I am curious if anyone has ever gotten in trouble at work about something they have posted here. I have not gotten into any trouble. Of course, I don't use my real name so I think that helps. Thanks.
FYI, you are rarely ever anonymous online. Many websites leave "cookies" in the history log of the internet browser you use. Your IP address is logged on MANY sites and associated with usernames. Go to whatsmyip.com to see what it is and see how to surf privately.
There's a site my hubby told me about (after I asked him if he knew about whatsmyip) that conceals your identity. It's called hidemyass, if anyone's interested.

Would that be hidemyass.com or the more humanitarian sounding hidemyass.org ? :) Lately on the rare occasions that I log out allnurses tells me all my cookies are cleared!! I'm guessing this is a good thing by the addition of an exclamation point at the end.
I've always been careful to obscure details of actual living persons, just in case and I never use anyone else's computer to log on to the site.
On any post right click and view source. Lots of information there, didn't go though it but it might have someone ip address? if it does then it tells the user alot about the poster, state, city, ect. It's really hard to have internet privacy now of days.
Posting also leaves a written copy of your post. About a year ago, a rather large company was suing a online poster for what I want to call "slander posting" the company was suing for a rather large amount of funds claiming the posts had a negative consumer response resulting in lost sales, and you guessed it, they were seeking the loses from the poster. It was a first at the time and I was really curious about it, and the possible implications it would have on the bulletin boards communities. I'm assuming that it is still in courts. I also just read yesterday about DICE arresting people for streaming TV online. What I found interesting about this was the person who facing 5-10 years in jail and $100,000's in fines just for having a website that had links to other sites with the TV streams. What does this mean if I post a link to youtube? and it sounds like this is currently legal defense strategy. I guess what I'm saying is the internet can be a pretty scary place.
i have told the people i work with about allnurses in hopes that they too will enjoy this site. when i visit at work, i never log on, i just read the posts. as far as my info goes, i suppose if you followed all my posts, and personal info, and decided to supersleuth who i was, yeah sure i may be found out. as far as facebook goes, i'm pretty careful about what i post on there.

don't surf the net at work on a work computer, period. it will be seen and traced. the only defensible reason is to look up a drug, proceedure or technique.

I have never been in trouble, but others at my workplace have been. I NEVER log in from work. My hospital actually monitors this website!
