Grand Canyon University RN to BSN Reviews

What Members Are Saying (AI-Generated Summary)

Members are discussing the accreditation and acceptance of BSN and MSN degrees from GCU in different states, particularly focusing on the requirement of a preceptorship for BSN programs. There are concerns about certain states not accepting GCU BSN degrees, while others share experiences with the capstone course and offer tips for scholarly activities. Additionally, there is mention of GCU transitioning back to a non-profit status and the impact of this change on students.

Howdy all, I bit the bullet and after much research, I decided on Grand Canyon! Wow, I did not expect BSN schools to be like used car salesmen--hounding me by emails and phone calls. Rather impressed on how Grand Canyon sort of left me alone, but at the same time kept in touch.

Commence my first class Sept 30th, excited, yet very nervous, as I'm not a big fan of school, LOL! I did extremely well on my Associate degree, graduated back in 2009 from Northern Virginia Community College. We shall see.

Would love to hear from past and present Grand Canyon RN to BSN students.

OMG reading the posts is stats is the absolute most boring thing I have ever done! 6 substansive posts.....REALLY?!?!?! I am having an extremely hard time trying to come up with responses that aren't "oh yeah, good point". Any tips on what the heck to say in a class that is confusing and completely boring at the same time? Don't get me wrong because I am grateful there are no group projects in this class, but at least the CLC rage kept me awake!

Oh and can someone point me in the direction of the youtube videos? The Khan academy guys voice lulls me to sleep, as does the textbook, and I have to complete my first assignment by Sunday.

On a happy note, I think I have discovered a cure for insomnia!

You do urself a favor in ur original post and form some type of question at the end, so people reply to it, and then u can reply to those questions......Just play the game and plop something down, throw in a reference.

I worst time I had was the DQ's.. Did the best I could, asked a lot of questions in my response and just "plopped" something down as Flames said. My instructor was not too picky because there were some two sentence responses that got full credit.

I tried to tie the DQ into real life, and my job. It wasn't easy.

I think this is where that came from:

(Pakieser-Reed, 2013, Chapter 2)

Pakieser-Reed, K. (2013). Night shift, fatigue, and sleep. In Night-shift nursing: Savvy solutions for a healthy lifestyle. Retrieved from https://books.google.com/books?id=NlohYbbAfQMC& printsec=frontcover&source=gbs_ge_summary_r&cad=0#v=onepage&q&f=false

Or, should it be referenced this way?

...except...

never let the actual hyperlink show (I couldn't correct it here on AN, but it's not supposed to look like that). When you are copying/pasting an actual URL, paste it as "plain text" or any other way you can so it shows only as a web address, NOT an actual hyperlink that ppl can click on (an APA no-no).

I totally understand how to do APA. I am pushing this gal to do her own work and not leave it up to someone else to do it for her. I will if I have to at the last minute do it, but at this point I am telling her she needs to fix her reference as if she were handing in a paper.

This is the same gal that said she didn't see her slides on the power-point.....really? Wrote back and informed her the slide numbers they were and that they were put into the power-point format for cohesiveness of the presentation. Got a note back "ohhhh I thought I recognized some of the information."

*thinking I may develop a flat spot from banging my head*

It's distressing that not only can the student not figure out how to properly cite and produce a reference at this stage of the game, but that V. Hugo is listed as the author of the book from which she's attempting to cite. Victor Hugo was a poet from the 1800's, I'm fairly certain he didn't write any great works on night-shift nurses' level of fatigue

I should have written "When one is copying/pasting an actual URL", I didn't mean you! T'was more of a tip for any readers who may not have run across that tidbit of APA yet as I was corrected harshly by a Prof and thought I'd share.
