Members are discussing the accreditation and acceptance of BSN and MSN degrees from GCU in different states, particularly focusing on the requirement of a preceptorship for BSN programs. There are concerns about certain states not accepting GCU BSN degrees, while others share experiences with the capstone course and offer tips for scholarly activities. Additionally, there is mention of GCU transitioning back to a non-profit status and the impact of this change on students.
Howdy all, I bit the bullet and after much research, I decided on Grand Canyon! Wow, I did not expect BSN schools to be like used car salesmen--hounding me by emails and phone calls. Rather impressed on how Grand Canyon sort of left me alone, but at the same time kept in touch.
Commence my first class Sept 30th, excited, yet very nervous, as I'm not a big fan of school, LOL! I did extremely well on my Associate degree, graduated back in 2009 from Northern Virginia Community College. We shall see.
Would love to hear from past and present Grand Canyon RN to BSN students.
Flames I missed what class are you in now?
and to top it off, i said i would start AMP 450 today..vice next Monday if i could get a certain prof.... She said I got the prof..sweet....check saturday, class starts today, BUT with a different prof...oh well..... traveling back to Ecuador today
Now sure how hard I can shake my head!! Just had someone use allnurses as a reference in DQ!!
OMG...........!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Wow it's close!!!I would call your SA now and ask to be placed in your Prof's class. Since you're 4 weeks out and classes are 5 weeks long, they should know who is teaching and when. Does your regular class schedule (in portal) have your class listed with a Prof?
You just started Trends today but you start Cap in 4 weeks - are you overlapping your last and first weeks?
See my advisor must suck..she told me the earliest they start assigning profs to classes is 2 weeks out from class start...but 1 week out is the norm!!!

I'm done all the required nursing classes.....just doing the 2 extras I need to get to the min # of credits one requires..Amp 450
Who remembers the first week in Spirituality? Here is my dilemma.....
I planned a 2 week break to start after this week due to being burned out and a small family vacation. I found out that I have been placed in the class with the spirituality instructor that everyone states I must have. Do I take the class and miss the first week (well do the minimum while I am on vacation) or do I take my chances after a couple weeks?
Was there a paper due the first week? I could handle discussion posts (etc) from my hotel room before bed. But on the other hand, I really need a break...
the class has changed since i have taken it......
Yeah, me too; guess I'm turning into an Old Timer since several of the classes I took have changed since then
I think I have a recommendation for a DQ to be posted during week 1 of Ethics:
A student nurse during Community Health class goes online. He finds an answer on Study Mode to the DQ question that asks the nurse to discuss the difference between at an-risk population and a vulnerable population. Apparently, he likes the answer previously posted by another student nurse so much that he copies it word-for-word (including the citations used) and then posts it as his DQ answer in his Community Health class forum. Ethically, should the student nurse have posted the copied answer as his own work? In addition, is the classmate who discovered the plagiarism ethically bound to turn the cheating student in?
All kidding aside, I am getting frustrated with the plagiarism. I am not talking about people maybe copying just a few words - I am talking about copying entire documents and power points that are found online! I never knew about Study Mode until I started GCU and I will admit that when I first started and would search online for articles or websites to help me answer a DQ question, Study Mode would pop up and I did read some of what was posted in there (obviously not much because you can't see the entire document). I never copied anything from there (or elsewhere online) but you know when you first start out, you are sort of looking for "direction." You quickly realize that what is posted on Study Mode has obviously been written by a 10 year old or a very smart chimp!!! Even if it was more well written, I would never copy.
The plagiarism is ridiculous and don't the instructors realize that people are cheating? And don't get me started on the ridiculous participation posts. "I agree, just what you wrote, just what you wrote..." At least in my current class, the instructor did make an announcement stating that you cannot just agree with what others have posted (but she still keeps giving them the little substantive ribbon/credit for their junk).
I know that we are all crazy overachievers and I am spending hours on this program. Every one of my participation posts is substantive with a reference to an article or some website. Plus, I have too much pride to hand in a garbage paper. I would love to know what types of grades these other students are earning. It really saddens me because now I feel like my A's are worthless if these dumbos are getting the same good grades.
Ok, rant over! I really do want to know though if any of you have turned in another student for plagiarism and do you know what the outcome was if you did? Part of me feels like don't bother and don't get involved but it really is unfair for the offenders to get credit for work that is not their own.
For what it is worth Ro, I have, but only because they copied my work. She remained in the class and showed up later in Spirituality. When it came time to get my paper back from the fellow student. There was her name. It only caused me grief I believe.

I never really noticed it--as I barely read peoples DQs---as 90% of the posts were useless..saying stuff like..ya ur right...great post..or they just more or less stated what the poster stated! Then I noticed someone on here stated about the plagiarism that was taking place...and I started to read more DQs....and ya, saw a few. 1 gal in my Capstone class was super obvious it was word for word copy/paste! I thought of emailing her and calling her out on it, but didn't! I don't like being that person that runs to authority right away....I prefer to talk to them..no change..then head to the authority figure....... But I did nothing. I guess in these cases, nothing wrong with going to the Prof and saying hey---people are copy/pasting and see how she handles it. If it were a group project..for surer I would be contacting that student and say fix it.....any hassles, then contact the prof and they can deal with it...... My plan is once I am done these 2 "anything" classes is to send in an email about the plagarism that is going on...and its out in the public eye (ie these forums) Maybe 1 should start Tweeting about it,lol Only issue is--never used Twitter..but it can be an effective manner in getting heard, lol
