Have you literally prayed over your workplace?

Feeling called to pray over my workplace.

I will go from one desk to the other, praying for each worker. I will pray over the charts for our patients as a whole. I am able to do it when the office is empty.

Any thoughts? If you have done this, did you do it alone? What were the results?

This was quite rude

But so Christian ...

Maybe someone should start a "Christian only" thread. Atheist...stay out and keep your negative comments to yourself. If you want to suffer eternity burning in Hell for not being being a Christ follower, that's your problem.

Christians care enough about you to try to save you from that. But if you reject salvation....so be it.

I assume your point is that you're a Christian? So how is it, exactly, that you're trying to "save" us -- by being rude and dismissive to people with different perspectives than yours? Nice advertisement for Christianity there -- makes me feel all warm and fuzzy inside. Maybe I'll go to church tomorrow, after all ...

To the OP and midlifern .

There is a religion section in the break room for promoting or sharing one's personal beliefs. There you will find like minded people.

I personally haven't prayed but I worked in the CVICU and we had a Native American patient that needed open heart. He asked for an was granted a visit from his tribe's Medicine Man. It was a fascinating ceremony and the patient went through with flying colors.

That would have been fascinating.

No, but I've cursed my workplaces a lot over the years. Does that count?

Did you curse all four corners? ;)

I have asked it before, what is it about the 'loving' god of the christian faith that wants to torment me even after I am dead. At least the old testament god let me sleep in peace when I died.

The God I worship doesn't torment people in a fiery hell.

I've always wondered at self-proclaimed Christians who seem to get a smug delight out of the prospect of people going to hell.

Once, when I was a kid, a minister's wife (not someone of my faith) said to me, "One day, I'll be up in Heaven, and you'll be down in Hell, and you'll look up at me and cry, 'Oh Mrs. Clarke, I wish I'd listened to you when you told me I needed to be born again'."

All said with that same smug smile.

Please do not make comments that condemn others' religious beliefs/opinions.

Please stick to the topic, "have you literally prayed over your work place".

Thanks ...

Prayer away in private or in your thoughts.

If it brings some peace or purpose to you and your life, have at it.

You can pray for me all you want but keep it to yourself. I don't want to know about it though, thank you.

Afraid.....? No, but I would be absolutely astounded if anything actually happened after a prayer.

Well, I've actually seen and experienced changes/events after prayers.

So if someone offers to pray to Odin or Ra or Zeus, for you, you would be OK with that?

Not concerned about that at all. As far as I'm concerned, they are false "gods", and the only One I'm concerned about praying to is greater than any other. Also, please note that I said something about people not necessarily knowing if I pray for them. I don't go around asking, I don't pray out loud, etc. , but if I am led to do so, I will. If I ask someone if they are okay if I pray for them and they say "no", then I respect that, at least out loud. They won't know if I do silently. No, that's not dishonest, but it could be life changing for that person. Not really sure why it troubles people to be prayed for, but it seems to. And, that's each person's prerogative .

Yes. In my life it is necessary. For the poster who said they would be "none too happy" if someone prayed over you, my guess is that you wouldn't know. And, why the big deal? Are you afraid that something may actually happen as a result of a prayer or two? (I'm not trying to sound snarky, I am genuinely interested in why it bothers you that someone would pray over you.)

I would not want someone to pray over me per se. I consider myself a pan denominational Christian which means I believe that Jesus Christ is my lord and savior but my faith is a very personal thing. I pray every day when I get up in the morning and when I go to bed at night. I pray before I start my shift and I say a silent prayer every time I start an IV or other procedure. That being said I don't really talk about my faith or push it on anyone and I would never presume to pray over one of my patient's unless they asked me to. I have often wondered why people who are atheists are so offended by those who believe. If you are so sure of the rightness of your position you have nothing to fear from the likes of me.

Please remember, this is ALLnurses.com not USnurses.com so I am going to answer this from a purely UK viewpoint.

If you did this in any workplace - hospital, office, shop - in the UK you would be called the religious nutter. I am NOT comparing religious belief with mental illness. You would be seen as a bit of a laughing stock and unlikely to be trusted or promoted. It is highly likely that you would be taken aside by HR or management and asked to tone it down a bit as you were making your colleagues uncomfortable.

So in short, if you do this in the UK, YOU are the one seen to be in the wrong. As long as you keep it to yourself and don't do it front of anyone - no problem. As soon as it becomes public - instant ridicule.
