Grand Canyon RN-BSN

Nursing Students Online Learning

Is there any updated information? I have been in heavy contact with them and am looking at taking their RN-BSN program. I work with a GCU grad and she has nothing but positive things to say, but I want more opinions. ?

Any pro's and cons? Thankfully the only class I'm missing is stats and that is offered in the actual BSN program. I'm a bit nervous as my algebra skills are way old. If anyone took this class, do you have any advice?

I did a pamphlet to hand out. My topic was flu prevention and I presented to an assisted living/long term care facility. I think a colorful handout with fun pictures for the kids to take home would be appropriate and not too time consuming.
This may sound stupid but I am not sure how to make a pamphlet without the class giving you a template to use. I could do an 8 X 11 handout but don't think that is allowed... maybe too easy.

Rather than a pamphlet, how about a flyer? I think they're the same thing, but pamphlet seems to me to either be multi pages or maybe tri-folded. Anyway, I did a flyer for mine (whatever it was, that's what I called it!), I did it in Word. There are a zillion templates in the Word program, none of which I like though, so I made my own on a blank Word doc and just typed/pasted cool pictures on it. It was easy to upload into the assignment dropbox, too. Maybe go to YouTube and search "how to make a flyer in Word 2010"? There's gotta be some easy tutorials out there, I luv YT :inlove:

I'm thinking they want you happy.

I would say mine was like a flyer as well. I did it on word double sided and had a local printing company print some for me on nice paper to hand out. I received 100% on it so I would guess it's acceptable.

I cheated and bought publisher, lol, so making things was easy. I'm a dork when it comes to figuring out how to get Word to do anything not APA related.

Wow, thanks for all the input. I do find that all the comment about CLC projects will be true. My first assignment and I see all these attitudes displayed already. I do want to get a good grade, but I promised myself that during my BSN I wouldn't be crazy about assignments. In nursing school I always wanted an A+++, for my BSN I will be happy with and A- and maybe every once in a while a B+.

I didn't see anywhere that there should be a team leader either. It took 3 days after groups were assigned and no one was responding to the assignment due (Sunday). I tried to organize the CLC assignment and WHAMMO! I was the leader. Looks like I am going to be the editor/proofreader and the responsible party to turn it in. I guess it is okay, I have an ace up my sleeve. My wife is a grade school teacher and proof reads all my papers for grammatical errors. Can't help with content though.

I don't mind doing the extra work because it really doesn't take that long. I just learned that if you sit down and do it, it goes quickly. Then I have time for the family or to watch baseball....

Again, I would like to thank everyone for the help.

If you are the proofer, you will be good. There will be times that you will have to do the lions share, because there are those that do such a poor job, you are forced to correct large portions or risk a very bad grade!

This made me laugh! The same thing happened (happens) to me, it's like everyone got the memo but me - the memo that says, "just lay low... don't say anything...be vewy vewy qwiet...and eventually someone will say something...but whatever you do, don't be the first one to post in there!" :roflmao: When I was new at this I actually thought maybe I had the wrong date or something, and I scoured the assignments thinking I must have missed something, because no way would 5 other people not be doing what they need to do, it must be me?". I even emailed the instructor asking if some of my team had dropped the class? :rotfl:

I agree with tokmom, proofing and turning in are probably the two most important tasks anyway, and something we're good at, so if you can get past the drama, it's all good.

OH - and since this will be your first assignment with more than one thing due (the completed CLC agreement and the final project), take note of all of our experiences here and make sure you do it right - Make sure you ask instructor if both things need to be attached in the assignment dropbox, OR if one of them goes there and the other gets posted in the Team or Individual Forum. Sometimes they want them in different places because only certain things go through Turnitin (Word docs). But if they want them both in the assignment dropbox, like the CLC agreement and the PowerPoint - BROWSE TWICE WITHIN THE SAME SUBMISSION - don't be fooled by that little "New Attempt" button, it doesn't work! Attach TWO/BOTH documents within the same one - browse twice I say! :)

Thanks PrismRN, I will remember to make sure how everything must be turned in. First deadline passed, I handed in the assignment (CLC Agreement) and no one stepped up to help put the information into the final power point. I didn't expect different, just sad that it is this way. Are these nurses that just keep their patients alive during their shift or do they go the extra mile to implement the care plans, interventions? Don't answer that....

On a side note, I posted a question to the instructor. "Who is the intended target audience for the power point presentation? Is it a nursing student or is the information for the general public about the nurse field?"

Response: " I will be the only one viewing the assignment."

Didn't answer the question, in my opinion.

I am getting a bad feeling about this. Seemed like a valid and reasonable question.

They are the nurses that do the least for their patients, IMO. Hopefully, you will have some positive CLC assignments. My first one was stressful and I had some that were borderline, but for the most part everyone attempted to pull their weight.

Assignment: It is for the instructor. Write this stuff like you would be presenting it front of a class. If it is for the public or managers, as future projects will ask of you, they will say in the syllabus or announcements.

Do...not...over...think...the...assignment. ;)

Concerned everyone will always step back, I will be the workhorse... I do that in my own job... Can not do that also with school.

Rob:

100% correct, staying ahead of the game is KEY. Not always possible with work and life in general, but yes, always strive for that. I need to revamp my attitude and get back to that, as lately I have become burned out and find myself writing my DQs at 2330 on Wed & Fri nights... BTW, I agree with although you plan on writing your papers in advance, saving them for the weekend to actually turn in. The times I ever did turn something in early (say Wed or Thurs), invariably someone would ask a question to the instructor later in the week that I thought, "Doh!" and it was too late to adjust my assignment `cause I'd already turned it in. Not sure I'd wait `til Sunday (you never know if TII or LC will be busted or down on Sundays, it's a high-traffic day for students), shoot for Fri/Sat maybe.

Ahhh, the CLCs. Thorn in my side, for sure. Yes, you will learn things about people you wish you never knew (selfish, undependable, defensive, lethargic, rude). Sorry, but that's been my experience. Only one class out of the 8 so far have I had a CLC where all members were energetic and invested in the project and their teammates. All the others were me poking, prodding, tempted to post things like, "Helloooooo?? Anybody???" The interesting thing about CLCs is that nowhere nowhere nowhere does it say that there should be a "leader". There's no spot for it on the CLC Agreement, it's not in the assignment description, nowhere. But yet, somehow people always want to point to someone to be responsible and lead the group, which translates to "Whatever you decide is fine with me, I'm not invested in this, I just wanna do my little piece and be done with you people. Hope we get a good grade but if we don't, oh well, don't really care".

Good news to look forward to: There is no text/e-book for Stats or Spirituality. Yay!

This happens to me when I'm using IE. When in Chrome, it doesn't happen.

See above, LOL. I guess it depends on your end-game - are you a "passer" or a "striver"? Do you want a 4.0 or is that not really important to you? Those that want to do their personal best and treat each assignment as a challenge with something valuable to learn tend to choose to "lead" the CLCs. Those that don't, turn in the minimum and move on to the next class. Decide now if you want them to turn out great - if so, just accept the fact that you will be doing the majority of the work and that you will be taken advantage of. Be sure to be active in the color forum, be clear and direct, because if/when you find yourself in a situation with your group, the first thing the Instructor will ask is "what does your CLC agreement say?" and "did you address this is the forum?" I'm sorry I'm sour, I hope you have a different experience!

Oh, and once the CLC grade is returned, resist the temptation to send out texts to your teammates that say, "You're Welcome".

okay, maybe I need therapy :grn:

Therapy PrismRN, therapy...and I am next in line behind you. :cheeky:
