Howdy all, I bit the bullet and after much research, I decided on Grand Canyon! Wow, I did not expect BSN schools to be like used car salesmen--hounding me by emails and phone calls. Rather impressed on how Grand Canyon sort of left me alone, but at the same time kept in touch.

Commence my first class Sept 30th, excited, yet very nervous, as I'm not a big fan of school, LOL! I did extremely well on my Associate degree, graduated back in 2009 from Northern Virginia Community College. We shall see.

Would love to hear from past and present Grand Canyon RN to BSN students.

LOL I love my girl but I got a little hint of annoyance! I probably drive her crazy. I will send her a gift after this is all over! I got the we shall see response!

There will not be any Prof/Instructor names in these threads, that's a strict no-no. Any info like that would need to go via PM :) We try to stay pretty vague, general, and non-identifiable

OH no thanks then! Thanks for the Heads up!

ACK Nooooooooo! SM is a website that is basically a term paper warehouse. Students from all over submit their papers so they can get free access to view other people's papers. It's a pay-site, but you can still spy the first page or so of someone's paper before it cuts you off. There were times I looked at it just to see what other people did on a particular assignment to see what direction they went to guage my understanding of the assignment description, but eventually I realized that 99.9% of the papers on there were not to my personal standards of academic writing. Also, you have no idea what kind of grade they got on that paper so it's a gamble to use it as an example. Also also, GCU is very aware of that website and frequently sends out emails saying they DO look at these types of sites and reminds that this is a clear violation of University policy - so if one has posted anything there they'd better get it taken down or risk disciplinary action. No thanks! :nailbiting:

Just buy the APA 6th ed book. Many people don't, but I did and that poor thing looks like it went through a tornado (well it kinda did, the GCU `nado!) because I used it so much. There are free APA sites here and there, and zillions of places on the `net that have sample papers (mostly university sites), and of course there's OWL, which is the Gold Standard, but a couple things I found unclear on there so I always went for my book as backup anyway.

I paid more than this, but here it is new for $28.73:

Publication Manual of the American Psychological Association / Edition 6 by American Psychological Association | 9781433805615 | Paperback | Barnes & Noble

I bought the book....opened it once.....found it easier to look online...email the PERRLA people and they replied back quickly......Ifound myself using the same type of references......

I have that book. It was recommended to me by two coworkers/students. When I tossed my GCU stuff after graduation, I kept the book, lol.

I think I win on this one... I once kept my SA on the phone for over an hour as I requested names of Profs and he looked to see if they were teaching when I needed it, and if not, we moved onto the next one. THEN, when I ran out of names, he started throwing out random names of Profs that were teaching the classes & dates I needed, and with each one he offered up I say: "okay, hold on"... (google google google, ratemyprofessor.com, google google google), me: "Um, no, definitely not, who's next?"

Him: "Jim Smith?"

Me: "Hold on..." (google google google) :roflmao:

Now that guy deserved a gift at my graduation!

LOL That's awesome!!! I need to be like that! You're right we are paying and it's super cheap!

My adviser can't even tell me if the class has a group project or not!!! 1 would think they should be able to do that!!!

Which instructors?!!? I now wish I had taken two weeks off before the class I am in now because the instructor is not my favorite! :-/

Could you possibly PM me as well please??

I am in ethics and in the middle of the CLC assignment part 1. Our paper is just over 1400 words but the limit is 1000 words and the instructor warned that we should no go over. Most of the group is frantically trying to edit their part but we just can't get it down much more. How do I tactfully tell the group that we should just hand it in as is because she hasn't been particular with word limits so far and if she does deduct points it will be minor in scope?

She just handed back a paper I wrote and it was over in words but she didn't deduct anything. I want the others to see it my way and just be done with it!!

Interesting dilemma, rob (notice how I worked in `dilemma` there cause you're in Ethics class :roflmao:)...

You, sir, are 100% correct. There is really nowhere to "down-grade" for going over word count on the rubric, which is why you just got a regular ol' grade on your paper. It is more likely that, as your team members try to cut down their words, that they will actually hack up the paper and cut OUT something that IS on the rubric.

I don't know how many, many, many times I cut to stay within the word count and then received Prof comments similar to "could have used a bit more depth on _____ subject, but overall nice paper". HUH? I wanted to give more depth, substance, etc., but you tied my hands! You should've seen the original version!

I think cutting is s slippery slope, I'd leave it as is. They are counting actual words without the title page and references, right? I dunno how you'd say it other than "I'm concerned that we are editing to the point of losing depth in the required areas on the rubric; I recommend we leave well enough alone as what we have now is a substantive paper that currently meets all the gradeable criteria".
