  1. Fostermomof3, I also did my practicum on obesity, PM me and I can give you some pointers!
  2. I just finished the program yesterday with the practicum being my last assignment handed in. It depends on what state your in, as there are about 5 states that are regulated meaning you have guidelines to follow and must have a preceptor to ok your hours. The practicum has to cover a community health issue for example I did obesity for my county. I went to weight watchers, gyms, went to parks to view physical activity etc. It takes some time to get 90 hours, I completed in 3 weeks (30hrs ea) but you have to do task 1 of HAT first as alot of info from that paper goes into your practicum paper. Its not bad at all very doable, but its strictly community work. They want to see communication with the varying health depts as well, can just be an email or phone calls. All of your time is calculated in, even travel to and from sites. They also give you 10 hrs to begin from research done from the HAT1 paper so you only need 80. The only regulated state I'm aware of is California, your mentor will be able to tell you if your in one as I couldn't find anything in taskstream to tell me what the states are. Good luck guys, if you have any more questions let me know because I really liked the program!
  3. I'm in the RN- BSN & OMG!. I started in Dec & breezed through the EWB in a couple of days and then the real work began & I have 3 papers due & with the holiday I'm so far behind. I only need 21 more units & was trying to do it within this term. Once you start you get alot of support from your mentor and the student community. Good luck all!
  4. Congratulations!!!! I'm glad you got in! I just started the RN-BSN yesterday. Your going to love the school, lots of support!
  5. I'm starting December 1, very excited to start a new chapter in my life!
  6. If you don't pass a test you can retake it but you must wait 45 days before you can reschedule. If you fail a second time you have to wait even longer, I THINK 90 days but read the student handbook for your program, its in there. Pearsonvue centers will give you your test results upon completion of your exam and on the back of it shows percentages of the different areas you were tested on & how you did. Good luck with the program!
  7. Christy I think your ready too, but I also reviewed my Saunders book for content that covered each of the areas of the lifespan exams, good luck!
  8. Hi Christy, I'm happy to finally get to speak to someone who attends. I also graduated from EC, in 08/10, & attempted to start WGU 11/1 but still stuck w/choosing other schools. Anyway, how are the assessment , did you apply for there rolling scholarships, did you buy any textbooks, & how many units do you need to do the MSN. I'm doing the BSN & starting 12/1 & need 23 units including the EWB so I hope to be done soon, I just rec'd my webcam today (hehe). Sorry for all the questions! but thanks in advance for answering!
  9. All but one nursing assessment, Organizational Systems & Quality Leadership are performance assessments which consists of projects, essays, & research papers. One of the recommended textbooks is the apa manual so its probably apa style for the papers. The other assessment mentioned above is a proctored-computer based exam which means your tested via a proctor on case studies, video based items, short answers, & multiple choice. They provide you with a webcam as part of your tuition if any of your assessments need proctoring.
  10. If you can devote 20-30 hrs per week, it can be done. WGU does not have courses, they are competency assessments based on units not credits. 2 of my 23 units are an introductory assessment that all students must take and I've been told that it can be done in about 4 hrs from a current student and the remaining assessments are mostly papers.
  11. Hi Caid, I was suppose to start 11/1 but due to changes in my financial aid & their scholarship I applied for, I will start 12/1 also. I just changed it today. I have 98 pre-req so I have 23 units including EWB which I think you can complete in a a couple of weeks. I am also eager to start & plan on completing the BSN in 6 months. Keep in touch!
  12. I have applied there & will be starting 11/1 if I don't change my mind. I applied to 5 schools including EC where I just graduated. WGU met all my criteria, accredited, great price (3250 for six months), transfer credits accepted, great customer service, and no group discussion & participation. I only require 23 credits to graduate, and I believe I can complete them in 6 months. My concern is my other choice, Thomas Edison State, I would have to do 28 credits but 9 of them apply towards an MSN which is great since the per credit price(340) is for BSN not MSN, but will take me a year to complete so choices choices choices!!!! When I was near completion for my LPN I knew I was going to EC. The choices are many however for the RN-BSN. I'll keep you guys informed of my new journey!
  13. Amanda, IMO EC's practice exams are worth their weight in gold. You get 2 exams with 100 questions each. The enrollment fee does not have to be pd right away, your allowed to take gen req as well as two nursing courses (health safety and transition) before its due. The enrollment fee as well as exams have monthly pymt plans so its feasible to pay as you go. Good luck!
  14. Morristown Hospital and Overlook Hospital in the Atlantic Health Systems also have an iv cert course, I believe its 2 days & also $300.
  15. Hi Lisa RN, I was in the same dilema. I grad 8/20 & applied to 5 schools, 3 brick & mortar in NJ plus EC & Western Governors(wgu). I got accepted in my local schools but have decided to do online. OMG their are so many online BSN programs! EC was the only school that did not clear me for gen ed & req 12 credits in addition to the nursing so wgu accepted all my credits & I will only need 23 total to get my BSN. The terms are 6 months for $3250 + 350 library fee & I know I will complete by June 2011. I also applied for a scholarship. If you can locate Lunah's post she has a list of BSN programs along with the cost per credit to save you some time as it did me. There are several very affordable programs out there.
