My first cat was diabetic. The first time I drew up his insulin, I look over my shoulder for someone to double check the dose.

I had to show it to the cat before I could give it! Took me several doses before I broke the habit of looking for a double check.

SCTravelRN,

I drive my family INSANE with the medical shows!! Or even X files with Scully. They REFUSE to watch any medical shows with me - either that or I am WARNED BEFOREHAND to not spoil it for them!! Sigh.

Specializes in Case mgmt., rehab, (CRRN), LTC & psych.
Someone else may have said this, but looking for IV sites on everyone, everywhere...:-)
Yes! In public, I'm secretly looking at strangers' arms to see how 'juicy' the veins in their arms happen to be. :)

I was standing in line at the pharmacy of my local WalMart last week, sick as a dog waiting to get my feel better medicine, and no lie, I heard a wound vac beeping and couldn't pinpoint from where. I took two rushed steps before I stopped myself realizing that I was definitely not at work and that definitely wasn't my patient.

Asking my hair dresser friend how many more "patients" she has to see today.

This was my sister, not me, but when she started working night shift in a pediatric facility with mostly trached kids, the sound of her puggle's snorty breathing would wake her out of a sound sleep, thinking she had to suction someone.

Specializes in MICU/CCU, SD, home health, neo, travel.

Always checking out someone's veins for a possible stick or IV site...still do it even though I'm retired!

My kiddo vomited and I did a full assessment on her. But I still say I did right when I did Q2 Neuro checks on my SO after he passed out at work and hit his head.

Specializes in retired LTC.

I always upend the lids from various cans, bottles, jars, etc when I open them. Keeping things 'clean'.

Even my college chemistry professor commented that he guessed I was a nurse because all the nurses in his classes did the bottles & jars that way.

Specializes in Hospice, corrections, psychiatry, rehab, LTC.

This is ancient history, but I digress. When I was in nursing school, I was still working in an office job. Much to the bewilderment of the poor office staff who were typing my reports, without thinking I began to insert medical jargon and symbols into my handwritten documents. "What is this S with a line over it?"
