Grand Canyon RN-BSN

Published

Is there any updated information? I have been in heavy contact with them and am looking at taking their RN-BSN program. I work with a GCU grad and she has nothing but positive things to say, but I want more opinions. ?

Any pro's and cons? Thankfully the only class I'm missing is stats and that is offered in the actual BSN program. I'm a bit nervous as my algebra skills are way old. If anyone took this class, do you have any advice?

I enjoyed the patho class..yes the DQs were long, but I found them much enjoyable

Yup - the DQs are long for Patho but they are not hard and it is nice that there is only one DQ due per week. I, too, found the DQs to be more enjoyable because you are using your "nursing thinking" and not spewing out the usual b.s./fluff!! I took a week off and start Trends & Issues tomorrow and then Capstone.

Starting my answer for DQ 1 for Trends and looks like I am back to the b.s.! Oh well...

CONGRATS rob!!! Nice to see the BSN after your name.

I bet it feels weird to be done and to not be constantly thinking about what is due.

Hey Ro,

I recommend getting your DQ out of the way real early in the week. At times I felt the DQ was just as comprehensive as the assignment(s) due for the week.

In all of my classes I typically did all of the DQ's before the class even started, which lightens the load and if "life happens" then I have some wiggle room.

Congrats, Rob!!! What a great feeling of accomplishment!

Okey, am in spirituality class and it is more like hell. Why do some professors make a class so difficult? I imagined it would be my easiest class but so far most difficult. I really need help for my next classes. Can someone PM me a good professor for patho and trends asap? Meanwhile am left strugling with this spirituality class...........ahh

Sorry about the prof....some just have no clue on how to teach..PM sent

I'm in spirituality too :/ it is the hardest class I've done so far! My next two I'm doubling up

HI,

I would love to be part of this very supportive community. I know not a single soul who chose this university for their BSN. The second class is a lot more work than the first and the instructor seems more strict. I'm pretty sure I'm just going to plow ahead but am curious about that list of instructors that I have read about. Just wondering if I should avoid this one... I feel like it may have been easier to go sit in a classroom. Each week has a paper which takes me forever to do and all this on top or life!! Taking up much more of my time than anticipated. I was told about 5 hours per week and its about 3 hours per day at least. Help. Anyone taking class #2 right now? Can someone private message me the list? Even if I don't follow it, maybe I will have peace of mind having it. Thanks so much.

I don't remember any of my instructors, don't matter who you have the work is the same regardless. Yes its a lot of papers but that's what a BSN entails in their coursework. I remember the first few classes were dry and boring but don't worry you can get through it. Most of us work full time jobs with family commitment and are close to graduation. Well worth the sacrifice.

I wouldn't worry too much about the "infamous list of instructors." Someone sent a list to me back when I started in February 2015 and none of the instructors I have had have been on that list. Every instructor gives the same assignments so it is really just a matter of who grades more strictly or gives better clarification of assignment instructions - none of them really "teach" you anything and you are pretty much on your own. Some instructors may make some interesting posts in the discussion forums but as I said, none of them teach. In my opinion, it doesn't really matter who you get because even if they grade hard or easy, I am going to write the same paper because I hold myself to my own high standards.

The one thing I will recommend with regards to teachers is to go online a few days before the class begins and "snoop" around - read the teacher's bio and see if he/she has already posted any announcements with regards to expectations/requirements. Sometimes your intuition may tell you to avoid a certain teacher. As long as you don't post anything, you can get out of the class - just call your advisor and say you want to switch out of the class to a different instructor.

I will agree that this program is A LOT more time consuming than my recruiter made it out to be! Yes, it is very annoying to have papers, assignments, participation posts hanging over your head but once you get the hang of it, you get used to it. Keep in mind that you can take up to two weeks off between classes if you need to. Every once in a while I would take a week off based upon what was going on in my life or if I just needed a sanity break! Before you know it, you will be done. I have 2 weeks left of Trends & Issues and then onto Capstone for me and I will do one big happy dance when this is over!!

Good luck!
