Grand Canyon University RN to BSN Reviews

What Members Are Saying (AI-Generated Summary)

Members are discussing the accreditation and acceptance of BSN and MSN degrees from GCU in different states, particularly focusing on the requirement of a preceptorship for BSN programs. There are concerns about certain states not accepting GCU BSN degrees, while others share experiences with the capstone course and offer tips for scholarly activities. Additionally, there is mention of GCU transitioning back to a non-profit status and the impact of this change on students.

Howdy all, I bit the bullet and after much research, I decided on Grand Canyon! Wow, I did not expect BSN schools to be like used car salesmen--hounding me by emails and phone calls. Rather impressed on how Grand Canyon sort of left me alone, but at the same time kept in touch.

Commence my first class Sept 30th, excited, yet very nervous, as I'm not a big fan of school, LOL! I did extremely well on my Associate degree, graduated back in 2009 from Northern Virginia Community College. We shall see.

Would love to hear from past and present Grand Canyon RN to BSN students.

Hello,

Today is the first day of my first class at GCU. I am up to page 27 of this thread. I figured I had better post something so I can get my 15 post quota taken are of. Thanks to all of you for your advice on this thread!

Since we are speaking of the capstone project, in previous posts people state that they put all their papers together and edit it for submission. Is this a paper or project that shows your growth over the year or is it based on a single topic? Should all my papers over this year be about the same or similar topics so that they can be combined into a cohesive paper?

Because I am just starting out, this is something I may want to plan for.

Specializes in UR/CM, Managed Care.

No. Your capstone is one topic that you choose and write about during the capstone class. Each week you turn in part of the paper and the professor grades it. You get your paper back and edit what was marked wrong. You take THOSE papers and blend them into one. It's tricky because you can overlap in the papers, so culling repetitive information will need to be completed.

What you can do, however, is start thinking about a topic of interest especially after research because that class teaches you what to look for and they encourage you at that time to start thinking ahead.

I'd have to count, but I think, with these 4 weeks submitted, I am up to about 23 pages total. But, I have yet to do the abstract and such!

That's not bad at all. My lit review was a very large portion of my paper. I hated that thing! By the time you toss in everything else, wrap up your references etc. I bet you will be in the high twenties.

How does it feel to be almost done?? :)

SO how are you doing with your classes? I started in May 2014 & about to start 433v next week...wondering who is a good teacher? Any pointers about the class?instructors??

Specializes in Psychiatric.

So what is up with statistics??? I'm looking at these 2 exercises from the workbook that need to be completed for week 1, and are pretty much written in Greek as far as I'm concerend. The only resources I can find listed in the classroom are the 9 pages from the text were are supposed to read, which doesn't cover all the questions in the exercises. Am I missing something??
