Grand Canyon RN-BSN

Published

Is there any updated information? I have been in heavy contact with them and am looking at taking their RN-BSN program. I work with a GCU grad and she has nothing but positive things to say, but I want more opinions. ?

Any pro's and cons? Thankfully the only class I'm missing is stats and that is offered in the actual BSN program. I'm a bit nervous as my algebra skills are way old. If anyone took this class, do you have any advice?

All done! Finished up the end of January. Moved back to the US on the 9th of Feb. Picked up our mail last week and diploma was there. Yea!!

Sooooooooooo I forged ahead and applied for a Masters program. Got accepted. Fly out to Kentucky tomorrow to do my orientation for Frontier Nursing University as a student in the WHNP program.

Okey, am in spirituality class, I really need help with personhood chart, I cannot find it in my assigned reading and its driving me insane. Anyone who took this difficult professor what else should we expect? I can't wait till this class is over with. someone please PM me information on this chart or where i can find information on it. Need it ASAP. pls

I can't find where I put my flash-drives, but if I remember correctly look in the syllabus or on the assignment and the attachment for the personhood chart.

Hey,

Thanks for the advice. I guess it's true, regardless my papers would be the same. I actually wasn't sure if one teacher would require less work but it doesn't seem that way from what you said. I guess my biggest fear is that I will do my best but will be graded harshly. The first class was just an intro and the teacher graded easily but I was shocked when for the second class the amount of work tripled. Ugh. Let's see how she is. Anyone ever have Shauna wise ? Good luck figuring out your assignment. I already experienced that in the first class- not being sure where to find the answers ....

So I just did this assignment last week and found it very difficult. The Christian parts I found in the book the others u have to google. It should be worth more than 10 points with the amount of work I had to put in. Pm me if you need more help. Maybe we can get through this class together :)

HI,

I would love to be part of this very supportive community. I know not a single soul who chose this university for their BSN. The second class is a lot more work than the first and the instructor seems more strict. I'm pretty sure I'm just going to plow ahead but am curious about that list of instructors that I have read about. Just wondering if I should avoid this one... I feel like it may have been easier to go sit in a classroom. Each week has a paper which takes me forever to do and all this on top or life!! Taking up much more of my time than anticipated. I was told about 5 hours per week and its about 3 hours per day at least. Help. Anyone taking class #2 right now? Can someone private message me the list? Even if I don't follow it, maybe I will have peace of mind having it. Thanks so much.

It takes some time, but you eventually find your rhythm, and you will improve your writing and complete everything faster. Most of the RN to BSN programs are geared to writing papers, and I was fortunate to have my wife as a super duper proof reader, lol My initial papers had more of her red marker crossing stuff out, and would have been quicker and less painful for her to just do everything herself, lol But I did improve (I think, lol) As She says, don't make it harder on urself, than you have to, come up with a strong opening paragraph, state ur thesis and for the rest of the paper, ur making your points about the thesis. And then a final conclusion paragraph..u will find ur rhythm!

PERRLA...generates ur citations and references..and saves them!! https://www.perrla.com/APADetails.aspx Huge time saver

make sure u look and go by the RUBRIC....most of the time everything u need is in the instructions, but that is not always the case..and the profs grade by the Rubric..and sometimes it makes it a bit more clear on what you have to accomplish.

Look over the weekly requirements early..and ask questions early..as some profs are very slow in answering questions...I had 1 prof that stated its too late to be asking questions on the weekend, lol

Start up or find a GCU facebook group.....I found it helpful.

In many cases 1 makes things too difficult on themselves....reading too much into the task at hand.....These 5 week courses can be a bit difficult as it takes some time to figure what the prof wants, and by the time you do, the course is nearly over, lol Best of luck

I wanted to echo what most people stated before me, the list of instructors were useless to me. Looking into the class before it opened is the best option because the class is set up by GCU not the instructor. They (should be) are bound by the rubric provided and are merely facilitators not instructors. Don't get me started on this, being self motivated is a function of online education. The "instructors" only maintain flow of the class and provide grades for work completed. Be aware of the instructors that state in the announcements that they will make changes to the assignments or the expectations. Avoid them like mosquitoes carrying the Zika virus.

Here are a couple thoughts about handling the coursework. I always tried to have the discussion posts done the Sunday before they were due. Then I merely had to cut and paste Monday night. Monday should be used to go through the assignment and all questions should be asked then. You may not get good responses so it gives you a few days to ask the question again. If by Friday you do not know how to complete an assignment then come here and see if there is anyone that can help provide understanding.

When completing the assignments use the rubric as a guide to complete the papers. The first paragraph is the introduction and thesis statement then each section or paragraph should follow the requirements spelled out in the rubric. Be weary of the word counts; many instructors require sticking to the minimums and maximums. Also do not wait till Sunday night at 2300 to submit the assignment to turn it in, you will not like the wait.

Paraphrase most all the information pulled from resources and limit direct quotes. This will keep the turn it in similarity scores low. Once you get the hang of it the papers will be easier to complete.

Five hours a week for the required work? Pffftttt.... Uh, no. It usually took 3 hours three nights during the week and then another 8 hours Saturday and Sunday. That is about 25 hours a week on average which I think is what is necessary. Then again I tend to overdo everything.

If I think of anything else I will let you know.

Hey peeps,

I wanted to stop in and say hello to everyone and especially to the newbie's. :)

Someone mentioned that the second class had more work than the first. I have to echo Flames or Rob. You will get your groove so don't panic yet. I was told to expect 12-15 hours of school work and I probably spent close to 20 a week. It took me until the 4th class to really feel I had my groove on. :). It is doable with FT work, kids and family. Granted, my family didn't get to do a lot of fun stuff for a year like we normally would have, but they survived. ;)

As one professor addressed her posts to us...

Charge on. :)

It's been a rough year and a half, but my wife and I finished up our BSN's through GCU with 4.0 GPA's. I'm not trying to brag, but motivate you all that have life pushing and pulling you in different directions. My wife was much more of a stud then me, she pushed out a baby during a 2 week break and kept on typing away. Keep in mind we also have 5 and 3 year old boys, including the baby. If we can do it, anyone can. I wouldn't say it's hard, but it certainly is time consuming but certainly worth it.

Of course it's time consuming lol it's a degree online or not. Here's the silver lining you get pretty good at whipping those papers out. What use to take me a day to write now takes me a couple of hours and the DQ's I can do both in less than an hour (I do them both the same day) and I do 2 replies and that leaves me one day to do my paper and 2 replies and another day of 2 quick replies. So I would say 5-7 hours a week depending on the class. Not in the beginning but about the 3rd class you'll find your rhythm. My friend is in class 2 she said the same thing lol. I have 3 weeks and 5 days left so believe me when I say you can do this there is a light at the end of the tunnel

Hi,

These posts have been inspiring. Thank you! At the end of the third week in class 2. It's still taking me forever to do my do questions and weekly papers but at least I'm doing well. Wish I could get a little faster. Working on the heritage assessment paper now. I get so sick of staring at the computer for hours on end. This class is almost over then it's health assessment. Whats this class about? I'll stop procrastinating now. That's for your input everyone.
