Members are discussing the accreditation and acceptance of BSN and MSN degrees from GCU in different states, particularly focusing on the requirement of a preceptorship for BSN programs. There are concerns about certain states not accepting GCU BSN degrees, while others share experiences with the capstone course and offer tips for scholarly activities. Additionally, there is mention of GCU transitioning back to a non-profit status and the impact of this change on students.
Howdy all, I bit the bullet and after much research, I decided on Grand Canyon! Wow, I did not expect BSN schools to be like used car salesmen--hounding me by emails and phone calls. Rather impressed on how Grand Canyon sort of left me alone, but at the same time kept in touch.
Commence my first class Sept 30th, excited, yet very nervous, as I'm not a big fan of school, LOL! I did extremely well on my Associate degree, graduated back in 2009 from Northern Virginia Community College. We shall see.
Would love to hear from past and present Grand Canyon RN to BSN students.
gikg - If you already have a good job, there is no reason to push yourself. Just take it class by class. I will be losing my health insurance in July when my divorce is final, so I need to finish ASAP and get a real job before then. I have been able to enjoy working per diem for the last 9 years, but those days are numbered.
I am sorry to hear that. I do have a job full time but is not what I want. I work in a subacute facility and I really want hospital. That was the main reason why I enrolled into a BSN program. Pretty soon we will all be done!!
I graduated from GCU in early August. I had a great experience. It is very time-consuming and you write a lot of papers but you learn so much in return. Just as at any other university, there are a few bad apples in the teaching pool. I was lucky enough I didn't get any of them. But my friend had a horrid time with a couple of hers. Check them out before you start the class. I can give you who I had if you email me or PM me.
gikg your PM box is full and it won't except my PM about instructors

Again??! Sorry about that. I clear it up now. Do you mind send it again? Thanks

Could you send me the email as well. I would like to read any suggestions to help get through GCU. I am doing well, but always listen to advice from others that have been there, done that.
thank you.
Hello all. I just started at GCU, any tips? Please PM me any advice, like which instructors to take, which ones not to take... ECT. I've only taken the 1st class, which did not seem that bad. My wife and I are both attending the RN-BSN program, we both work full time and raise a 2 year old and 3 year old boy... with another boy due any day now. Wish us luck (fingers crossed).

Well WELCOME!!! :hrns&wlcm:
Wow if you both can do it with the kiddos and another on the way :bowingpur:, then my "whine-cred" just went out the window! I have none of that and sometimes I want to crawl in a hole! Are you both in the same class and tackling them together? You two on the fast-track doing back-to-back classes or are you taking breaks in between?
Regarding "any tips?", honestly between this and the other thread (https://allnurses.com/nursing-online-distance/grand-canyon-rn-793249-page171.html#post8152932), probably much of anything you'd want to know is posted somewhere! We tend to chat a lot (moral support, mostly, to talk ourselves out of jumping off the nearest cliff), but every now and then there is a Pearl of Wisdom that somebody eeks out. And explanations/clarifications of some of the not so understandable assignment descriptions that leave us scratching our noggins, when you run across a good post (Community Health tends to be a big confuser), copy/paste some of those tips into a doc to save in that class folder and you'll be ahead of the game when you get there. Obviously you don't have tons of time on your hands with school and the little ones, but in your spare :rotfl: moments, backtrack a little through these 2 threads, I guarantee it's a worthy and interesting read!
Feel free to ask away!

Hello and welcome!
Are you taking the same instructors too? Try to get in the same clc if you can. That's half the battle.

Like PrismRN said above, you are He Man! I couldn't imagine how sleep deprived you and your wife are.......
Oh, and hello!
Welcome Drodri555! I am in my second class at GCU so I am just beginning this journey. Read the two threads mentioned above and you will find valuable information from former and current students. Best of luck to you and your wife!
Thanks for the support and tips everyone. I guess I need 15 substantive posts before I can use the PM option. Kind of sounds like I'm in the forum at GCU... lol. The wife and I manage by tag teaming child care duties (one parent watches the kids, one is hammering away papers on the computer), but the way we see it is that its only a little over a year of torture... and yeah, we plan on doing the program straight through, with no breaks.
