RE: RN pay in the philippines
It's not that easy as it seem. Corruption runs deeper than most people realize. It is overpopulated and the teeming poor will sell their votes to any politician who will give them favors. That's why you see the same problems every year and even the middle class will be outnumber when the tyranny of numbers rule in every election. Armed revolt won't do anything as the generals are as corrupt as the mainstream politicians.

Tuition in Phils deductible for US tax returns?
Tuition are not tax-deductible. There are very few schools qualified for loan programs (those with FAFSA codes) and they are filled with local applicants. UST, AUF (angeles), Fatima, Silliman. Some don't even have nursing school like AIM.

Only better jobs, economy can stop exodus of healthcare workers
True. Although nowadays, only the Middle Eastern countries are open for foreign nurses but they require experience so that's a catch-22 situations for new graduates.

Nursing In Spain?
Spanish used to be a college requirement in the Philippines and when I was a student there they teach the Castillan form (so there's no problem there). If you are not fluent, there's a lot of colleges that teaches the subject or you can go to Instituto de Cervantes. As for Nursing jobs in Spain, some of my wife's friends who are still in the Philippines are going but as suzanne pointed out (and as I have suspected) these are caregiving positions. Pay is not great, some source say about a thousand Euro. I would not suggest it unless you have no other choice.

LVN or LPN school in phil
It used to be that way. I've been asking different Nursing Boards and they DON'T allow BSN trained overseas to take the LPN exam anymore. My wife was planning to do this as she is not yet confident for the NCLEX-RN but they most boards changed the rules.

RP eyes Finland as new destination for nurses
Yes, they are part of EU. They can probably take a few and learning Finnish is not easy.

Please help Ca student moving to Philippines
Unfortunately, most of the good schools there don't accept students with a Bachelors degree. Stay away from ADN programs especially the one in St. Ignatius. The reputable schools that MIGHT accept a degree holder is Silliman University ( a good school established by American religious group) but I'm not sure about how competitive it is to get in (with your GPA). The other one is Arellano University. They also have a bridging program in the US but it is very competitive (they only take top students). But none of these schools will accelerate you and it will take you a minimum of 3-4 years to finish.

DoH wants to stop doctors from leaving RP
From a recent news article, judges are one of the best paid positions. The lowest judge (local RTC) usually earns PhP68K. Many earn more than the President (which is absurd). Lawyers tend to earn better than doctors as they have a lot of career options. But I agree that they should start closing Nursing schools SOON. Start with those 0% passing then go upwards until only those with consistent 60% passers will remain.

Filipino Nurses
Nursing is a very stressful job and Americans have a lot of choices with less stressful jobs that pays decently. I've worked in different jobs in the Philippines so i can say that you can earn decent amount of money in the US as a nurse if you are willing to work long hours in a stressful environment. There are not many jobs in the Philippines where you can earn well without working hard.

What are the effects of over-supply of Filipino nurses?
Lots of underemployed graduates. Especially with recurrent retrogression going on.

MD-RN needs help on agency
The minimum wage in the US is currently $5.25 per hour (it might increase to about $7 per hour once congress pass the bill). You might be able to survive on $17 per hour but not with the lifestyle that you currently have as a doctor in the Philippines if your husband will not work in the US. It will depend on how much you can scrimp with your budget. Unless you take in too much personal loans like credit cards, you will get through if you know how to budget. But i also agree with Suzanne that you have a better position if you took the NCLEX. But since you signed the contract, you have to do the best in your situation. Your husband should also plan to take exams so he could work in the future.

sentiments on *some* schools here in the Phils.
Unfortunately, most of the top schools in Nursing (except for the schools in the Visayas like Silliman or the Cebu schools) do not accept second-coursers. Most of my relative who are second coursers (even my wife) went to not-so-good schools but are making the best of the situation. The important thing is hospital affiliations and the desire to learn. The only advantage of US based students studying there is that they dont have to worry about getting a visa. However, they still have to study a lot for the NCLEX to make up for any teaching deficiencies.

General Discussion about Filipino RNs currently working in the U.S.
That's because as somebody mentioned in this forum, your credit is tied with your social security number. I have a personal loan in the US which dont even show in my credit history as they did not put my social security number.

If you are on my shoes, what would you do?? pls read..
She's going to take NCLEX but she will need some intensive review (you can use Suzanne's strategies for the review). If you are in Manila, the nearest location for the exam is Hong Kong. If you are already an immigrant, why don't you just take it in the mainland and avoid the extra fee? Florida I think don't require CGFNS exam but they require CES (credential evaluation). Just make sure you have enough clinical hours and transcripts of records (the Florida BON can give you the details and exact requirements for each subject).

My wife is in the same boat. Don't even think about taking the local boards there. It would just complicate things if things go crazy as what happened lately with the NLE. There are a number of states that don't require the CGFNS exam (hence no Phil licensure requirement). You only need to take NCLEX. If you are an immigrant, a few states would require some English test. Just inquire with each nursing board the specific requirements.
