Members are discussing the accreditation and acceptance of BSN and MSN degrees from GCU in different states, particularly focusing on the requirement of a preceptorship for BSN programs. There are concerns about certain states not accepting GCU BSN degrees, while others share experiences with the capstone course and offer tips for scholarly activities. Additionally, there is mention of GCU transitioning back to a non-profit status and the impact of this change on students.
Howdy all, I bit the bullet and after much research, I decided on Grand Canyon! Wow, I did not expect BSN schools to be like used car salesmen--hounding me by emails and phone calls. Rather impressed on how Grand Canyon sort of left me alone, but at the same time kept in touch.
Commence my first class Sept 30th, excited, yet very nervous, as I'm not a big fan of school, LOL! I did extremely well on my Associate degree, graduated back in 2009 from Northern Virginia Community College. We shall see.
Would love to hear from past and present Grand Canyon RN to BSN students.

So I have statistics starting Monday and I just looked into the classroom. This instructor seems like she is going to be a stickler for the DQ and substantive post rules. It should be interesting. I checked out some of the assignments and it looks like a foreign language to me. I HATE MATH! Do I have any chance of getting an A, or even passing this class??? I am scared!
Okay, Don't worry about the class. Since GCU offers tutors and also has Thinking Storm, you will be fine. Take it from me! I dropped out of the algebra prerequisites twice at my own community college and this class was my worst fear. But I used the Thinking Storm people and it was free. They walked me through each assignment and all my answers were correct.

Just be prepared to use the tutors and work at it..it is not a gimmee class, but very doable, just takes some effort!
I didn't know there was a group project in nursing trends!!!! I thought I was in the last class for group projects. Maybe I should take that class next to get it done with..... Trade it with spirituality.....

Just double checked..yep, CLC in Trends!! It was actually my best CLC group of the whole program, lol

Trends and Research were my absolute worst CLC's, in that order. It does not matter the subject though as kwmom said her Trends CLC went without a hitch, it's the monsters you get stuck with.
Ugh, I also remember that Trends CLC. It was about whether or not continuing education ought to be mandatory for nurses. You'd think that was fairly easy, no? Oh, no. My group was all over the place, couldn't decide whether CE meant continuing one's education through the continuum (ADN-->BSN-->MSN-->APRN), or, if it meant actual "CEUs". The powerpoint was a quite a mess by the end because it kept jumping back and forth between the two.
Also, that CLC didn't have it's own "weekend", there was an individual paper due that Sunday as well!
Yes, the big thing is the other group members, and Trends was the ONLY group where everyone showed up right away, and in record time everyone agreed on who did what, and we went on our merry ways! Most of the group chimed in every now and then and said all was well..it was a thing of beauty!! I mentioned that to the prof, how it was going smoothly, and thats not normally the case--which she agreed, and she hinted at other groups were not as fortunate, lol She did her BSN at GCU, and well aware of the slackers in the groups.
OMG reading the posts is stats is the absolute most boring thing I have ever done! 6 substansive posts.....REALLY?!?!?! I am having an extremely hard time trying to come up with responses that aren't "oh yeah, good point". Any tips on what the heck to say in a class that is confusing and completely boring at the same time? Don't get me wrong because I am grateful there are no group projects in this class, but at least the CLC rage kept me awake!
Oh and can someone point me in the direction of the youtube videos? The Khan academy guys voice lulls me to sleep, as does the textbook, and I have to complete my first assignment by Sunday.
On a happy note, I think I have discovered a cure for insomnia!

Ok for some reason I thought I was taking Intro to Research next (don't ask me how I missed the FOUR classes before that one ha!), but it is Health Assessment! Is that about the same 'heaviness' as Family-centered health promotion??!?
I am sitting here trying to finish my paper due today and I am failing miserably. I have writer's block when I have no passion for what I am writing! :-/
