Has anyone done the WGU online RN to BSN program?

Has anyone taken any classes from Western Governors University, the RN to BSN program? It looks like a great program, but the classes are not your typical pay per class style. They go by a 6 month period, you pay a fee for that period and can take or test out of as many classes as you would like.

I also like the fact that when I told them I could not start until the fall of 2010 they kept my name and information on file and update me once a month, but are not pushing. I filled out a form for info on another college 2 days ago and they haven't stopped calling, calling, calling since. I do not like the pressure tactics. Thank you.:uhoh3:

I'd like to hear about personal experiences with this school as well.

I was all set to start the RN-BSN program on March 1st. Had a great experience with my enrollment counsellor...at the start. They were very helpful. Then it came time for tuition....the wanted the tuition up front, and this was BEFORE they even evaluated my transcripts. They gave me a tuition due date (which was February 26th I believe), but still did not evaluate my transcripts. They said that they were received, but as far as what courses I would have to take, etc....nothing. I emailed the enrollment counsellor several times, but did not receive an answer. All I kept getting was requests for tuition payment. Finally, I received an email stating that the tuition due date had passed (this was from a different counsellor). I replied that I was no longer interested in WGU due to the lack of response I received.

I started to have second thoughts about the whole program when I saw how anxious they were to receive my tuition payment before they even told me what courses I would have to take. I just got a bad feeling. Im extremely dissappointed because I was totally set to take the course.

They took my application money and never evaluated my transcripts. Now the website has even newer "requirements" which apparently I did not meet when I first got involved with them. Had these "requirements" been out there when I first started dealing with them, I would not be out the money I gave them with the application. Who applies for something knowing that they can't get what they are applying for? This school is not building a good reputation for itself.

I'd like to know if and when you started a new program? Thank you!

Recently, I learned about WGU from a co-worker. She made the decision to attend WGU because of the relatively low cost and flat fee per 6 month term. Amazingly, she finished the program in 8 months. I don't think this is the norm, but she explained that she did nothing but assignments and papers during All her free time, including nearly 24 weekend hours.

For nearly a month or so, I've been researching online RN to BSN programs. When inquiring at University of Phoenix, I found the enrollment counselor to be somewhat determined to get me to commit to their program. She reminded me of a car salesman. When I mentioned to her that I found another school (WGU) and that it would mostly likely cost a little over a third of what U of P charged AND it was a legit, accredited university, her only response was.. "Yeah, but do you really want to go to a school that no one knows about? Or would you rather go to a school that everyone knows about?" It was then that I made my decision to go to WGU.

All my interactions, so far, with the enrollment counselor at WGU have been awesome! I applied, had my transcripts sent out, took the placement test and within two weeks my transcripts were evaluated and I was accepted. So far I'm very pleased with my experience at WGU.. Hopefully it will go as smoothe as it has so far. Oh, and one more thing.. University of Phoenix is a "for profit" company. WGU is non-profit. Hopes this helps anyone with questions related to WGU.

Caid - what type of dergee did your friend complete so quickly? was is a bachelors or masters and was it in nursing?

What did the assignments entail? I reckon from your description that they keep feeding you one class at a time, is that right? Is that how your friend burned through the classes so quickly?

thank you for that. I too was called by U of P many many times. I told them I was looking at a few different colleges and had not made my decision yet. One college even called me at work one night, and was upset that I asked them not to do that and did not have time to talk. I have decided on WGU because theyy understood that when I was ready I would make the choice. I am sure my decision has been made to attend WGU.

Once again thank you for the information.

My co-worker went through WGU's RN to BSN program. She had all her prerequisites though and so I believe she had 97 out of the 120 units that are needed to graduate. She was very determined and focused. I have 90 out the 120 needed so I figure if I can at least stretch it to 15 units (3 units over the required 12 per semester), I will graduate within one year. It took her 8 months. Good luck..

So, when do you start the program? I begin on December 1st .. I'm really excited..

Hi Caid, I was suppose to start 11/1 but due to changes in my financial aid & their scholarship I applied for, I will start 12/1 also. I just changed it today. I have 98 pre-req so I have 23 units including EWB which I think you can complete in a a couple of weeks. I am also eager to start & plan on completing the BSN in 6 months. Keep in touch!
