Had my nursing school orientation yesterday!

Hello everyone!

This is the first topic that I have started but some of you might have read a couple of my comments on other posts. I found out at the end of last month that I got accepted to a BSN program. It was my 2nd time applying and they even denied me again but, due to some candidates getting accepted to and going to other nursing schools, a spot became available. I had my orientation yesterday and I cannot wait to start school in August! Since I work in a hospital, I already have things like my immunizations and CPR, all I need to do is make copies of everything. Another thing that I am excited about is that our clinical uniforms are navy blue, I thought I would have to wear white for the next 3 years but apparently not! I didn't really time to speak to any of my classmates since we took a short break in the middle and then I had to leave immediately afterwards since my graduation for my BA in Spanish was the same day (and at a different university). Since I am done with school until Fall, I plan to work so I can save up money, buy my books for next semester in order to start studying a little bit (plus review Anatomy and Physiology), and most importantly, enjoy myself and perhaps take a trip somewhere since it'll be a 3 year program including summers. Is anyone else starting this summer or fall and have you had your orientations yet?

Congratulations. I wish my orientation would hurry up and get here but it's not until June 15th. I have so many questions and wish I could start buying my books now. But, I'm learning that patience is incredibly important for this journey.

I also start a BSN program this Fall :) I'm with rubato...except my orientation isn't until August 24th (and we start the following Monday)! I have been trying to find nursing students ahead of me for advice because I am not sure where to start.

Congratulations on getting into nursing school and good luck!!!

Congrats to you guys!! My orientation is in July with ADN program starting August 20th! My institute pretty much has given us all needed information so Im kind of curious as to what will be discussed this session. I hope that they gives us freebies though :) GOOD LUCK EVERYONE!

Congrats! What exactly did they discuss in your orientation? Our orientation for the BSN program is like Robyn's..not until late August. I won't know my schedule or books till then either.

Thanks everyone! shellbie3j My orientation gave us some free lanyards and they raffled off a lot of things like textbooks, 2 free school uniforms, and even a stethoscope, none of which I won but oh well. staceym Thanks! They gave us a student guidebook with all of the policies about grading, making classes, the nursing model our program follows etc. We went over some things but not all since they said we could read the whole thing ourselves. They also gave us important dates such as when we need to have all of our immunizations required for clinicals, background checks and drug screens, purchase our uniforms and when we need to have a physical done. They also gave us a curriculum guide showing us what classes we will be taking each semester and even had two current students come by to discuss the program and answer any questions we had. We will also have another orientation in August to discuss things like APA formatting for papers and more program specific things. Since my program is a regular BSN program, my course load during my first two years won't be as heavy since I completed all of my general education requirements from my first bachelor's degree so that was good information to know too!

Aw, congrats! You're so lucky to have your orientation so early for a program that starts in the fall. My BSN orientation is one week long and isn't until August 20th! I know part of my orientation involves practicing basic vitals in the nursing labs :) I work in a hospital too so I'm hoping my CPR, immunizations, and whatever requirements I already have will just transfer over, just like yours. Keep us updated!

Thats just awesome!!! Free stuff? most of the programs here in central florida all the nursing stuff and uniforms they say you gotta purchase them yourself. I can't wait for my admission to complete processing my transcripts so I can apply to the nursing program....i on it check it daily, sometimes hourly.

mplovex Thank you! I don't know if I would have been able to wait any longer for my orientation. I would imagine you have everything you need already since you work in a hospital, just make sure you get a hold of your employee health department to get all the copies you need. man-nurse2b I only got a free lanyard but some other people won textbooks, two students won a free uniform and one person even won a stethoscope. I hope your transcripts get processed soon!

Congrats to everyone. I start RN school this Fall and I have a pre-orientation to go to this month. Yes, we have a "pre" one. lol My actual orientation will start closer to when school starts, I'm guessing late Summer.

Congratulations!!!! I was alternate #9 for my schools BSN program and I was accepted this week. My orientation isn't until August 17 and I start the following week.

Our orientation for the BSN program is like Robyn's..not until late August. I won't know my schedule or books till then either.

Wow, I thought our school was so behind!! Our orientation was last week and they are keeping the syllabus and book list as a secret until "sometime" in July. I know that from the previous semester, there is a math review and about 6 chapters to be read in fundamentals but you would THINK that they would give us the information at LEAST in June to give time to do all this reading and studying even before classes start on Aug 28.

I dont like how programs keep everything a big secret for first semester Nursing. I think they do that on purpose. It's just not fair :sniff:
