Grand Canyon University RN to BSN Reviews

Nursing Students School Programs Nursing Q/A

Howdy all, I bit the bullet and after much research, I decided on Grand Canyon! Wow, I did not expect BSN schools to be like used car salesmen--hounding me by emails and phone calls. Rather impressed on how Grand Canyon sort of left me alone, but at the same time kept in touch.

Commence my first class Sept 30th, excited, yet very nervous, as I'm not a big fan of school, LOL! I did extremely well on my Associate degree, graduated back in 2009 from Northern Virginia Community College. We shall see.

Would love to hear from past and present Grand Canyon RN to BSN students.

I dropped it, I was in a total panic. We are in the process of buying a house, my husband had knee surgery, and kids are about to get out of school (one of whom is an 8 year old boy with ADHD). I am only out $398 because I was in the first week. I was trying to do the workbook and I did try to use the study questions but they didn't match up. The instructor was a tyrant and the DQ questions and the posts were cutting into studying time, along with my family. I am going on to Ethics next week and then I will try stats in the fall after we have moved and kids are back in school. I downloaded the stats syllabus Sunday and I plan to use the links you guys provided along with the syllabus to go over this summer at my leisure during my 60 day break. I feel like an idiot loser at this point, but I had to get out before I had a mental breakdown lol. Thanks everyone for all the advice and help! Maybe I can get one of the recommended instructors when I start over :)

No you are not an idiot loser, just a lot going on. If you are not comfortable with math then it would be stressful to attempt. I would look over the book and requirements and see if you can make sense of it. I don't know if I would try to complete much of the work because they do change the required workbook assignments from time to time. Enjoy a little free time....

I am sending a PM.

Talk about crickets in the class.. I am in Patho right now first week, and since there is only one DQ each week, nothing to respond to. Only another student and I have posted the first DQ. SO I am wondering how anyone gets their 2 responses times 3 days when it seems like no one is there. This class is kinda boring. First topic is Diabetes and it seems this is always a topic in a lot of classes.. That or HIV.

My patho prof made up a 2nd DQ...not mandatory to reply to it..but was to ur benefit! Yes lot of Diabetes....used that to my benefit, and my Capstone was on Type 1 DM!

I figure some of you won't believe this, but in that class that I turned in two students for blatant plagiarism, I then had to turn in the professor as well - I was going to wait until I finished the program, but I couldn't let it go that long. Sent in the proof last week. Ah well.

Two classes to go - Capstone, then Leadership. This Trends CLC was the best so far, everyone followed the instructions I set out and we got done way before the deadline. Happy about that little bit of success :)

I finally experienced other classmates who cheat on their DQ's! The instructors have to see what I see right? I am in my first week of Leadership and I googled Management Theories because the lecture notes had barely any information on them and I found a great article. I read it, and in my own words answered the DQ. At the bottom was an example in a hospital and as I am reading other students posts, someone used the same article but word for word and used the example too!

I do wonder the same. Day after day I see people copy/pasting straight from sources, etc etc - then again, each DQ is worth like 5 freakin points, so the grand total is 50 points, or .5 of a percent! Why they aren't kicked out of the program for plagiarism is another question.

I try to comfort myself, knowing some of these people will get their BSN's, by telling myself that I'm headed to grad school with a 4.0 and that there's no way, even if by some miracle they get into grad school too, that they'd make it past the first semester. I tell myself this, even if it's not true :( because I know some damned thick-as-a-brick nurses that have their Master's degrees . . . .

I agree that they just say they graded everyone separately to get us to shut up. Have you noticed that the slackers, even the ones who do nothing, show up in your other classes? I am really disappointed that I work my butt off and these slackers are going to get the same degree as I do. I just finished community health and in the forum the first week the instructor kept asking people where are your references? After the first week she gave up and the majority of the the posts were "I agree with your post completely, blah blah blah....". Am I just one of the few with a 4.0? Do the rest of the people get Cs? How can you pass a class when you don't even come close to following the instructions? I think those of us who try should get a tuition discount or something lol!

Supnurse, that is awesome that your in the MSN program. I don't think anyone here has started the MSN program yet. Did you get your BSN from GCU and if so how many classes do you have to take for the Masters program? Oh, Welcome!

I received my BSN from the University of Texas at Arlington (UTA). I am doing the Leadership track at GCU. Everyone regardless of the track has to take 3 classes:

NUR 502 Theoretical Foundations for Nursing Roles & Practice

NUR 504 Health Care Research Analysis & Utilization

NUR 508 Ethics, Policy, & Finance in the Health Care System

Then you break off in your specific track. For the leadership track I will have five 8wk classes and one 16 wk class.

Yeah, what Beauty asks. I have wondered what the MSN program consists of. More CLC assignments?

In the first class we did have CLC assignments. I just looked at the second class that starts Thursday and it has CLC assignments too.

It's all good, I'm glad you did what is best for you and your fam bam Kyra. We'll get you through it when it comes time and if you need help. ;) Stats is the one class they do rotate the assignments on frequently. :sniff:

Im curious what did you turn an instructor in for? Congrats on being almost done!

No. you have to do what is best for you..do it later and be less stressed, is a wise decision.

I rarely read DQs, people say the same stuff over and over and over. Little disappointing that some just copy/paste for DQs.....Some are so obvious, it is obvious that the profs don't read them. Makes you wonder what their papers look like? I will make mention of that in my final review.
