Grand Canyon University RN to BSN Reviews

Howdy all, I bit the bullet and after much research, I decided on Grand Canyon! Wow, I did not expect BSN schools to be like used car salesmen--hounding me by emails and phone calls. Rather impressed on how Grand Canyon sort of left me alone, but at the same time kept in touch.

Commence my first class Sept 30th, excited, yet very nervous, as I'm not a big fan of school, LOL! I did extremely well on my Associate degree, graduated back in 2009 from Northern Virginia Community College. We shall see.

Would love to hear from past and present Grand Canyon RN to BSN students.

Wow MIA2 just sent posted a message calling us type As and stating she worked all week. I can not believe the nerve. Like you can just skate by all week and then expect to put your name on it? Seriously????? Type A? How about type being responsible. Like I don't have a job or kids or a million other things I am juggling? I am livid!

Don't you just love how people think the rest of us are just sitting around with nothing except school going on. We just had a member in our CLC state how busy she is and wanted to switch up some of the work the majority of the group already agreed on while she was too busy to check in. That pretty much got squashed quickly by 3 of us and she is agreeable (thank goodness!). As a common courtesy wouldn't you check in and say, hey I'm working the next couple days but will have my portion complete by such and such day?

I am not a procrastinator and tend to freak out when my grade depends on others who wait til last minute. It's really not that difficult to just check in and say you know what's going on and are on board. Rude people kill me

Unfortunately, I've been doing this backwards lately. I've been taking my mini respite at the beginning of the week. If you get into the backwards routine like I have, Fri-Sun is a mindboggling slamfest with DQ2, two replies F,S,S, and of course project/paper Sat/Sun. By Sunday @ MN I'm fried, and then the workweek starts first thing the next morning. My job stinks at the beginning of the week, it's all I can do to get through M-Th with work (straying only to do DQ1 @ 2300 on Wed night). So, here it is, Thursday night, haven't done squat, work is finally winding down to a slower fury, and now I get to start on school! YAY! :banghead: I'm so tired :angrybird9: :angrybird3: whaaa.

It's like I'm looking in a mirror :whistling:

Wellllll lemme tell you how that backfired on me... obviosuly I'm so tired that my math is even faulty:

I did DQ1 at 2300 Wed. DQ2 @ 2300 Fri (right around the time I was writing that little message up there on AN). Then I started going through other students' replies to pick some out to reply to to get my participation going. I grabbed a few of them, put them in a Word doc & started crafting my tantazingly superb responses. I wrote, tweaked, spell-checked, and generally just rocked them out...until...I realized it was 12:01am! AUGHACK! :banghead: so if you're with me on the math/timing here, that only leaves me with the opportunity to do Sat & Sun; 2d instead of the required 3d for participation. I lost a whole day there somewhere? All I could think of, as I was repeatedly smacking myself in the forehead, was rob sitting there, patiently waiting, smoking his cigar, with his replies already done & in draft mode, just waiting for someone to post something so he could click away that baby and be done with it. I mean c'mon, how long have I been doing this? I couldn't quickly discern the fact that I had to have two of those in before MN? I must be so tired. The hubster has started beginning all of his sentences lately with, "no, don't you remember I told you...(insert whatever I forgot here)?" I gotta get it together man. Jeez.

...and yes, it's not lost on me that the time that I spent typing that post on AN Friday night was time I should've spent doing 2 DQs... dang this AN! :x3:

I have waited until the last minute to complete my Week 2 project in Assessment - Children's Functional Health Pattern Assessment. Now I am confused. Do I need to post a reference in EACH box or can I post the references at the end? Also, where is this information supposed to come from? The assignment says to use the text, but the text for this class doesn't have the info. Just another normal day in the GCU world of messed up instructions! I'm guessing most of the info will come from my text for Family. We did a functional health assessment there so I will try that book instead. Any tips right now would be much appreciated. Thanks!

And Yes - I have a good reason for waiting until the last minute! 3 nights in Vegas in a penthouse suite with new awesome BF :inlove:. Went hiking in Red Rock Canyon, toured the Hoover Dam, saw the Titanic exhibit and the Bodies exhibit at the Luxor, toured the Mob Museum, and saw Rock of Ages at the Venetian. This was a MUCH needed getaway. Now I get to play catch-up. Wish me luck. :wacky:

kyra1271, I bet your CLC members were in my group twice. I've been through that and it was hell. I had an early week (MTW overnight shifts) schedule, wasn't alive until Friday and had to cram everything in. I had submissions that were missing citations, had way wrong citations, slides that were no where near the correct topic (how do you do that??), references that made no sense whatsoever, incorrect spelling, bad grammar, and members MIA in a big way....all of it- in two classes! I'm astounded by the lack of work ethic. I posted multiple times per day in the group forum starting on Thursday after having made it clear in the beginning of the class that that would unfortunately be the case. Then I'd spend the whole weekend finishing my DQ work and editing the project. Thankfully both of my instructors saw who the problems were and they were graded accordingly. I suspect one of the instructors contacted the MIA people because they showed up Saturday night, after their work was done already. That same instructor said clearly in their comments that the work was unequally done and individual grades were going to reflect it.

In THAT project we were given an extension. One of the members kept messaging me, both on my phone and online, to hurry up and submit because it was fine. I read through that person's references and information and found several, multiple sentence direct quotes without citation. She'd completely copied and pasted whole sections of her speakernotes. I told her plagiarized work was not getting submitted. She refused to correct it so I did. I submitted the ppt by noon on Monday even though we had a day or two extension. The harassment started about midnight the night before.

Yeah, I HATE CLC work.

I'm not sure why, maybe I am really slow, but that assignment took me a looong time to complete. I think I spent 10-12 hours on it. It was just tedious.

I posted a reference in each box, but I know others that just referenced the sources at the end. I found the info in the Health Promotion Throughout Life Span textbook, the Physical Examination and Health Assessment textbook, and a small amount from my maternal-child book from nursing school.

Well that stinks. Maybe it will be overlooked...one can only hope.

I think I spent fifteen months in a haze. I didn't remember anything! Tell hubby you will be normal after the capstone, lol.
