Members are discussing the accreditation and acceptance of BSN and MSN degrees from GCU in different states, particularly focusing on the requirement of a preceptorship for BSN programs. There are concerns about certain states not accepting GCU BSN degrees, while others share experiences with the capstone course and offer tips for scholarly activities. Additionally, there is mention of GCU transitioning back to a non-profit status and the impact of this change on students.
Howdy all, I bit the bullet and after much research, I decided on Grand Canyon! Wow, I did not expect BSN schools to be like used car salesmen--hounding me by emails and phone calls. Rather impressed on how Grand Canyon sort of left me alone, but at the same time kept in touch.
Commence my first class Sept 30th, excited, yet very nervous, as I'm not a big fan of school, LOL! I did extremely well on my Associate degree, graduated back in 2009 from Northern Virginia Community College. We shall see.
Would love to hear from past and present Grand Canyon RN to BSN students.
One girl in my class handed in a all white PPT with just words, not one graphic. It was a C PPT through and through...but I'm sure she was following the theory of C's get degrees.
I loved this class for this reason. I got to see the work submitted by my fellow classmates. There were some that were pretty good but then there were a few that did not even meet the criteria for a 'C' PPT. These students passed I am sure.
Which is interesting because my last requirement at my new job hire process.....they want to see my transcript. Second time this has happened, wondering if this is going to be a new trend in nursing hiring practices?
I would like to see this but would it also prevent good nurses from getting jobs? There are some students that do not test well but know the material. I had one of these students in my class and I would let her work on me or a family member without hesitation. I wish there was a way to weed out the people that live the motto "C's get degrees."

Never got to see any PPT from others in any of my classes...... No perfect system, but yes, some people do test terribly...some people test great and are morons, lol

We had to post our powerpoints in the discussion forum and give feedback and responses on each other's projects. Must have changed since you were in that class.
Went back and looked..did that class Dec 2013/Jan 2014....handed in on the last day of class..
This is a great idea, no one in my class thought to go out of the box like that. That would work for My Sister's Keeper as well, since the sister is not physically ill as a donor, but traumatized nonetheless.I did good ol' Steel Mags, gotta say I loved it and found all the stuff I needed for the ppt (had to watch it twice though). Dolly rocks in that movie
For Sale: Steel Magnolias DVD, viewed twice... cheeeeap!
I rented mine from Amazon. Should have bought it for posterity, lol.
which reminds me.....You can go back and look at past classes.....for those that Plagiarize in DQs.....it is right out in the open....I have no issues with those that accidentally miss a citation or 2, we all do it...but when 1 just cuts/pastes from the article and that is ur DQ or response, that is a lot of laziness!! Wonder if they would take away someones degree over that? Seems very silly to cut/paste over a few points!! Wonder what their papers look like??
Question about PowerPoint formatting: I got marked down points for the title page not being formatted correctly. The sample template for PowerPoint has exactly the same elements I put on mine (Title, GCU, my name). She never posted anything that it should include anything different. Did I miss something? Is there supposed to be more information than that? I'm getting myself pretty upset over 1.87 points...but, would like to know for next time.

It's a game....truly is...I used the exact same template as what GCU used as their example on how to make a great PPT....Prof took a bit off as the background was distracting, lol How can 1 go wrong when u use the schools example, lol

Add the date maybe? I didn't know there was an official format for ppt title pages, I got pretty creative with mine.
I totally get the irritation of a 1.87 point loss; for me it wasn't the number of points but the principle. I wanted to them to back up their critique with actual examples so I wouldn't make the same "mistake" in the future (which, oddly, wasn't recognized in any of my prior classes...). I specifically asked, over and over, and never got replies from any of the profs. One prof simply typed, "The grade stands." Well isn't that helpful now.
Annoying, when someone comments "could have used more detail on ____", yet I had addressed absolutely everything in the rubric to the letter, ad nauseam, and gone way beyond word count allowance. No one, since I could speak and write, has EVER told me I lack detail I couldn't be brief if my life depended on it.

Mine too, but then there was also a mandatory "Module 5 DQ3" where you posted your ppt and everyone had to make "at least 3 substantive comments". I remember there being a hubub in the QFI forum where students were griping about "how are we supposed to get in 3 comments before midnight when students have UNTIL midnight to turn the thing in??"

This is absolutely frustrating! My current instructor in ethics gives no feedback either and it makes me crazy! On my first paper she posted only the rubric with points given for each part. I did not get all the points for APA and I asked her why. She later posted my paper with comments and stated my APA was perfect. On the second paper she her comments were something like great paper, perfect APA, please make sure you address everything in the rubric. I went back and looked at it and I DID!!! I am just letting it go since I am getting an A but it really irks me. She also barely participates in our class and makes like 2 posts in the forum a week that say great job. Great job is also the only comment we got for our DQs as well. I just gave her a scathing review in the survey for this class. On the up side she is super lenient with the forum so I make almost every post about personal experience and do not back it with a reference. She's allowing us all to be as lazy as she is.
