Members are discussing the accreditation and acceptance of BSN and MSN degrees from GCU in different states, particularly focusing on the requirement of a preceptorship for BSN programs. There are concerns about certain states not accepting GCU BSN degrees, while others share experiences with the capstone course and offer tips for scholarly activities. Additionally, there is mention of GCU transitioning back to a non-profit status and the impact of this change on students.
Howdy all, I bit the bullet and after much research, I decided on Grand Canyon! Wow, I did not expect BSN schools to be like used car salesmen--hounding me by emails and phone calls. Rather impressed on how Grand Canyon sort of left me alone, but at the same time kept in touch.
Commence my first class Sept 30th, excited, yet very nervous, as I'm not a big fan of school, LOL! I did extremely well on my Associate degree, graduated back in 2009 from Northern Virginia Community College. We shall see.
Would love to hear from past and present Grand Canyon RN to BSN students.
Did I mention I am in week 5 of community and public health and i turned in all assignments last night?!? sweet...i have a few days to myself and my family before the horrific STATs begins...wish me luck!!!! so far i have an A in community & public health...just need week 5 graded. yipee!
Get used to them. BTW....I have horror stories, in fact all of us probably do. I'm looking at one right now that is making me nervous as a cat on a hot tin roof. I feel like something is not going to go down right on this one. I so hope I am wrong. You will learn to do your part and someone else's it is just easier in the long run. I had one that wanted me (doing PPT) to do more slides than her, even though the only job she had was making assignments. I said no. The week came she handed in a commercial for her slide, I said not happening...no response, I emailed...nada, I texted....finally a response...that was her input. Sad thing (but good for me), I googled her slide the first article was a hit, took me 20 minutes to do the thing. Sheer laziness, and a lack of caring. These people know that there are those of us out there (who sit at the virtual cool table) that will pull their irons out of the fire because we would NEVER allow a poor project! Did someone say rant?
OMG, YES!! TRUE SLACKERS and they don't give a crap because they know that 3 of the 4 will do the job and pull THEM through! :hlk:

Those few days of sweetness feel wonderful, don't they? I would make my life a living hell week 1-4 and week 5 just do my DQ. It gave me a mini respite from GCU

Unfortunately, I've been doing this backwards lately. I've been taking my mini respite at the beginning of the week. If you get into the backwards routine like I have, Fri-Sun is a mindboggling slamfest with DQ2, two replies F,S,S, and of course project/paper Sat/Sun. By Sunday @ MN I'm fried, and then the workweek starts first thing the next morning. My job stinks at the beginning of the week, it's all I can do to get through M-Th with work (straying only to do DQ1 @ 2300 on Wed night). So, here it is, Thursday night, haven't done squat, work is finally winding down to a slower fury, and now I get to start on school! YAY! I'm so tired
whaaa.

whaaa.
Work rather complicates matters.
Kudos that you can cram so much into a short period of time only to do it again so soon!
Had anyone seen flames around AN?
Our instructor didn't post for 3 days. I contacted GCU and they started a ticket. She finally responded this afternoon and said we need to do the whole thing ourselves. Really Nice since I work Sunday and the other person that's helping works all weekend. So this is what I'm in for huh? Guess I will start facebook stalking.

