Hello allJust wanted to introduce myself here.
My name is Jaimee, and I am a brand-new grad. I just completed my preceptorship this past Thursday, and my official graduation date is the 28th of this month.
I will be working full-time on a neuro step-down unit, beginning next month.
We currently live in California but are moving to Missouri next year. We just purchased a horse farm in Rogersville and plan to move next June or July.
I was quite disheartened to learn of the wage differences between CA and MO, and I just posted a big rambling note here on another topic area. But, the lifestyle in MO is what we want..and money isn't everything, right?? Right?? :)

Nice to meet you Jaimee! Congrats on graduation! My husband lived in CA for several years. He has said a time or 2 that he wasn't in the right tax bracket to make it in CA long term.
I am glad he moved back or I never would have met him! Wages may be less here, but the cost of living is also less. I think it probably evens out. Tho wouldn't it be nice to make CA wages here with a lesser cost of living?
That would be great! Best wishes on your move and your horse farm! Love, Jennifer

Looking for a change in Nursing direction...usually work in hospital, oncology (charge), med/surg, well all non-specialty floors with float pool as it usually pays better. Now considering hospice? home health? or new specialty like ICU or ER...I don't know we will see...

Cindy,
I have to say that I am a manager of 5 dialysis clinics and 5 acute hospital programs and we need nurses. We have spent thousands of dollars on advertisement but not much luck. Maybe the area that you are in has no openings but St. Louis has plenty. Still looking for a few good nurses.
Hello! The job market in Missouri is pretty sad right now. Oh sure there are tons of traveling jobs or contract jobs but only in speciality areas like CCU or Med Surg. I am specialized in Psych and I will tell you that there is nothing available in my area. I know that KC has a huge hospital "Western Missouri" that has psych and there is a Two Rivers Hospital that deals with only psych in KC. Otherwise you have to go to St. Louis to find positions in psych. I wish you all the best in finding a position for you. I have done all kinds of psych in Missouri but most of the places that I have worked for, have closed down. I know of other places but they are pretty far away from KC.
