Howdy all, I bit the bullet and after much research, I decided on Grand Canyon! Wow, I did not expect BSN schools to be like used car salesmen--hounding me by emails and phone calls. Rather impressed on how Grand Canyon sort of left me alone, but at the same time kept in touch.

Commence my first class Sept 30th, excited, yet very nervous, as I'm not a big fan of school, LOL! I did extremely well on my Associate degree, graduated back in 2009 from Northern Virginia Community College. We shall see.

Would love to hear from past and present Grand Canyon RN to BSN students.

I can't believe all the stuff I have heard about Spirituality. You would think it would be well... uplifting!! Just curious are the Prof. Nurses or Theologists? :( will you PM me who your Prof is? LOL

xx

Lot depends on the prof..lot depends on urself....some people are very good writers. I'm not super duper writer, but fortunate enough to have a wife who is an excellent writer, taking advantage of all the great schooling she has had,lol

I have chatted with people that failed with 1 prof, while another got 100%...so one has to keep an open mind when people are talking about profs/classes. Look at The Rubric and follow that...as sometimes the instructions in the assignment do not coincide with the Rubric. Forget which class/paper that was..but the instructions was missing a fair bit of required stuff...but it was in the rubric....and I know people got dinged for it as I chatted with one that did not use the rubric.

No texts/videos for me..started my own FB group and that was handy, as well as here. Spirituality was an interesting class..I'm not religious 1 bit, and didn't find it a very religious class. best of luck

Has anyone ever gotten anything less than an "A" on one of their group projects? I literally have 100% in this class and can obviously afford a bit of a hit - and am so tempted to be done with this garbage and just submit it. Tired of making "suggestions" (which is me trying to nicely point out errors or ask people for cites since I am the editor/person submitting). Tired of typing posts stating we are missing critical stuff from the rubric. Tired of being tired of these group projects! HaHa

.

I hear what you are saying and I don't really know the solution to this problem. I never got less than a 'A' in the CLC projects for the mere fact that I usually take charge and make sure it is complete and somewhat correct upon submission. I am usually the final set of eyes on the project and make changes accordingly.

I have learned that it is best to be the organizer but also force the other people in the group to take a part in the project even if you do most of the proof-reading in the end. I post nearly everyday in the color forum if just to say "how is everyone's part coming along." I also outline everything straight out of the rubric so that there is no misunderstanding about what the project or what the individual part must contain.

It is more work for me but it saves on the frustration. I wonder how these people make it to the end as well because their personal papers must be just as bad.

Two classes to go and I'm having SERIOUS advisor issues. I'm ready to flip out. I got a new advisor in the class before this apparently and she seems to think her job is CANCELLING my classes instead of scheduling them. I checked my personal email before heading to bed two hours ago because I'm sleep-deprived today and still recovering from mono and I find an email saying she tried to call me today (while I was at work) and because of unresolved academic or financial issues (Um, 4.0 and all classes taken to date are paid for) the class I'm scheduled to start on July 6 is on hold. Now I'm so aggravated I can't sleep and I need to be up too soon for work.

She called the day the class I'm in now started to tell me she pulled me from it because I had an incomplete from the previous class. Maybe ask first? I had an extension because of the mono and had paid cash for the class. Apparently the cash is the reason I got reinstated because you can't be in a class if you have an incomplete...and yet I did it quite successfully. That was my FIRST interaction with her!

I'm really irritated right now.

I have come to the conclusion advisers at GCU are to put it nice---lacking in advising skills!! I asked mine what class she would recommend as my last "anything" class......no clue....just stated the 1 I'm signed up for is a popular 1!! Hang in there, almost done!!

I had no idea there were FB pages. Where is my head? I just joined the only one I could find in my search.

Ok, seriously going to sleep soon. I've been fairly out of commission because of illness. I got a cough then ear infection in the beginning of December, repeat, repeat, repeat with the ear. One tube, not a whole lot of pain relief and months long bout with mono later I'm on the downhill slide to this degree-- difficult advisor not withstanding!

I have Trends and Capstone to go. Is anyone else in the same place? I figure it isn't likely, but thought I'd ask anyway!

Question... was there a class that you guys enjoyed the most? I am almost done with the first class lol yay!!! I need something to look forward to!!

Did you guys ever use Skype or did you ever have to make a video? I'm hoping that's a no on both but whaddayagonnado if I have to!

xx

The two classes I liked the most were statistics and nursing research. Maybe because I think I learned the most because they were only briefly taught in my ADN program.

No Skype or video yet, lot of powerpoints.....

The Spirituality class is just that - it focuses on individuals' (patients) spirtual side, whatever that may mean to them, and how the nursing profession should acknowledge and respect a patient's individuality as it benefits their healing process. I learned a lot in that class; it was dry but kinda fascinating in a way.

OHhhhhhhhh I have NOT gotten that at all from my perspective! Had my instructor ask me How does valuing a patient as the image of God specifically influence how you care for that patient?"

STruggling, mostly because I feel like we are not addressing just what you described - acknowledging and respecting a patient's individual spiritual beliefs as it benefits their healing process

I did away from her....mainly because it was a Canadian flick, lol and it centered on Alzheimer's--which my grandmother had. It was actually a very good movie and even better, it was very easy to complete the assignment based on that movie. Drinking beer, watching a movie..life was good, lol

cool, thanks!
