Members are discussing the accreditation and acceptance of BSN and MSN degrees from GCU in different states, particularly focusing on the requirement of a preceptorship for BSN programs. There are concerns about certain states not accepting GCU BSN degrees, while others share experiences with the capstone course and offer tips for scholarly activities. Additionally, there is mention of GCU transitioning back to a non-profit status and the impact of this change on students.
Howdy all, I bit the bullet and after much research, I decided on Grand Canyon! Wow, I did not expect BSN schools to be like used car salesmen--hounding me by emails and phone calls. Rather impressed on how Grand Canyon sort of left me alone, but at the same time kept in touch.
Commence my first class Sept 30th, excited, yet very nervous, as I'm not a big fan of school, LOL! I did extremely well on my Associate degree, graduated back in 2009 from Northern Virginia Community College. We shall see.
Would love to hear from past and present Grand Canyon RN to BSN students.
Refresh my brain. What is 433? I only went by names :)
SO how are you doing with your classes? I started in May 2014 & about to start 433v next week...wondering who is a good teacher? Any pointers about the class?instructors??
TOKMOM was saying that when you start a new class on Monday, enter the class usually the Friday before and look over all the requirements under the "announcements" section and you can usually tell if they are unreasonable through that. DO NOT POST anything and get out of that class. You can get another instructor.
Wow I read some of the thread regarding GCU being in the bottom of the Grand Canyon.....hilarious! I feel like I am dealing with the same kind of people in my assigned group. I read the assignment post from the instructor which spelled everything out for us, yet I find myself repeating all this info to my group members. The entire thing is complete chaos, and all we are doing is filling out the CLC agreement. I pretty much did it all myself to make sure it was done. I feel like at least half my class cannot put a simple sentence together, and I am talking about the assignment we are to turn in not the forum. Seriously, no capitalization, no punctuation, no nothing. I find myself looking forward to writing papers, and that means the situation is dire. Also, our instructor hasn't posted anything for over 48 hours. She hasn't answered anyone's questions. I contacted GCU and they are going to investigate. They said that is totally against policy and they will make sure the issue is taken care of. Did anyone else have an instructor that was MIA?
I had an instructor that was MIA, but she had a very sick daughter and kind of disappeared after the first week. She would pop in now and then to grade things, but for the most part was pretty distracted with her family crisis. I got 1000/1000 in that class, so NO complaints from me!

Actually yes. She was in the Reserves, or something that went to disasters. She posted her intro and showed the next day. Suddenly, she was gone! On day three, we had a new instructor. One I had prior, so I was happy, lol.
As for that clc, I really do think people throw crap together because they believe the editor will edit.
Those of you that are at the end do you mind sharing with us how heavy on papers, CLC, and level difficulty and work for each of the following classes. I am thinking in double up some so that I can finish early and don't end up creating more work that I can handle.
Ethical
Spirituality
Leadership and management
Pathophys and nursing management
Trends
Professional research project (I'm assuming this is the capstone).
Thanks!!

Noodles is probably the best to answer this because she's done it. I haven't had Trends or Leadership or Patho yet but here's my :
Can't double PRP (you're correct, that's the Capstone).
Pathophys I wouldn't, unless you're already a microbiologist or a Medical Examiner or something LOL. Plus I heard the DQs are like mini-assignments on their own.
Ethics: Heck to the NO (crazy 2-part CLC that is like wrangling cats in Jell-O).
I'm in Spirituality now, no CLC, not too bad on the paper heaviness, the DQs are pretty simple.
Trends: has a CLC, if that matters to you.
Leadership: no CLC.
Probably trends and leadership are your best bets. Patho has some nasty little dq that are worth 20 pts. Doable but long, and the clc isn't difficult, just time consuming and you find yourself looking up meds, etc.
Spirituality and ethics, but only if you don't have to wrangle kitty's in Jello, lol. Spirituality is fairly paper heavy.
Capstone, no freaking way even if you could. You need both trends and leadership imo too complete the capstone. It's insanely paper heavy (as it should be).
Ok thanks everyone. So I guess I could try trends and leadership. I will see if I can. Any suggestions on good teachers? Please PM me if you do ?.

The stat book sucks. I was hoping for more direction and examples. But it doesn't deliver.
