Grand Canyon University RN to BSN Reviews

Howdy all, I bit the bullet and after much research, I decided on Grand Canyon! Wow, I did not expect BSN schools to be like used car salesmen--hounding me by emails and phone calls. Rather impressed on how Grand Canyon sort of left me alone, but at the same time kept in touch.

Commence my first class Sept 30th, excited, yet very nervous, as I'm not a big fan of school, LOL! I did extremely well on my Associate degree, graduated back in 2009 from Northern Virginia Community College. We shall see.

Would love to hear from past and present Grand Canyon RN to BSN students.

I'm not sure why, maybe I am really slow, but that assignment took me a looong time to complete. I think I spent 10-12 hours on it. It was just tedious.

I posted a reference in each box, but I know others that just referenced the sources at the end. I found the info in the Health Promotion Throughout Life Span textbook, the Physical Examination and Health Assessment textbook, and a small amount from my maternal-child book from nursing school.

I didn't put one I each box, just at the end.

As for the book, there is an assessment book that was a link itself within my books. We were directed to go there and use that book for the assessment.

Thanks! I feel like I am on the right track. I should be done by midnight - LOL !!!

This assessment was very tedious. My computer crashed during this course and Best Buy saved everything but a PowerPoint and this assessment. It was torture having to do it twice.

Wow MIA2 just sent posted a message calling us type As and stating she worked all week. I can not believe the nerve. Like you can just skate by all week and then expect to put your name on it? Seriously????? Type A? How about type being responsible. Like I don't have a job or kids or a million other things I am juggling? I am livid!

LMAO!!! This is great. Not laughing at you, right beside you. If wanting to succeed and completing the required work correctly and on time, then I am proud to be a Type A. Was that supposed to be immature name calling? I think I would have forwarded it to the instructor but it doesn't sound like she would have cared. (Please PM me the name of the instructor, trying to keep records of who we should have for instructors)

Anyway for my first CLC I learned a lot on what to do. First if you do most of the work make sure it is recorded in the group forum. Reminders and requests for information or response is absolutely necessary. I set deadlines for everything and made sure it was agreed to early. Doesn't mean you will get the information or that the information will be usable but at least you are seen as the organizing force for the group.

I didn't have MIA's but 3 produced work that was a direct cut and paste from the textbook and other sources, 1 gave half the required work and a lengthy dissertation that was scattered and not about the nursing theorists, and the final completed her work 2 days past the deadline (and not complete). Thankfully I was running behind because I had to redo the others work so I was able to use some of her work.

I 100% agree with you, and it is not socially acceptable but I can't leave my future grade up to others unless we share the same passion. I feel for you because we all have work, families, and the desire to move forward with our careers and don't need disrespecte because we are responsible and efficient.

keep us updated and vent when necessary....

Take heart everyone. Karma will get them in the capstone. GCU makes sure you put all this information that has been crammed into your brain in the capstone. GCU want's ALL the other pieces of your GCU brain cells, such as power points, pamphlets, and all those nasty lil tidbits these slackers have left to YOU to do in every CLC!

They will not only have to fry their brains typing a mere paper, but have to do complete not ONE, but TWO literature reviews by themselves! For people that want to slack their way through GCU, this is gonna be a killer :hhmth:

You type A's will be used to this pace and will gleefully skip your way through the capstone :dncgbby:

My Boo got on the forum today and gave MIA2 a piece of her mind. I feel better now. Still not looking forward to the grade or having to dispute it.

Okay, learned my painful lesson last week, it's only Monday @ 1500 and I already have 2 DQ replies in for participation! LOL

That was embarrassing. (Me: "um, where did Friday go? Are you sure?") Wow. brainfart.gif

Good, I'm just seeing this now. Sounds like both ways with the quotes works (mine were in the box).

This might be my worst nightmare, only with an assignment. I did have a nightmare the other night...docked 29% on my assignment. I have to tell you I am waiting with baited breath for last weeks assignment to be posted to brush that cobweb out of my brain!

Winterwhite thanks for the PM... ;)...

We are onto our second class, it's been a real challenge with the newborn, who is totally healthy BTW and a 2 year old and 3 year old critter running around. Thank God for California and our employer allowing us 6 weeks of baby bonding at home. Hope all is well with you guys.

Winterwhite... damn, you can be docked THAT much for an assignment?!

Congrats on the new baby! Boy or girl? It is a challenge doing school with work and children, but it is doable. My family didn't see a lot of me except sitting on a couch typing away. Your kids will have you back once you are finished. I justified my time away from them as securing their future so they would continue having a roof over their heads. I'm a primary breadwinner so having a paycheck is very important.

Yes, it isn't uncommon to be docked on a paper by 29%. I had major deductions in spirituality. I was lucky to come out of that class with an A-. Others were not so lucky, they received B's.

Always check the announcements before a class starts. Some instructors will give a ZERO on a paper if you have APA errors. It is at their discretion to give back your paper, so you can repair the damage. Unfortunately, they will automatically take 20% off the second grade leaving a person with a B or C paper. I guess it beats a zero.

If you see this you have two options. Either stay in the class and pray or you can find another instructor. Do NOT post on the forum or introduce yourself. Just quickly back out and call your advisor.
