What Members Are Saying (AI-Generated Summary)

Members are discussing the accreditation and acceptance of BSN and MSN degrees from GCU in different states, particularly focusing on the requirement of a preceptorship for BSN programs. There are concerns about certain states not accepting GCU BSN degrees, while others share experiences with the capstone course and offer tips for scholarly activities. Additionally, there is mention of GCU transitioning back to a non-profit status and the impact of this change on students.

Howdy all, I bit the bullet and after much research, I decided on Grand Canyon! Wow, I did not expect BSN schools to be like used car salesmen--hounding me by emails and phone calls. Rather impressed on how Grand Canyon sort of left me alone, but at the same time kept in touch.

Commence my first class Sept 30th, excited, yet very nervous, as I'm not a big fan of school, LOL! I did extremely well on my Associate degree, graduated back in 2009 from Northern Virginia Community College. We shall see.

Would love to hear from past and present Grand Canyon RN to BSN students.

The basic assignments/DQs are the same across all classrooms. The requirements for each instructor can vary vastly. If you have not posted in your classroom you can request a change.

The CLC is a paper now, that has been that way since I took the class last December.

As far as picking your subject, that will make it easier on you, and from what I understand especially when we reach capstone (last class in the nursing requirements).

I fussed with the PICOT and it was super easy (easiest 100 points in this BSN venture), use Google and you will find a ton of examples out there to give you an idea.

Will PM you instructor I had.

Thank you Winterwhite! I can't imagine, how the group paper will look like... Hope for the best :)

So I just checked out my classroom for Community Health and it appears there are 2 weeks that have no assignments other than the DQ questions. The points add up to 1000. Is this for real? I realize 2 of the 3 assignments are pretty involved, but really? Am I dreaming?

Also, one of my favorite c-workers is in my class. I am going to request we are in the same group.

Seriously trying not to get my hopes up.

PM me & I'll do my best; that was the one that caused the biggest braincramp to date in this program (for me anyway)! :banghead:

If you could PM me your response about the commnity health class I would owe you bigtime!

Yes, it is for real ))) However, you will have THREE assignments due the last week. PrismRN guided me very well through this week 5 (thank you!!!) and now I am polishing up my paper :) I will try to find that post and put a link here.

as for group with a friend, you most likely will get it without asking, since (as I noticed) if they have two people from the same community they often put them in one group (I think to avoid haing two assessments of the same community). I had the same situation with my CLC in this class.

but ur not working with anyone else, lol

Somewhat true you didn't have to wait for someone else to turn in their part of the assignment. However there is a worry that the professor may grade you down because you didn't catch certain APA errors or maybe be angry because you were too strict on the other student. there really is no guideline on grading..

Then you have the pressure I'm wondering if you should correct what the student tells you to correct and will it look like you are ignoring the advice?

Yes, how deep does one go,lol BUT by then one should know the prof and have a feeling how she/he marks, as this takes place during week 4.

My prof marked very Fair (easy). The person I had to critique was almost double over the word count....lot of good info, but not laid out very well...she may have just been playing the "game" I kept it in a positive manner, but did mention the WAY over the word count.......... On the other hand..the gal that marked my paper, was more than happy to try and throw me under the bus! Was kind of funny, but sad....She had some valid comments, but a lot was grasping at air.......I never try to stab anyone on the back....keep it positive......I had a 98% by the prof on my "draft" so not going to put a lot of time in the final version, lol I always put my best foot forward, but you do get a feeling on what the profs want do not want and of course cater to that!!

I am almost ALWAYS over on word count because I want to try to always display a "deep knowledge" so I can get a 5 in each category. Since word count is not on the rubric I feel like it is more important to de detailed.

As for organization sometimes I am also all over the place because of the darn prompts. They are like puzzles. For the most part I try to just keep the layout in the rubric and make the rubric titles my level 1 headings.

When I turned in my corrected paper I just made sure to correct the things the teacher called my attention to. I think I took one or two suggestions from the other student, but I wasn't so worried.

I'm wishing I was in spirituality again!

Depends on the prof, I have had 1 that was a stickler to the word count..reason for a word count is to make it more challenging to show that knowledge. I don't miss spirituality, lol

My cousin just re-posted this on FB

"when I die, I want the people I did group projects with to lower me into my grave so they can let me down one last time"

Lolol, anyone relate??

So far so good with my CLC group this time though. Time will tell!

Not me. I was consistently dinged 10-15 points off my papers.

Research/Capstone:

Not sure who asked, but research, PICO and capstone have one thing in common... RESEARCH. I cannot stress this enough, but you should get your research articles for the capstone as early as possible in your program. I did change my PICO from heart failure to compassion fatigue/burnout, but I also had my articles found months before the capstone. They were read, categorized (true research vs peer review) and highlighted for areas of discussion. Had I used heart failure from the get-go, I would have had my PICO completed and been ahead of the game for the Capstone by having a few articles in my possession. Be comfortable writing a literature review, because you have to write a minimum of 15 of them for two of the capstone papers.

Research kicked me into high gear. It totally freaked me out about the capstone, lol.
