people but not surprised. With everything at stake these days people are getting very very picky as to who they put in positions of authority, that is a good thing.

I think the nurse manager position is probably one of the most important as far as leadership goes.

Thanks everyone for your thoughts. My interviews on Tuesday are over a 5.5 hour span. I figured I would hang out in the cafeteria in between. Good way to listen to what people are saying about the hospital and I know people who work there as well so I might run into them. I have heard some horrible things from travelers who have been there as well as from the people I interviewed with about the travelers.

all the best to you!

Love a nurse thanks for wishing me well. I got a call from the hospital today that one of the candidates just dropped out so it is just between myself and another nurse. That sure narrows it down.
