Members are discussing the accreditation and acceptance of BSN and MSN degrees from GCU in different states, particularly focusing on the requirement of a preceptorship for BSN programs. There are concerns about certain states not accepting GCU BSN degrees, while others share experiences with the capstone course and offer tips for scholarly activities. Additionally, there is mention of GCU transitioning back to a non-profit status and the impact of this change on students.
Howdy all, I bit the bullet and after much research, I decided on Grand Canyon! Wow, I did not expect BSN schools to be like used car salesmen--hounding me by emails and phone calls. Rather impressed on how Grand Canyon sort of left me alone, but at the same time kept in touch.
Commence my first class Sept 30th, excited, yet very nervous, as I'm not a big fan of school, LOL! I did extremely well on my Associate degree, graduated back in 2009 from Northern Virginia Community College. We shall see.
Would love to hear from past and present Grand Canyon RN to BSN students.
Ok..ok....thank anyway...yep same here have no clue too
How s spirituality going?
Jelous! !!!! Stuck on a 12 hrs shift w a transplant patient
Hi brinleyj! BeautyonDuty & I went to the graduation ceremony on 4/25, there's a couple posts about it starting on pg 278 of our other thread https://allnurses.com/nursing-online-distance/grand-canyon-rn-793249-page278.htmlI'm glad I went, but I didn't have to travel, figure out hotels and mapping getting somewhere in a strange town (I live in AZ). I hear you on the sense of community (or lack thereof); meeting up with Beauty there was such a huge highlight for me because there was someone there I had a relationship with (an online, kind of annonymous relationship, but thanks to AN I forged friendships with people I never would have known!). I got to hug her HARD and cry a little bit with that "WE MADE IT!" kind of cry that I had back at ADN graduation :)
Beauty & I didn't sit together, so I kinda was 'alone' still, in a sea of strangers that all had this one thing in common. I went for myself, to walk across that stage and feel that sense of pride that filled me up that I had faced and conquered a goal I had been only talking about for years ("I should go back to school, I'm gonna get that BSN someday"). I myself wanted that sort of crescendo to mark my personal I DID THIS moment, and the ceremony did not disappoint. If you're going for you, to be able to mark that moment in time with a memory to hold for yourself, then I say go for it - but if that really doesn't matter and your big moment is that last click of submit for the capstone paper then that's awesome too! You can watch it on youtube and dance around the house like tokmom did! :grad: :anpom: :rckn:
LOL, Yes I did! I would have gone but didn't know anyone and the thought of graduating by myself wasn't too thrilling. I guess I could have done a lot of selfies!
Hi Guys! So this moving bit is hard! Trying to work, pack...think I might take a paper to write over this! Ha! Still have 3 more weeks to get this all done. I got hired at the local hospital already (hooray). Start there on the 13th, so a week break between the two jobs should work out nicely. I am going to be working two 10 hour shift days a week. They did not have Case Management, so I am going to be doing Day Surgery, until I can find an online CM job. My girlfriend works for a company in Portland that may be having an opening soon...so until then I'm back in scrubs and learning something new! This union hospital does not offer a wage difference for BSN, but a dollar an hour for certification.

movers!!! Only way to do it!! Wifes employers pays for packers/movers, and is it nice! Will never move again without them, lol I always thought it made more sense to pay for qualifications than say a BSN.....I'm sure as there is more BSNs in the work force..no real advantage for companies to pay extra for it. enjoy the move, beautiful area the west coast, spent almost 10 yrs in Victoria BC

I think I would have like this as well. If I would have studied for certification in my new specialty then I would have learned more about my job and how to do it better. I plan on tackling this soon after my BSN. I wont get paid any more or less but I will gain skills to do my job better.

Packing is awful! The move sounds like it will do you good. Enjoy surgery, I do.

That would be so cool to work from home. Of course with my loud dogs and kids, I'd have to set up an office in my closet.

I think it depends on where you live. In my neck of the woods, there are more ADN than BSN, so paying for the BSN would behoove the hospitals trying to "better" themselves. You want the BSN, you better pay for them.
I do get paid a 1.00 more an hour for my cert, but I wouldn't mind getting a few pennies more for my BSN.

I'm not sure why, but my brain went straight to Narnia with this!
