Members are discussing the accreditation and acceptance of BSN and MSN degrees from GCU in different states, particularly focusing on the requirement of a preceptorship for BSN programs. There are concerns about certain states not accepting GCU BSN degrees, while others share experiences with the capstone course and offer tips for scholarly activities. Additionally, there is mention of GCU transitioning back to a non-profit status and the impact of this change on students.
Howdy all, I bit the bullet and after much research, I decided on Grand Canyon! Wow, I did not expect BSN schools to be like used car salesmen--hounding me by emails and phone calls. Rather impressed on how Grand Canyon sort of left me alone, but at the same time kept in touch.
Commence my first class Sept 30th, excited, yet very nervous, as I'm not a big fan of school, LOL! I did extremely well on my Associate degree, graduated back in 2009 from Northern Virginia Community College. We shall see.
Would love to hear from past and present Grand Canyon RN to BSN students.
Note to self, do not, I repeat do not read PrismRNs comments with food or drink in mouth, unless you like a nose enema of said product!
CATS IN JELL-O....your killin' me girl! ROFLOL!!!!
I'm debating whether is worth it to double up classes to finish 5 weeks earlier. I'm afraid I will set up my self to fail if I do that. Grrrr
I never doubled up, but I don't think you would fail. Would you be busy? Yeah, lol, but some seem to succeed at it. For only 5 weeks early, for ME it would not be worth it. I understand how it feels to be so close. You just want it done and over with.

I'm not going to do this. For ME, I know that the doubled 5 weeks would cause so much stress that I'd spend my "saved" 5 weeks in the hospital on an Ativan gtt.
Just started my third week and already decided that I am not going to double up. I now think "what is the desire to finish 5 weeks early?" I am lucky that I will continue. Classes are taking a lot of my time. Plus I have had a couple busy weeks at work, which has worn me out.

It takes a few classes to get your groove and learning to juggle school, work and family.
You can do this!!
Ethics: Heck to the NO (crazy 2-part CLC that is like wrangling cats in Jell-O).

LOL SOOOOO true!!!
I don't think it would be so hard if you had a strong team. In that class there are two individual assignments and two CLC projects. Mine was not so great because one of my group members did the wrong part, then redid her correct part quickly before she left for work. When I read it, it didn't make a whole lot of sense so I basically had to redo her part. I didn't want to her her feelings when she saw that I scrapped 90% of her writing. I think I actually spend way more time on the CLCs than I do on the individual assignments. Maybe that is why there is a week "break" in this class.
Ok - I doubled on Family and Ethics. If I had to do it over, I would double on Family and Assessment. That would be the easiest. Ethics and the 2-part 550 point CLC was NOT my idea of a good time. I loved my Leadership instructor, but hated the class. I think I was so burned out after doubling up that all of my energy was zapped. Also, I have zero desire to get into management, so it was hard to get interested in the topic. Spirituality would also be a good course to double up. Whatever you decide, just know that you will be glued to your computer for 5 weeks with no possibility of a mental break. I will be doubling again (for one week only) on Community Health and Patho. That is only because the first assignment for Patho is an online test that you retake until you pass. PM me if you have any questions.
I think I will leave it as is. I may take a look to see if a double up just for 1 week or 2. But I think the stress may not be worth just to finish 1 month early. Grrrr it is so hard to decide. Now I am definitely regretting taking 4 months off in the summer. Although I definitely needed at that time.
Four months off sounds heavenly! I just keep telling myself that in less than 6 months I will be done. After that just working will feel like a permanent vacation.
After having those 4 montes off I now had a taste what a life of a nurse without school feels like - amazing. I actually had a day off. In fact I had 4 days off each week. Sometimes even 6 between my 3s in a row. I am definitely not taking more breaks as I DO want this to be over and go back to only working. That was the only reason why I thought in doubling it up but I guess I will go slowly but steady.
