Grand Canyon University RN to BSN Reviews

Nursing Students School Programs Nursing Q/A

Howdy all, I bit the bullet and after much research, I decided on Grand Canyon! Wow, I did not expect BSN schools to be like used car salesmen--hounding me by emails and phone calls. Rather impressed on how Grand Canyon sort of left me alone, but at the same time kept in touch.

Commence my first class Sept 30th, excited, yet very nervous, as I'm not a big fan of school, LOL! I did extremely well on my Associate degree, graduated back in 2009 from Northern Virginia Community College. We shall see.

Would love to hear from past and present Grand Canyon RN to BSN students.

It's distressing that not only can the student not figure out how to properly cite and produce a reference at this stage of the game, but that she thinks V. Hugo is the one who wrote the book from which she's attempting to cite. Victor Hugo was a poet from the 1800's, I'm fairly certain he didn't write any great works on night-shift nurses' level of fatigue

You are correct!! I have done a bit of digging and found the author of the book etc.....The kicker is..... it is NOT a research article!

I will do something at the end if I have to, but I am trying to push her to take some responsibility for herself and her work.

All I can do at this point is shake my head and cross my fingers we get a decent grade and this group does not tank my grade.

I should have written "When one is copying/pasting an actual URL", I didn't mean you! T'was more of a tip for any readers who may not have run across that tidbit of APA yet as I was corrected harshly by a Prof and thought I'd share.

Sorry..... I did not mean to come off flippant. Just so very frustrated with this group. It has been like pulling teeth from the get go. There is so much more than I have said here. I don't think we are doing it right and no one would communicate or discuss. Then a Miss I've done everything says she can't do anything without an outline. Ok... maybe if you participated in some discussions of what the H___ we are going to do there could be an outline!!

Enough of my vent.....

I totally understand how to do APA. I am pushing this gal to do her own work and not leave it up to someone else to do it for her. I will if I have to at the last minute do it, but at this point I am telling her she needs to fix her reference as if she were handing in a paper.

This is the same gal that said she didn't see her slides on the power-point.....really? Wrote back and informed her the slide numbers they were and that they were put into the power-point format for cohesiveness of the presentation. Got a note back "ohhhh I thought I recognized some of the information."

*thinking I may develop a flat spot from banging my head*

Say what??? Omg....

Omg..I'd tell her she should have written the bloody outline!!

Hi everyone,

Well hello! Professional Dynamics was a shock but overall it wasn't too bad. My worst classes so far have been health assessment and concepts in community and public health. I guess your mileage will vary, go figure I loved stats!!

It has to start with one......

So yeah I do not understand stats at all and I am dropping. I think I have too much going on and too many loud children in y house! I am going to see if I can take it on campus somewhere since luckily I m in Phoenix!

If you haven't tried thinking storm please try it before you drop. They will literally walk you through the assignments.

I agree with kwmom. If you're going to drop it anyway, another few days won't make a difference anyway, right? Honestly, I hate to admit this, but I don't understand it now and I didn't understand it then. I made the mistake of thinking I needed to understand all the concepts and become a master of statistics - who can do that in 5 weeks starting from zero?? Not me, that's for sure. Statistics is not math, it's formulas. It looks crazy and foreign, but as long as I kept that in my head "it's not math, it's not math, this is NOT math", I could grasp what I needed to do, which was this: see what they did to get these answers in the practice test, and apply that same thing to the real questions. I did NOT understand what I was doing. I don't even have a fancy calculator, I was doing this on my cell phone! I found myself drowning in fear and frustration until I smacked myself and just started with, "okay, how did they get that answer, alright, now let's do that same process over here". I wish wish wish I had used Thinking Storm, and honestly I have no idea why I didn't (self punishment perhaps LOL), but I got through that class and you can too. I would hate to see you toss $1500 on a class you already started and then spend even more taking it again on a ground campus. Is there anything any of us can help with? Did you find the videos that walk you through all 5 Excel assignments?

Like PrismMSN said, you do not have to be a math genius. You do not need to know everything about stats. It is a very cursory review of the concepts. Get the vocabulary down and then just accept all the formulas as truth. Get a general idea of how they got the answers and where they got the numbers for the formulas. Don't be specific and use thinking storm.

When you are doing the workbook questions always look at the sample study questions. They are usually the same just asking for a different statistic. substitute your numbers and do the question the same way.

PM me if you have questions..... I will help if I can.

Seriously...can people read about how to create professional PowerPoints?!! Also, can't the group members stick to the rubric?? We now have 31 slides to our 15-20 slide CLC project.

THIS IS NOT THAT HARD!! I would have spent less time on this project if I had done it all on my own! :(
