Additionally, there is mention of GCU transitioning back to a non-profit status and the impact of this change on students.

Howdy all, I bit the bullet and after much research, I decided on Grand Canyon! Wow, I did not expect BSN schools to be like used car salesmen--hounding me by emails and phone calls. Rather impressed on how Grand Canyon sort of left me alone, but at the same time kept in touch.

Commence my first class Sept 30th, excited, yet very nervous, as I'm not a big fan of school, LOL! I did extremely well on my Associate degree, graduated back in 2009 from Northern Virginia Community College. We shall see.

Would love to hear from past and present Grand Canyon RN to BSN students.

I really am glad that I decided on Grand Canyon (after months of researching which school). It is definitely worth the expense. I know other nurses in the same classes, but different schools and there is a world of difference. The loudcloud learning platform is also much better than the others. I wish you the best on your road to success!

$17000 is a lot of $$$, but it was actually lower than many others I looked into, so I was quite happy, lol Yes the online classroom--loud cloud---is VERY user friendly. And to make it even easier they offer a FREE 3 day intro course which you can take. It is not a pass/fail thing, just goes over on how to use it. If you know how to use MS Office and MS Power-point, your set! I know a few that don't, and they struggle a bit. So if you don't, it may be in ur best interest to take a class in person or online on MS office/PowerPoint.

Hi mso819

I am also trying to decide between Grand Canyon univ and Western Governors Univ. It's hard to decide. Transcript eval at WGU was not so good that I will have to retake many GE classes, but much cheaper. However, Grand Canyon university I only need 36 credits but expensive. ;-(

Yes i am going to go with GCU. Only because WGU wouldnt accept my credits. Even though it is much cheaper than GCU now that i have been keeping in touch with FLAMES and TOKMOM here on AN they have really boosted my confidence in deciding to go with GCU. Plus GCU is not hounding me. yay! I was also considering AmeriTech out of utah because they would accpet ALL my credits and the program is only 12 months and one of my ADN professors teach there and the program director has an excellent reputation here in the area i live in but the only have NLNAC candidaxy status which is a BIG step but still not accredidted. And im not going to another non nursing accredidted school. Although i definitely like my ADN program it has been hell trying to find a reasonable good program that will accpet my credits. But GCU and AmeriTech definitely will. But im going with GCU.

I am currently in Ethics. I was originally told I wouldn't have to take this class because I have already taken an ethics class, but then they said I wouldn't have taken enough courses through them to get my degree. I am SO SICK of all these group projects. I am constantly with people that don't pull their weight on things. I do not feel as if I have learned a single thing. I am really nervous for my next class (spirituality) since I am agnostic. I am sure my 4.0 is going to be going down the drain in that class. I actually dislike this school. I think it is easy, but I am not getting anything out of it.

Not so sure it is easy. I know a few that have dropped out because it was too much for them. I think a lot of it has to do on who you get as a professor. Yes one has to take so many classes, think the counselor stated upper and lower level classes, so I have to do a few non-nursing ones again--but can test out of them!! I have lucked out thus far with group projects. It is what it is!!

Spirituality is more like being spiritual and you have to learn about other religions. It doesn't matter what you believe, it's about the patient. I chose GCU because of the religious aspects so was ok with this class. It is paper heavy and there are no group projects.

I wouldn't say school is easy, as the papers and assignments can be taxing as heck. Yes, group projects aren't fun. I typically do way more than most because I want to keep my grades. It is what it is though and they let me know ahead of time what I was in for, so I expected them.

I think it is sad that you feel you are learning nothing. I have been an RN for over 25 years now, and in the health profession since age 18 as a CNA and LPN, plus I'm certified. I have a lot of knowledge in this brain, have taken care of probably hundreds of people, dealt with different cultures, and still come away from every class with something. Some are less than others, and other's have changed my nursing practice and thought process.

Good luck

I wish I felt like I was learning something. I love learning, but sadly I don't think I have learned anything new. I really don't mind writing papers on my own. I am hoping that when I finish I feel I have learned something from this program.

Not to criticize, but if one has only been a RN for 1.5 yrs, there is a lot more to learn!! I always thought the most dangerous person was the one that thought they knew it all. Best of luck

Oh, I am continuing to learn things at work. I just don't feel the school has taught me anything new.

I'm sorry it hasn't been the best experience for you.

finally enrolled to GCU RN BSN, has anyone moved the start date to next term (which is two weeks later) after paying the tuition?

Just ask (email) your counselor!
