Group One background checks in Texas

U.S.A. Texas

I have been put into group one, which is a reporting agency that allows other healthcare facilitys to see why I was terminated. I was not given a chance to resign before termination. My question is, can I request to have it changed? Is this a type of discrimination? all this is making me want to get out of healthcare all together, seems like i will allways have a disadvantage being a guy and all.

Boy this whole story sucks in a major way. You can't get a job because of a renewal fee and Janine Jones can kill an unknown amount of babies in the NICU for funsies and leave out of the front door with a letter of rec in her pocket to go on and do it again. THAT was also in TX. Just proves that they only care about their bottom line and NOT patient care.

I just got Group One'd and I'm trying to fight it. I called the BNE yesterday 4/2/09 and they told me they hadn't ever heard of this. I spoke to two different people??? If you still have the lawyer's name I be grateful if you would send it to me-I know it's been awhile since you wrote this. I worked for Parkland for 12 long years and this was the outcome.

Your dealing with Group One is an employment issue. The Board of Nursing deals only with licensure issues. They are two separate things and that's why you didn't get anywhere calling the BON.

You can dispute what is on your Group One. I don't know if it's in this thread or not, but I know I've seen it. Have you contacted Group One to get a copy of your report?

Good luck to you.

Unless your nursing license has been referred to the BNE and/or charges have been filed, the BNE cannot and will not assist you with issues regarding GroupOne. The Texas BNE exists to protect the public, NOT THE NURSES who serve the public.

Your next step would be to utilize the Fair Credit Reporting Act in order to clean up whatever discrepancies might linger on your GroupOne file. Good luck to you!

Also, try an AN search for 'group one' and you should be able to find a post where one member explained how he got off the blacklist.

The only way you can have legal recourse is to prove malice (hint)

"The DFW Hospital Association controls DFW nurses with a very heavy hand and a very long memory of ANY supposed wrongdoing that a manager or HR wants to submit, many for vindictive purposes"

...and I can't help but blame those healthcare employees that are only too willing to tolerate this because it is a paycheck.

If it weren't for them the rest of us could boycott these hospitals right out of business - how could they stay open without staff?

I for one would never knowingly apply to one of the group one member agencies.

The only problem is that every single hospital in and around Dallas and Fort Worth is a member of GroupOne. Even the outlying hospitals in places such as Denton are GroupOne members. Many of the nursing homes and LTCFs have decided to utilize GroupOne.

Therefore, you have very few employment options at your disposal if you're a nurse in DFW who refuses to apply to facilities who are members of GroupOne.

Maybe so, but it wouldn't take too long for the hospitals to get the idea - how can they make their precious "bottom line" without nurses? Of course it would take a concerted effort on the part of ALL local nurses & they certainly couldn't afford to staff with all agency nurses for very long. Just my 2 cents - there is no such thing as a perfect world, sad to say. :scrying:

I used to live in Dallas and saw many co-workers blacklisted by Group One.

They all still got jobs in the DFW area in non-hospital settings like dialysis centers, outpatient surgery centers, and yes even nursing homes. They didn't become unemployable in DFW altogether.

So DFW nurses could successfully boycott all facilities that subscribe to Group One. Too many are just not willing to give up their current positions and don't really seem to care about it until it happens to them.

Same thing with many other issues in nursing. No nurse should ever take a job in ICU that has a 3:1 ratio or any med/surg position that has a 7 or 8:1 ratio. Obviously there are nurses who can be bought for the right price (and often a low one at that) to tolerate these things. Look at the Rio Grande Valley area alone.

Hospitals cannot run without nurses.

Your posting gave a lot of information. It is now my understanding that Parkland and Baylor health system are not using Group One. Someone give me additional information if I am wrong please.
