Has anyone taken any classes from Western Governors University, the RN to BSN program? It looks like a great program, but the classes are not your typical pay per class style. They go by a 6 month period, you pay a fee for that period and can take or test out of as many classes as you would like.
I also like the fact that when I told them I could not start until the fall of 2010 they kept my name and information on file and update me once a month, but are not pushing. I filled out a form for info on another college 2 days ago and they haven't stopped calling, calling, calling since. I do not like the pressure tactics. Thank you.
My first term will end Dec 31, and I've completed the initial classes and added two more from upcoming terms, so I've finished 18 credits so far. I took 3 weeks off in September, and did a little procrastinating in the beginning. Yesterday I started Information Management at 10:30 and took my webcam proctored test at 1930. Not too bad. I still get emails from UTA and GCU trying to get me to enroll. The rep from GCU actually blasted WGU. I love the fees, and really like that there are no textbook fees. I've had NO problems contacting mentors - they have all been awesome. Best BSN program, in my opinion.
If you search the postings you will find many responses to this question that has been asked and answered several times. I have not yet completed the program so I can't answer from a personal perspective but the responses have largely been positive.
Honestly I wish they would create a sticky.
Just have answers ready. Yes, it is accredited. Be prepared to explain the difference between competency-based learning and giving credit for "life experience" and talk about some of your coursework.
There are those who will have a bad opinion of online colleges, or WGU in particular. That is life. If they are so closed-minded that they won't even hear you out about it, you are probably dodging a bullet. There are more who don't care about anything but the degree, or feel positively towards WGU

Papers don't have a set length. They'll give a suggested length, but the important part is covering everything in the rubric, and there is no penalty for going shorter as long as everything is adequately covered.
Average length varies depending on the assignment and your writing style. Most are in the 5-10 page range. The one referred to as "The Beast" is generally the longest, and in the 25 page range.
I haven't found the graders too picky. Other people have. I'm sure it depends somewhat on what grader you happen to get, as well as the knowledge and writing skill you bring into it.
