Has New Bill on Retrogession been passed?

It has not been passed, and nothing will be done about it until after the US elections and the new Congress is seated. Creating visas for nurses are not an emergency in the US.

There is talk of thatr vill, as well as many others. Trust me, when something becomes actual law, it will be posted here.

The retrogression is going to hit before anything is done, no way around that. Visas do not happen over night, even the talk of the retorgression has been going on for months, it is not something new.

And also, the quota exempt language came from the Senate version of the bill and the House is normally much more strict when it comes to such things.

There is no assurance that such language would survive to make it into any Law - and probably more likely, that it would not.

So, even IF Immigration reform is passed next year, I would not bet on this being part of the final law. See, some of the politicians are arguing to their home districts that language like this would allow for 100 million new immigrants in 10 yrs.

Hyperbole, to be sure. But, once a politician RUNS on such rhetoric, if they win, it will be expressed in their votes. That makes it less likely such a provision would survive into law.

If it were me, I would not count on an open quota. I would work my way through the system, as it currently exists.

Only Philippines, India , and China would be affected by this Retrogression. UK, Canada and South Korea are not included in the 50,000 visa quota..So like it or not, you would still continue to receive foreign nurses on your unit...Even if the nurses' quota will be abolished, US immigration law always changes and it is unpredictable, so dont you worry, they are not giving easy visas to foreigners every year and opening USA to all...and it is not very easy to enter United States, mind you.foreign nurses are having a very hard time fulfilling all the US exam requirements and dealing with the very long wait to be there with or without retrogression..

Actually, the concept of immigrant nurses doesn't bother me. I think the advantages to y'all far outweigh any negative to me.

I'm just being realistic. From where I sit, knowing how politics work in the country, I doubt very seriously that there IS any realistic chance of this making it into law.

See, no matter how the next election turns out, even IF the Democrats take a slim control of one or both houses, there are too many Republicans that take a hard line on immigration AND too many Democrats whose seats would be unsafe if they DIDN'T to ensure this provision doesn't make it to the final version of the law.

I know you guys are really really wanting this. But, I don't set it happening. I'm just being realistic.

There is HOPE that I'll win the lottery and be rich this week. But, I don't plan my life based on such things. There's a saying: if it sounds too good to be true, it likely IS too good to be true.

At the moment no one knows which countries will be affected but generally looks at the demand on visas and countries with a high demand will find things slowing down on the visa front until something is sorted. I believe the US have elections coming up so can't see much happening until after that.

If they are being selective and accomodative at the same time, they can require NCLEX and English test for immigration (instead of CGFNS) without any quota.

I know that..I am not ignorant on how laws should be passed in a democratic country, and nobody says that Zashagalk comments were rediculous and had no base at all..As you said it depends on the mood of the congress and the senate, but what Zashagalk said was that there is no way that this bill would be granted by the Houses-and that he is just being realistic and doesnt base his life on false hopes like winning the lottery- I just reacted on what he said because I dont like it and find it irritating..period..

everyone please try to be as much as possible be civil and friendly as we can w/ each other.

we are in a forum and in a forum there is free exchange of opinions and ideas and we should always respect each other's opinions no matter how it differs from ours.

I'm sorry if I upset you but my goal wasn't to 'rain on your parade'.

I would like as many of you that can to come over here. I just wouldn't want to see some not try to engage the current system under a mistaken belief that a new, much more liberal system, is about to be adopted.

My goal wasn't to say: so THERE!.

It was to say: don't let this potential news keep you from engaging the current system BECAUSE it's probably unlikely that a no quota system will pass.
