Grand Canyon RN-BSN

Nursing Students Online Learning

Is there any updated information? I have been in heavy contact with them and am looking at taking their RN-BSN program. I work with a GCU grad and she has nothing but positive things to say, but I want more opinions. ?

Any pro's and cons? Thankfully the only class I'm missing is stats and that is offered in the actual BSN program. I'm a bit nervous as my algebra skills are way old. If anyone took this class, do you have any advice?

Hello everyone! I recently have been in contact with GCU and am seriously considering their RN-BSN program. The local colleges have a whole slew of pre-reqs that would take me an additional 1 1/2 to even apply and I work full time. My goal is to travel within the next two years and I'd like to have my bachelors degree before I do this. I currently get 5,500 a year for tuition through my job. My question is to anyone who is completing the program or has completed already. Did anyone give you any issues about going to GCU? If I decide to pursue a master degree or NP school at a state university, will I run into any issues? It's costly, but I plan on paying as I go and utilizing the tuition reimbursement as I go. Any advice is appreciated.

No, not in the real world. Only on AN do I get crap. Some on here can't get over the "for-profit" thing which is crazy in my opinion. is non profit but nobody bats an eye when a person can finish a class in 1 day (no joke) or a week. GCU has a real campus with real dorms, sports teams etc. and that was important to me, because I wanted a real college. One idiot on AN thinks the university sits IN the Grand Canyon.

Everything I learned at GCU has behooved me greatly in my nursing career. Once I obtained my degree, I had a few job offers within my organizations 8 hospitals. So for me, I would have to say the answer is NO. A BSN is a BSN.

You don't even want to get me started on my kids' state college education, cost and silliness.

Wow, doubled up on the remainder? I'm impressed, lol.

Me too. I thought of doing that but was afraid of loosing my 4.0 gpa since I work 3-12hrs shift.

That's my schedule too. My problem is speed. I don't type or edit quickly.

I just finished stats and have an issue.....the last workbook assignment had 2 exercises and when I attached them it submit I mistakenly attached separately. So when I submitted I was only able to submit one exercise. I immediately sent an individual message to the instructor and attached the second exercise so she would know I completed it and asked her to reassign the assignment if she preferred them submitted together. I did all this Sunday afternoon Illinois time. She gave me half credit for the assignment and when I emailed her to make sure she received my individual message she replied that despite the missing assignment "I was victorious" and the final grades were submitted. I ended up with an A- for the class but I am fuming that I didn't get any credit for the "missing assignment" that I submitted before it was due and communicated my mistake to her which she has ignored. Any suggestions on if I should let it go or contact my advisor?

Well I talked to my advisor and he was surprised that I received a zero on the assignment. He said I can appeal the grade but that since the final grades were posted and the class is closed that it is a lengthy process and typically it is denied. I have had multiple conversations with others who have taken online programs and the general feelings are that I was totally robbed of a better grade, but pursuing an appeal could haunt me in the long run. Many had experiences where they had the same instructor for multiple classes and had instructors indicate they communicated with other instructors. Since the majority of our work is subjective in grading, the worry is that I could be critiqued a bit more than normal if instructors know I "stirred the pot". I haven't made any final decisions yet on what to do. If I earned an A- that would be fine, but I really feel like I earned an A. At the same time, being only (almost) halfway through the program I am not sure the 40 points is worth the stress of wondering if the instructor "knows my name" for the next 7 classes, or that it would make that much of an impact on my GPA. The fact that my advisor isn't sure I would even get the points makes me lean towards moving on and focusing on the next 7 classes...oh, and making sure I attach everything together in the future! :/

Guess it isn't worth it, but it still stinks.

Given a few issues with my admission situation, I fear I have become labeled as one who is "trouble". It is making me hesitant to move forward. I would not make a fuss, as unfair as it is.

We have sports teams????? Go LOPES!

Feel like a kid again!

Added: maybe have some fun hand soap, for the kids to use, like those crayon soaps that are colored?

I like that idea of the hand soap! So this whole time, I didn't realize, I had to do a poster, pamphlet or pp to present the kids on top of just being interactive with them. I know I have a paper to present my teaching plan to the facility and I have a paper to write to describe my teaching experience. OVERWHELMED. I may not do the little kids if I have to do powerpoint. I would do the poster board but not sure what to put on it. I will be glad when this class is OVER..so I can stress about the next :grumpy:

First week of class almost completed, not too bad I think. I wanted to post some observations in hopes that people would give me their feedback.

Overall I believe that staying ahead of the game is key to balancing GCU with other obligations. I think staying a week ahead is important. I will finish my first paper this Monday to be submitted next Sunday. The next weeks DQ will be written on Sunday to post Monday.

The group projects will be a bear. I am finding that everyone doesn’t respond in a timely manner. Many do but there are a few that do not. I stepped up to be the leader in the CLC assignment which I hope wasn’t a mistake.

The reading isn’t a major problem. The chapters in the books are 10 to 20 pages long and the supplemental articles are fairly short. Like I said before, staying ahead of the game is important.

Feedback from the instructor is real minimal. She likes to post additional DQ but does not respond to the discussions at all. Some discussion would be good. As long as I have my 8 posts over three days, so be it. I find myself on the portal every day anyway.

The text editor on the portal sucks. If you cut and paste from Word it is always formatted weird. Suggestions?

Does anyone have suggestions on how to deal with group projects?

I did a pamphlet to hand out. My topic was flu prevention and I presented to an assisted living/long term care facility. I think a colorful handout with fun pictures for the kids to take home would be appropriate and not too time consuming.
