Grand Canyon University RN to BSN Reviews

Nursing Students School Programs Nursing Q/A

Howdy all, I bit the bullet and after much research, I decided on Grand Canyon! Wow, I did not expect BSN schools to be like used car salesmen--hounding me by emails and phone calls. Rather impressed on how Grand Canyon sort of left me alone, but at the same time kept in touch.

Commence my first class Sept 30th, excited, yet very nervous, as I'm not a big fan of school, LOL! I did extremely well on my Associate degree, graduated back in 2009 from Northern Virginia Community College. We shall see.

Would love to hear from past and present Grand Canyon RN to BSN students.

I hate, hate, hate Grammarly. It marks mistakes that don't exist. I unistalled it with extreme prejudice Good riddance to that trash.

Tell me how you really feel.

That's too bad. I don't have a problem with it and it forces me to restructure my sentences which increases my writing level.

I haven't read all the replies, just wanted to jump on the GCU train! I started in Aug, am in my 3rd class there. I love it! The paper writing gets old, but what can you expect from a 5 week class?! I have 11 classes to take, so will finish in Sept of 14, much faster than my other classmates who went to the local state school!

The paper writing gets really old.:yuck: I have 4 classes left and I cannot wait. Speaking of...I need to get back to my paper (s) as next week as two of them are due on Sunday. :bag:

2?! Eek! Are you taking 2 classes, or is that just one? I;m trying to decide if I want to do the 2 classes after my next. I'm on the fence. Love the idea of finishing sooner, but that's a lot of work! Right now it's appealing because I don't work yet, but I'm praying that changes soon!

No, this is one class. I'm glad I didn't take on two classes, but I also work fulltime, have kids, and do committee stuff at work. Fitting in school is difficult with just one class.

Hi everyone, I am currently enrolled in GCU doing my 2nd class now. So far so good. Sometimes is a lot of work but I have managed to arrange my time to have the weekend off. My question is that my next class is Health Assessment, which will start Jan 6. I am planning a trip to Brazil to see my family (it has been 4 years since I don't see them). I can only go during that time as it is my husband vacation as well. I was wondering how demanding that class is? I am debating if I should be doing a class while on "vacation". I am not sure if I should take 3 weeks break or not. (i know I will loose my 10% discount) but I would rather do that than fail the class. Has anyone done that class? How hard is it?

Thanks!

Hello,

I'm finishing my 8th class with GCU and am familiar with HA. This is where it ramps up with 2 power points due on top of assessments of infant/child, young adult and older adult and a few other projects. Of course one ppt is a group project and one is yours, where you have to watch a movie and do a ppt based on that persons diagnosis. It is a pretty labor intensive class and I was glad when it was over, lol.

Ugh, that is the class I am in now! There are no papers due, but the PP and assessments, which take just as much time to complete! If it were me, I'd take the break, enjoy the vaca and then come back when you are refreshed!

Thanks everyone for the reply. I will try to take a break but in case they don't allow me (I have financial aid) I was wondering in switching that class with a easier one. What class would you recommend?

None actually because they all seem to build on each other. I took a 2 week break in between classes, so I could get this one stats professor who is really good.

Spirituality was freaking painful...just sayin'. I'm so glad it's over. Talk about paper heavy. I turned in the last two that are due on Sunday, giving me two days away before pathopsy starts. :bag:

GCU is worth the attention due to the fact you will be done and over with the program before others. They are extremely lenient when it comes to submitting assignments. I had a complicated pregnancy and was induced due to preeclampsia and they allowed me to take a break before starting another class, so that I could get back on my feet. Another thing was, my father in law passed away the day before our son was born, so needless to say I needed the time off.
