Hi all,
I went on an interview several days ago and was taken aback by the nurse manager, who swore (not at me of course, but during our conversation), not once, but twice!
One of the interviewers I knew, so I am not sure if that made her to comfortable, or what. It was a little awkward and I totally would not ever expect that to happen, especially during an interview.
I was also a bit put off because when I asked to speak to a staff member the nurse manager stayed in the room, as if the staff member is going to be honest with me with her in the room. Just odd, I figured most managers would pick up on the fact that that was intended as a private interaction so that I could truly elicit if it was a decent place to work!
Overall one of the most awkward interviews I have had, ever!!

I guess I'm a bit uptight, but that might be a problem for me. Depending upon how closely I would be working with the manager, I might not consider a job after that interview. Would you have any other chance to speak with staff members away from the manager, do you know anyone that works there? Good luck with your search.

I swear, but I know enough to not swear until people know me well. I wouldn't do it in an interview.
But wait, what words did she use, and the context? That would factor into my opinion.
Did she say something like "It's a damn fine department and you'd be hella lucky to work here" or did she say "The position is vacant because the previous nurse was a no-talent assclown mother ******" ?

[And I will say LOL, too, so I can have enough characters to post this!]
LOL Klone, I just spit my water out! I believe the word was **** and *** or maybe it was ****, I don't remember. I swear all the time, but there is a time and a place for it, like when a patient is pissing me the **** off!

Sounds like the manager is a real person. Imagine that.

You mean I should not have said this while interviewing someone? Whoops.
In all seriousness...I swear now and then too. Not good form on the NM's part to swear during the interview. Personally, I would have to judge things based on the entire interview, not based on this one snap shot. I would be more concerned that she would not let you have a confidential talk with a nurse on the unit.

Oh crap, you made me laugh out loud at work. Yes, I am sitting here all by myself laughing out loud as my co-worker is now staring at me.

Actually I would be MORE likely to take the job if the manager swears at will. But I'm in the ER now, and we don't hold back.
