Happy Flippin' Nurse's Day

Published

Wow. The company I work for used to be really good about treating nurses well during nurse's week. One year they hired a massage therapist to give 15 minute chair massages. Then one year they bought us lunch. Well this year.....a blood drive was organized.....for us nurses to donate to. Free food for those who donate. Is it just me, or is that pretty....ummmm.....what's the word....CRAPPY? I guess the bad economy is their excuse....Are there ANY decent places to work????

My agency didn't even say it. Not even a happy nurses day insert in our paychecks.

We're being asked to give to a food drive. To "give back to the community"

like we don't give enough of ourselves already!

Specializes in Medsurg/ICU, Mental Health, Home Health.

We have Nurses' Day. We are given a "gift," and some food.

However, what used to be "Nurses' Week" is now "Great Place to Work Week."

Riiiight...y'all try to run this joint without us nurses. I think we deserve AT THE VERY LEAST a week. (Considering last year we had a week!)

Yeah...we took a pay cut. Happy freakin' Nurses Week!

year after year I have watched Nurse's day celebrations and gifts become less and less to the point it seems almost an afterthought it anything is done. One year it was left out of the budget so our nurse managers used their own money to buy gifts for their own staff. Bags, backpacks and water bottles are over done. Treats are handed out at times when floor staff can't enjoy them esp breakfast which is done from 6-9a; night and day shift busy times. with nurse's week and hospital week being two consecutive weeks it just isn't feasible to expect much. Quite frankly, I don't expect anything and therefore am not disappointed...

I love my hospital. They have invested alot into our nurses and into new grads. i'm a new grad and in the new grad residency program. This year for nurses week we received umbrellas and free food. our doctors also bought i food that covered the whole week. We also just had employee appreciation day and we received really nice jackets!!

Oh by the way we are a Magnet hospital!

Specializes in ER/Trauma.

We are a Magnet hospital too, but we got ice cream at a time when no one could enjoy it, then the houskeepnig staff took it out of the freezer. No gifts or other food, we were asked to "nominate" a charity to donate the funds they would have spent on us to.

Now, Doctor's Day, that's an all out celebration......... :(

I feel appreciated for my work and love where i work :)

Oh by the way we are a Magnet hospital!

Oh, you will learn, probie, you will learn. :)

Well, maybe you won't...maybe you will always feel this way.

I digress.

Umbrellas was our gift this year...and we got free food.

We received fleeces, but we had to pay for them.

Anyway, we're magnet as well. Oddly enough, this is the first nurses' day with the magnet designation. And the first year we have "Great Place to Work Week" instead of "Nurses' Week."

Hey, at least you get food if you donate...the place I work wrote "Happy Nurses Week" on the white board...of course it was in RED marker, so maybe that helps make it a celebration! :uhoh3: HFNW!

We got a lousy lunch bag... actually I didn't even get one but another nurse offered me another nurses bag since the other nurse did 2 no call no shows....

Any way would of been nice to get something good...
