Members are discussing the accreditation and acceptance of BSN and MSN degrees from GCU in different states, particularly focusing on the requirement of a preceptorship for BSN programs. There are concerns about certain states not accepting GCU BSN degrees, while others share experiences with the capstone course and offer tips for scholarly activities. Additionally, there is mention of GCU transitioning back to a non-profit status and the impact of this change on students.
Howdy all, I bit the bullet and after much research, I decided on Grand Canyon! Wow, I did not expect BSN schools to be like used car salesmen--hounding me by emails and phone calls. Rather impressed on how Grand Canyon sort of left me alone, but at the same time kept in touch.
Commence my first class Sept 30th, excited, yet very nervous, as I'm not a big fan of school, LOL! I did extremely well on my Associate degree, graduated back in 2009 from Northern Virginia Community College. We shall see.
Would love to hear from past and present Grand Canyon RN to BSN students.
Hi All
looking for advice on Capstone professor. two more classes left. I'm taking a month off from work while I take capstone 'cause I'm so nervous. Did anybody attend the graduation ceremony? I'm not sure If I should go, I'm not feeling that sense of community like back in ADN school.
Thanks

Hi brinleyj! BeautyonDuty & I went to the graduation ceremony on 4/25, there's a couple posts about it starting on pg 278 of our other thread https://allnurses.com/nursing-online-distance/grand-canyon-rn-793249-page278.html
I'm glad I went, but I didn't have to travel, figure out hotels and mapping getting somewhere in a strange town (I live in AZ). I hear you on the sense of community (or lack thereof); meeting up with Beauty there was such a huge highlight for me because there was someone there I had a relationship with (an online, kind of annonymous relationship, but thanks to AN I forged friendships with people I never would have known!). I got to hug her HARD and cry a little bit with that "WE MADE IT!" kind of cry that I had back at ADN graduation :)
Beauty & I didn't sit together, so I kinda was 'alone' still, in a sea of strangers that all had this one thing in common. I went for myself, to walk across that stage and feel that sense of pride that filled me up that I had faced and conquered a goal I had been only talking about for years ("I should go back to school, I'm gonna get that BSN someday"). I myself wanted that sort of crescendo to mark my personal I DID THIS moment, and the ceremony did not disappoint. If you're going for you, to be able to mark that moment in time with a memory to hold for yourself, then I say go for it - but if that really doesn't matter and your big moment is that last click of submit for the capstone paper then that's awesome too! You can watch it on youtube and dance around the house like tokmom did! :grad: :anpom: :rckn:

Also, see my post on pg 265 of the other thread (https://allnurses.com/nursing-online-distance/grand-canyon-rn-793249-page265.html#post8434378) about those first 2 weeks - I think if I had done it this way I could have saved myself so much anxiety and grief.
Do you have your PICO/project figured out? Do you have your 15 articles? Pleeeeaaaase don't wait til the last minute like I did (a bit of golden tokmom advice I did not heed); I literally drove down to the GCU library at 8pm one night and stayed there til the wee hours with a librarian at my side helping me weed through jillions of articles, select, save, print, staple organize, etc. It was traumatic to say the least. If you wait until class starts to begin your article search, remember you have assignments due that weekend on those articles, so if you don't have them, you end up wasting precious days early in the week (while still doing DQs, mind you) that you could/should be spending on your Sunday assignment. It is a whirlwind for sure, if you don't have them yet, get busy now LOL
first 2 weeks of Capstone are busier than normal....than settles down into a normal pace....I don't work..no kids, so easy for me to say that, lol but in reality, I only spent 2 days a week working on any part of the project..that included week 1 and 2..but thats me. Know ur picot statement and 15 articles ahead of time and ur laughing..8 have to be research based....
I have no intention of going to a graduation ceremeony..did not even goto my ADN one--Was on Alaskan cruise on that date, lol I know a fair # from my FB group did and had a great time and they were glad they went.
I every one kind of new here.. I would love to join the FB how do I go about it
I'm in stats now then patho next and I'm finished! Stats is very difficult prepare in advance

Yeah, I agree - kinda like Naked & Afraid... you get dropped off in an unfamiliar place in the middle of nowhere (class), naked (no preparation or quality book/tools). You just plow through each day (assignment) and hope for the best that you can make it to the extraction point (Sunday week 5)!!!
Congrats on almost being finished with the prgram! :w00t:

I think that's Flames' FB, I'm a FaceBook dork and wouldn't even know how to sign in so I'm no help here
ALERT: rob is 39 minutes into vacation mode...
There are many FB GCU RN to BSN pages out there! If ur starting out, I suggest start your own! Ask your prof if you can post about it--using it for study purposes. And make it Secrtet! lol No cheating goes on---not risking my $$$$$ over that.....but a great place to help out. people get stuck on a certain part....and people help out. And nice to go along with others...in my case it kind of sucked, lol I took 6 months off, and got to watch them graduate, lol