WHAT? So if I understood this and your last post, you're trying to do the nursing theorist powerpoint, yes? And it's due Sunday, and out of your group of 6 - 2 are missing, 2 don't get it, and the other 2 are supposed to do the entire thing for the other 4 and just turn it in with your two names on it? This was the solution? Rather than her contacting the students directly (via individual forum) as mine have done in the past? I don't know what was said, but pretty speedy those MIA ppl showed up and had their parts ready to go. What about all those Announcement posts from instructors that have their cell phone numbers & email contact info and they alway say "I'm here to help you succeed!" ? I've had my share of ridiculous CLC members, but I've never had an apathetic instructor to the point that they just basically said, "oh well, do it yourself then". Those other 4 people better get an F on this assignment! :angthts:
I might be tempted to send out 4 texts that say... "Got a reply from the instructor, if you don't have your finished part into the forum by 8pm Saturday the project reverts to me & so-n-so only, your name will be removed from the title slide and you will get an F for the CLC. Thought you might want to know."
I have to say I'm a little (lot) shocked at this development. I'm so sorry this is happening to you, I wish there was something we could do
Yes it is the theory power point. Here's a little more detail. I'll change the names to protect the innocent, and the stupid. So the one other person in my group, I'll call her my Boo, did her part early in the week, and now she works Sat, Sun. I haven't heard from her since Thursday but that's not her fault. She said she'd check in from work so I am praying she does. Then we have Confused and Superconfused. Confused did her slides early, but she basically cut and pasted from the book and put the same minimum info on the slides and speaker notes without citing. It as taken me multiple posts, most of which I don't think she read, to get her to the point where she has cut and pasted a little more info in the speaker notes and it is cited, but not per APA giudelines. She argued the whole way with me that she didn't have to cite, but the instructor straightened her out yesterday. She sent me a message late last night saying health and person aren't defined in the theory so I can't say more. I replied trying to explain it to her AGAIN, but no response this morning. She doesn't comprehend "in your own words". Superconfused started a new power point file and sent us one slide that has nothing to do with our theory, has no notes or citation, and is the wrong back round and format. She posted a message late last night saying she was posting another file, but nothing was attached. I replied, but no new messages from her this morning. As for MIA1 and MIA2, MIA1 posted in the DQ forum last night, but still hasn't contacted the group. MIA2 hasn't posted anywhere since Wed. As for our instructor, she originally said she would try to contact them, didn't say how, and that we had to wait til it was 24 hours before it's due, then drop MIA1 and 2 from the project and divide the rest and do it ourselves. After explaining that the 2 of us that are capable of getting the rest done correctly in 24 hours are working, so we'd have to leave it blank, she compromised. She said no matter what we turn in it will be graded as a group, and the missing slides will be part of the total grade for the group. She said just proceed as though MIA1 and 2 are no longer in the group. She gave no instructions on how to handle Superconfused who has still turned in nothing usable. So I did 2 more slides and some editing, posted the instructions to my group again, assigned another slide to my Boo, and spelled out for Superconfused exactly what to do.
So here I am wondering how long to wait for someone to post some work. I have to be up at 5am Sun and Mon for work so I can't wait much longer. I'm on the fence about finishing it myself. I may just give up and submit with missing info. If it affects my total grade I will dispute it. Per my guidance counselor my grade should not reflect the incompetence of other.
Sorry for the long post, but it felt to good to vent to people who understand that I couldn't help myself.

Maybe I'm "MegaConfused", but this sounds like people will get the same grade as everyone else no matter what effort they contributed to the project? If this is the case, why would anyone ever do their part if they could not even submit and still reap the reward of the grade?
Just keep posting stuff in the forum with the forethought that someone may be going over it later (if you appeal your grade). They'll want to see clear communication and that you gave it your best shot (trying to elicit cooperation from others). I've gone so far as to say, "I've texted you for 3 days and haven't heard back", just so whomever may read/evaluate it later would know that I even tried other means of communication.
So your ethical dilemma now is: Leave things blank and take a big grade hit (but get some sleep for the benefit of your patients tomorrow), or you & Boo do it all and 4 other fools get an free A for taking the week off (plus you're wasted tomorrow at work because you didn't sleep).
Honestly kyra, you totally win on the CLC nightmare story. Dang! :nmbrn:
Yay I finally won something!!!!!
So if you're Megaconfused, I want to be Supertickedoff. I have posted new messages today and will do so later in the day for the benefit of the person who may read it later. At this point I am so frustrated I refuse to do anymore than post new messages. There is no way I am going to do the work of 4 missing and confused people so they can get an A. I am going to take the grade hit and see what happens. I will also be posting a message to the instructor explaining the lack of help being the reason for incomplete work in the individual forum for the person who may review this later. I am really floored that the majority of my group are lazy and don't care. I did find 2 of them on FB. I sent MIA2 a message star=ting she was dropped from the project, and to confused I requested she do some more work or we will have an incomplete project. I AM DONE!
