Has anyone taken any classes from Western Governors University, the RN to BSN program? It looks like a great program, but the classes are not your typical pay per class style. They go by a 6 month period, you pay a fee for that period and can take or test out of as many classes as you would like.
I also like the fact that when I told them I could not start until the fall of 2010 they kept my name and information on file and update me once a month, but are not pushing. I filled out a form for info on another college 2 days ago and they haven't stopped calling, calling, calling since. I do not like the pressure tactics. Thank you.

just emailed request.
tLike with other schools, it is the science courses that can not be more than five years old. This is on the website, you just have to be able to find it.
I was told I have to retake stats that I took 20 yrs ago. Stats is math not science, so I shouldnt have to retake , right? Not signed up yet, just working out the bugs first
You'll need to retake the statistics if you have not passed a stats class within the preceding five-year period. It's WGU's policy.I was told I have to retake stats that I took 20 yrs ago. It should be no big deal...do not be under the impression that this is a true 'math' course. WGU's statistics course is rather watered-down. There are no calculations or number crunching, and you need absolutely no comprehension of algebra or calculus to pass this course.
The class entails concepts and definitions that provide you with just enough knowledge to understand peer-reviewed journal articles and research pieces. In spite of my hideous math ability, I passed the course in a few weeks.
I started the program in June, did two courses and tested out with passing grade (which were easy), I took a look at Biochemistry and honestly had to get all the information for the first task from outside resources. I was unable to get information/help from a course mentor (they actually told me to follow the 25 day plan, which I was). I was unable to load my first task... Hate the program! The upcoming courses looked like a real pain. Not hard, just annoying and as though you had to pull teeth to get info. Transferring to a different school. Does anyone have any suggestions?
I started June 1st, transferred in 80 credits. Passed two courses. HATE biochemistry. I feel like none of the info is there to complete the tasks... Looking for a new school. I may actually do a different Bachelors degree. I have been an RN for many years and just want any accredited degree. I don't need a BSN for my line of work...
Vetnrse: My student mentor was lovely! The Biochemistry mentors were NOT helpful... Just spewed the party line. I actually withdrew after receiving my passing grades!!! They sent me an email, in case I wanted to rescind my withdrawal... I have now confirmed that I don't... I looked at the courses to come and they were MUCH more complex and time consuming than I had thought. There are a few courses in which material is all over the place... I just don't want to do it there!!! In my ADN program, I graduated with honors and found all the science (and other) courses very straight up... I just do not love WGU. They have restructured the program to make it a lot harder and most people take 18 months to get through on average. They changed everything to maintain accreditation. I'm just not at the point in life where I want to torture myself for a BSN!
I went into it thinking I could do it in a year... Based on a lot of posts. My student mentor told me most people do not do it that quickly anymore. It's not impossible, just unlikely. (I had 40 credits to do) She also advised me that the people who used to graduate in 6-8 months were all before the program changed.
Having said that, perhaps your experience will be different. It has been awhile since I was in school (ADN in 1991). However, I was at the top of my class and pretty much aced most of my classes. I was pretty shocked at how much time, and how much searching, and searching, and searching, through material to get the answers I needed was required at WGU. Physical assessment requires you to video yourself doing a head to toe assessment. I needed to take a humanities course (which I didn't take) and it had SO much material to cover. They are super picky about format, etc. I remember school being a lot easier back in the day.
I have oretty much much decided to go back for a psych degree... I don't need a BSN for what I am doing now and it may launch a new second career.

It would help if you used the quote function to provide some more context about the post you are responding to, because I'm not sure what was actually said.
You can't "test out of assignments" at WGU. All mandatory assignments are mandatory for everyone.
There are non-mandatory exercises provided to enhance learning, but these are optional for everyone - there's no need to test out of them.
